Wow...that is impressive! You meant pull-ups and not chin-ups, right? I haven't even tackled pull-ups yet. Although, today I had a PR at 5 chins!! ) On my way to 10 by 2010!

Yes~ I did mean pullups. I have to get a bench to get me up to the pull up bars on the cable cross overs because I"m so short
Thank you all for the compliments!! I have been working my butt off in the gym and it's finally starting to pay off. Problem is~ I never wanna leave
8 months ago when I started lifting...I cound't do a single pull up. Keep at it every week and you will get there!!

Best of luck! I'm stuck at 5 unassisted pull ups...I can do around 7 chinups. I'm hoping to hit 10 on each by the New Years.

Excellent!
I struggled to do one last March. Now I am up to 5-6 myself. I can do that set, rest a bit go back and do it again 2-3 more times but breaking that 5-6 hump is HARD!!!!!
I chuckled reading this thread because I am short too and have to drag equipment all over the gym to be able get up on the bar. I think we should get a 2 pull-up credit for having to move furniture before our work outs.
I don't do any assisted, maybe I should get some one to push me a few at the end.

I was stuck at that 5-6 mark for so long too. What I found that worked was doing negatives. I go to the smith machine and place the bar in the highest position. I then pull myself up and hold on for at least 30 seconds and then slowly lower myself. I do this several times.
I also hold my pull-ups in the up position when I do them. Then lower.
Believe it or not, I actually look forward to doing them.
Keep at it and you WILL break that plateu.

Cool, you must have really developed lats! And forearms too! I like pull ups too, though I mostly do chins cos I want my biceps to grow more. I can get 9 really wide grip pull ups - you know the kind, with your arms way out to the side so that your lats take all the weight. I don't enjoy very wide grip pull ups though even though they build superior lats, I prefer weighted chins. I do enjoy close grip pull ups though - they are easier and also build superior forearm definition and burn. God though, wide grip pull ups make my lats are about to rip open.

I meant to say 'make my lats FEEL like they are about to rip open'.
Oh yeah and good luck I forgot to say! I'm sure you'll get it.
I'm now checking out your profile to check out your must be impressive lats and forearms!

That is awesome Mommalu!
I too, started weight training 8 months ago and just tried doing pull-ups for the first time 3 weeks ago...I'm up to 6, going for 10. Last week I started doing hanging legs raises, which I LOVE doing and that should increase my lat strenght as well.

Good for you, that is awesome! Good luck.
A couple years ago I could do a couple chins, but not even one pull-up. After I'd been working out for a while, I tried pull-ups again and was able to eek out 2 or 3 (a year ago). I work out from home and finally bought a pull-up bar a couple months ago. When I first got it I could do 5 or 6 consecutive pull-ups and I'm now already up to 10 or so consecutive (aiming for 15 before I add weight). I alternate between close-grip and really wide-grip pull-ups and I'm not better at one over the other. I always start from a dead hang and make sure to lower myself completely before going back up. No momentum. Believe it or not, I'm actually better now at pull-ups than I am at chin-ups. Most people are better at chins, but that isn't the case with me.
I love pull-ups because they're challenging (and because I never thought I'd be able to do them).
^^music lover- I started doing hanging leg raises after I got my pull up bar. I love those as well!

While this is VERY impressive, it gives me hope since you were using a neutral grip. For some reason, in my mind after reading the OP, I thought you were using a pronated grip (palms facing forward) and I thought...WOW! I will NEVER be able to do that. I still think WOW, but after I reach my 10 chin-ups (I'm up to 5), these will be my next goal.
Thanks so much for the inspiration!

To me, it looks like her palms are facing eachother.
And truth be told, I've always been a little chicken to try palms forward, but you've talked me into at least trying!

I can't tell which way her hands are...lol...I can do an equal number of chin ups vs pull ups now...I could only ever do 1 of each all throughout middle/high school, but now I'm pushing 10. I'm hoping to get there by New Years.
