Liver pain while running (srs)

Just got done doing a 5.1 miler. Didn't record my time but it was under 40. My right side (liver?) was hurting like ****.

Got me wondering what exactly causes side pain while running. My first guess is lack of hydration because I only drank 1 pint of water so far today and have been up for 12 hours... lmfao.

You are breathing wrong.

Breathe out when you are on your left leg stride. The compression of the liver when breathing on your right stride is the cause of the pain.

You learn something new everyday.

I've been doing that for years. I do it subconsciously now. When my side started hurting I started paying attention to my breathing and it was fine.

brah, its called Side Pains.
When you push hard they happen usually just on one side. Google it. 100% normal, do not worry one bit.

Just google Side Pains when running or something along those lines.

Cramp I'm guessing.

Never heard of liver failure while running.

it's not a cramp, its a stitch
"Most of us experience them at one time or another. That sharp twinge of pain just below the rib cage usually on the right. It is particularly common in runners and has been known to slow some down to a walk until the pain subsides."

Stopping a Side Stitch
To stop a side stitch when running, stop running and place your hand into the right side of your belly and push up, lifting the liver slightly. Inhale and exhale evenly as you push up.

Preventing a Side Stitch
To prevent a side stitch, take even, deep breaths while running.
Time your eating.
Breathe deep to stretch the diaphragm.
Massage or press on the area with pain. Bend forward to stretch the diaphragm and ease the pain.

This is what to do when you get them. Start taking massive deep and quick breaths, and drink some water.
