Once you have fully recoverd it'll just be a mental game. Getting back to the state you were before and that. You know you can do it and you will get there with a tough mental state.

Hey bro, my name's Marc and I know I don't know you from a hole in the ground and I live a country away but I've also just passed my 21st birthday and just by reading your 1st post I can tell you have the capacity to easily get back to where you were before. Stay positive and concentrate on recovery. Who care's if it takes a year, you have how many more to go? Like seriously. When the time is right build yourself back up bigger and better. One day at a time. Stay strong MSB and keep your chin up.

Thank you for all the support guys, it means a lot, I have a follow up with the neurosurgeon tomorrow and I'll find out where my brains at. Overall I'm feeling a little bit better physically. I actually tried doing some light exercising, which wasn't such a good idea, just seemed to set me back. I'm just trying to deal with it mentally, and stay as sane as I can without getting upset or angry. I'm starting to cope with the idea that it's going to be a slow process and I need to stay calm. Again thanks to everyone who took the time to post in here. I'll keep you guys updated and can't wait until I get well enough to get my workout log up here!

wow, I just saw MTV's true life (I'm rehabbing my injury). Didn't catch the beginning but from the looks of it this 17 kid broke his back or neck and has been in a wheel chair for over 4 months, practically paralyzed, no use of legs, little use of arms and hands, doctors don't know if he'll even ever walk again. It makes me feel very fortunate that I'm in the condition I'm in. It makes you realize how lucky you are and that things can always be worse.

i dunno if it helps, but i dont think you can really be too messed up. your typing is fine, you are using technical jargon with ease, you seem to have a very strong hold on your grammar. i got my ass beat in high school and went to the hospital for CAT scans and such. i was pretty much fine, but for a week or two after, when i was writing things, i would sometimes write the same word twice and not notice. i also questioned my spelling a bit more. i didnt think it was a good sign, but it went away quickly. that was like 7 years ago, and ive had no problems since. i think the thing that mostly sucks is you cant lift (for the moment), you're probably bored alot bc of bedrest, and the oxy is certainly going to slow you down alot. just keep your eye on the ball and this will be put in the past.

dont get hooked on the oxy.

just wanted to post that I'm feeling much better. I'v started working out again, and am hitting the gym almost normally. Still lifting light but I feel great, and the headaches are much less frequently. It's been 2 months since the injury, and im grateful for making such a quick recovery. I'v still got a little ways to go, but I am feeling 1000 times better.
Thanks to everybody who posted in here. It made me feel a lot better when I was down.

Glad you are recovering so well!

I had a friend who got hit in the head, not nearly as bad as you did, but it took him a few months to feel normal again. He was constantly lightheaded and nauseous.

That's awesome you feel so much better already! I am sure the muscle you lost will come back really fast since you know what you did to put it on, and your body does too.

I credit this site for all my gains, being the strongest of my friends, even banging the girls I have. Im writing this because this site got me started, MAYBE it can help me through a tough time.
It's amazing how hard and long you can work to achieve a good lifestyle and how it can be twisted upside down in less than 30 days.
Well here's whats happened to me.. training was the number 1 thing in my life, but I'v always partied hard and drank excessively. A month ago I woke up in the hospital with a traumatic brain injury (TBI). Apparently I was struck in the back of head in NYC(nobody knows what with), and was left in a pretty much incoherent state. I was in ICU for 4 days, and narrowly escaped brain surgery. For the last month I'v been in bed about 75% of the time.
I have returned to my normal mental state except for a constant splitting headache, ringing ears, loss of memory, and dizziness. I haven't worked in a month, haven't gotten pussy in a month, haven't went out in a month, haven't picked up a weight in a month. I'v lost 20 pounds and look and feel like ****.. I take Oxycontin everyday for the pain, and it's destroying me physically and mentally.
Well today was my 21st birthday and I can't really do anything. I had to cancel my Vegas plans, and cant even leave the house for more than a few hours without getting sick.
I don't know why I'm even writing this being that none of you know me or probably don't care, but If you saw me 30 days ago and saw me today I don't think many of you would pick up a drink again.. I don't know when I'll feel better, or if I'll ever recover, and just wish I could rewind 30 days of my life. The most depressing thing is watching myself deteriorate in the mirror, and knowing I cant do a damn thing about it, and for the first time in my life have no motivation to. Any words of wisdom are appreciated.
THANKS to anyone that took the time to read this, being that it took me about an hour to write, because my brain is working slow as ****.
I would be piss off if I had this happen to me. I would think this would make me want to workout harder. I got hit over the head a few times by these two young guys who jumped me and try to beat me up after coming out of the bar at night. This is why the hell I workout and it drives me every freakin day I workout. I always think of what happen. That's my motivation to workout.
I stopped working out for about 3 months before, and right now I haven't worked out for almost 2 months. I know how quickly I can build my self up when I start to workout again. I usually lift very little the first week then go at it the second week.

I don't know what else to say other then don't stop.
I was 108lbs 2 months before I worked out. That's another story. And I spent way more then 30days inside.
So you're not the only one.
Its just that pain you're feeling now that will slow you down.
As much as I love the internet and computers and radio scanners:-) Workingout is my favorite!
There's no other man on this earth that will make me quit.

i never wrote a msg on this forum before, i'm usually just reading. after hearing what your going threw i gota say something.

what happen to you is ****ed.

all i can give is how i try and deal with pain/anger/life

i use pain/anger to push to achieve my goals. if something or someone gets in the way and trys to stop me i may stall for a bit, but that only makes me more
angry and eventually i'll be angry/hurt enough to push past it/them. anger = strength. pain = strength. channeling negative energy (pain/anger) into a positive life is the only way i survive.

i listen to positive music. it gets me so sykd that i feel i can lift the world. take what ever style you like, it doesn't matter as long as your getting that feeling.
music has gotten me off the floor so many times i owe my life to it.

i don't take any type of drugs. i'm not suggesting you should stop or anything, just have a look at what ever they've got you on and make sure its something you want to be
taking. being sober is pain in its self, every time something happens there's no hiding from it, no buffer. you learn to deal with your physical/emotional problems with
your heart instead of covering them up with some drug (that sounded mega hippy style, what i mean by 'heart' is when you hit your self in the chest and feel strength run
threw your whole body. **** that sounded even more hippy. i just mean your inner strength.) i would rather be aware of my pain fully, gauge where to go from there rather
then be numb have a false hope of strength. again i'm just saying what works for me, not saying that you should stop takeing drugs.

this next one mite sound like bull****. but i'll say it anyway. believing in your self/goal is pretty much the most important thing. if you tell your self you cannot do
something then i'm pretty sure you won't be able to do it. if your head hurts like **** and you are loosing all your weight and laying around with no motivation and
saying that you can't find the motivation to lift because of all this pain. then you can't lift. you'll keep loosing weight and the motivation will never come... what you say is even tho my head is ****ed and i've lost weight, i'm still going to lift the hardest i possibly can and eat the best food i can buy to grow stronger. its all in your head bro! we can't do anything unless we believe we can... if at the start you are saying it and not believing it that's ok. just repeating to your self that you can lift, that you can gain back the life you had/want will help. you got nothing to loose by trying

i'm sure you know what it feeling like to go until failure (physical) its a feeling i've only recently understood. i tried to get into lifting many times over the years
and it just never stuck. i wasn't angry enough, or strong enough (mentally). about 4 months ago i tried again, this time something was different... i went past the point
where my mind told my body to stop, not just a little bit past like 10 reps past. i don't know what the **** i was doing before but once i understood this pain everything
clicked into place. i see so many posts with people saying "i've been lifting for like a year and don't look/feel any different what am i doing wrong?" what there doing
wrong is what i was doing wrong and what your doing wrong right now... not trying... you have to try as hard as you do when you go to/past failure. not in your lifts but in your life. everything you do gets blocked by your mind, its saying "nah just watch another TV episode, eat some more snack food and chill on the couch, you already have
enough pain don't go looking for more by lifting weights". that's when you gota remember how to go to failure. switch that s*** in your head off and ****en TRY!!! its the
difference between living the way you are and living the way we all want to. making the most out of every single day we live. dying with regrets of not trying
is my biggest fear. i try to put my heart into everything i do, if i fail i try again and again and again. drag my self fist over fist to the goals i set.

at 21 your going to have to pull pretty ****en hard to overcome this. its not going to be easy by any means. one thing that will happen tho is when you do overcome this,
you'll be a man, not like in a go out and pump chicks, balls dropped, beat up another dude kinda man. more like you will be a really powerful, wise human. you'll have experienced something that not many people ever will, and if you channel this into positivity then you'll become a really amazing person.

keep us up to date on how your feeling.

i'll lift some extra weight for you this week!

Hi,

Just like everyone, just want to echoe my support for your recovery. Our boy takes time to heal, we tend to want it everything now as our culture trains us this way. But give it time, stay positive and make sure your internal dialogue is top notch. The positive thoughts will help you walk out of this.

Nice to see your in the gym taking baby steps! You will be stronger and better because you got up from this fall. All the best and keep us informed of your progress.

Mike

Glad to hear you are recovering quickly dude. Just let it be a life lesson as to what led you to that situation. I'm willing to bet you will be back up to your original weight in no time. Without all the excessive drinking you should have a easier time just living life also. There is another thread on here http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showth...hp?t=119869651 really good for showing how much your attitude determines what happens in your life.

I had to give up smoking herb (ended up being good anyways it had started to cause anxiety). I would get very unmotivated and just smoke instead of going to the gym. The entire 3 1/2 years I smoked I never stayed in the gym over 3 months straight. It was pathetic. Without it I have found a new drive I didn't know I had and can proudly say I have been back at it for 6 months straight.

You are alive and that is the greatest accomplishment you will ever have in your life, I'm sure of it. People like you, that have knocked on that door but have lived to talk about it are a tremendous inspiration to me. I have never been in any situation like that myself but seeing that this can happen and you can still live another day makes me optomistic. And not just about any one thing in particular. Just optomistic about life and enjoying all it has to offer.

You are an inspiration...

You will come back stronger then ever. Use this time to focus on what you REALLY want and how you can accomplish it. After this nothing will be able to break your spirit, rally now and you will be a soldier for the rest of your life.

You must give yourself time to recover ,don't think & worry about it so much ! YOU CAN DO IT! It's all a mental game. Look at Nick Scott, he needed time to recover from that accident in 98 and he recovered! He was doubted, and look at him now!DON,T EVER GIVE UP ON YOUR DREAM! If it's your dream and your passion you CAN get back to where you were before.Mentally you can overcome it, but let your body heal physically first!

You have the choice to be a fighter or not. This is probably the first real life test you've had. I've been fortunate not to have a major one yet and hopefully never do.

Be grateful that of your previous years and grateful of the next 80 to come. And make the next 80 better than the last 21.

Good luck man. It could be worse. You'll be better with time. Just be patient?
