How sore am I suppose to be?
- I'm new to bodybuilding
- I'm working on Rippetoe's, second workout of the week
- I went to the gym, I stretched for 15 mins.
Then I hit the squat rack. I warmed up with the squats. Then I did my sets. On my very, very last set of 5 x 3. I got so tired that the squat bar went all the way down..and the squat rack safed my life.
The first two sets were easy. On the last set rep 1 to 4 was easy..but rep 5...almost died.
I was so tired, I felt some burn. Now that I'm home, 2 -3 hours later. I don't really feel a burn. And to be honest I don't feel sore. I just feel...I don't know...not sore..anymore..but weak.
Will I feel this pain tomorrow. How sore am I suppose to be?
The same thing happend when I did the bench press. After my sets. My chest felt all tight. I could see it through my shirt. But I don't feel any more pain..at all. But when I go do the same sets again (remember I have no pain) I can't lift them.

you will be sore the next day....If you have a good diet you will rarely be sore. Get on some creatine and it will help. I am not sore like I was when I started out, I never get sore any more. I have some good gains for 50 days of lifting for not being sore and full body work outs. You just have to know when to call it quits in the gym.

Oh okay. Maybe my diet is on point...because. It is now the morning and I don't feel so sore at all. It's weird.
I was doing the squats and bench press...I was about to die..could not lift any more. Sore JUST RIGHT after the last sets. After the workout drank a protein shake. An hour later ate my meal. Hour later..soreness is gone.
I'm thinking that it will come as DOMS...but this morning I don't feel sore at all. from yesterday's workout. The most soreness I felt was like weak. I was not sore. But I was just to week to lift more.

If you did rippetoes to failure like it sounds like you did, that's all you need to do.
Being sore isn't an indicator of either muscle or strength increases.
@Gold_Adapter.
Wtf? Having a good diet doesn't mean you won't be sore...

Oh okay. Just making sure. Becuase I kill myself in the gym I struggle to walk up stairs..but then an hour later the pain is gone? It was akward to me. Had to ask..was I killing myself right.
lol same with my abs. I was working that core. I felt the burn so bad (I wanted to cry)...than an hour later it's gone. I remember one workout I barely could lift a the bar..the next workout bar was mad easy.
I'm like "wtf should I have pain for tommorrow."
But thanks I'll remember that.

yh i have had it a good few times but i think its more related to strength building rather than endurance or mass gaining.
my body pump class is more endurance and im fuked for a few days while in the gym when i strength train(cus im still a huge noob) i feel sore for a few hours and then the pain is replaced with stiffness, not sore, just harder to move.
is that what you feel?

I remember my first leg day when I first started working out. My legs didn't stop hurting completely for like three weeks haha. But yeah your gonna be sore like crazy in your legs. By what youve said about squats and how you did the sets until failure, you're going to hurt and you'll have to waddle everywhere haha. Don't take this as bad news because everyone has those days. Just learn from it. Whenever I take a huge break from working out I try not to hit any of the muscle groups really hard the first or second week. I get them used to the movement and then I hit them without remorse =] I hope this helps.

It varies for everyone. Some people get bad DOMS, some not. For me, if I put 100% into my work-out (pushing yourself at the last reps, getting the last rep without giving up), I DO get DOMS. If not, no pain no nothing.

That's the main reason MANY people don't squat, because it TAXES YOUR CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM. It's not getting sored, it's called getting "taxed" or putting pressure in your central nervous system. After a heavy squat session, that's the way you should be feeling. Also check that you don't have any blood pressure problems, or heart problems, anxiety issues because along with squats, they are not your friend.
Squats and Deadlifts are the most taxing exercises ever invented. As you get used to this, it will get easier. Just remember to eat and don't rely on protein shakes, eat real food and eat like a mad cow. You will be a fawking beast when you can squat 300-500 pounds.

Your diet can be perfect and have lifted for years and still get extremely sore the days after lifting. Almost every time I lift I get sore the day or two after.

Just because you have a "good" diet doesn't mean you won't be sore.
People usually get sore when they first start lifting or when they change their workouts.
