Smile The transformation

Hi all!! My name is Danielle and I livein NW Ohio. I am in training for the WOmens Tri Fitness in Las Vegas this July. I have been a member of body space for a long time. I wasn't consistent with my workouts until last fall when I hooked up with my trainer. I worked out with a trainer for many many years, but I never had a goal and was never really focused. I basically went just because I didn't know my way around a gym and after teaching all day it was nice to have someone tell me what to do. Then 2 years ago my trainer left, sold the gym and I ended up in limbo. I couldn't find another trainer. Everyone around here was booked and had no room for more clients...so I waited patiently to find someone and tried to workout on my own which is when I started on bodyspace hoping to find direction on my own. Then in October I found my current trainer by tracking down her studio. SHe does not train in a gym but in her own room which is really nice and private. I went for my evaluation and to get measured. That is when she told me I should train for a competition. My initial reaction was "what is that?" then I started laughing. I am very atheltic and competitive but never imagined I could be fit enough for someone to judge me. I told her if she could get me looking like model/magazine material then i would consider it. Well, we all know trainers like to be challenged. That is where my story begins. I have come a long way since that cold fall afternoon and I have never looked so good. Ihave a lon g way to go and most of the women I am sure look better than me but as a personal goal I look great! SO, my trainer won and I am now on my way in Vegas in July. We are 13 weeks out and I bought my tickets yesterday. SO there is no turning back now. My workouts are extremely intense. I do not use machines other than a pulley for arms. It is all free weight training, plyometrics and suspension training. I do many workouts outside at a local park for the obstacles. My diet is very structured with some cheat meals allowed up until this week. SO no more Coldstone for me! I have found out a lot about my body since I have started this journey. Salt really affects me bad. I blow up and am literally exhausted the day after until I get it out of my system. My eyes are heavy and tons of water weight.

Well, that is all for now..hope i didn't go on too much! I hope to make some new friends and motivation partners here!!!!
Until next time!
Danielle

Hi and welcome! Starting a journal is great. I'll be following along.

Congrats on your achievements already. Remember, a great trainer can't get much accomplished without a willing trainee. While they certainly can help a great deal, ultimately you've got to have the dedication and self discipline to follow through. Good job

I've always thought that tri-fitness looked like it could be fun, so I'll enjoy seeing how things go for you. Best of luck to you

thanks!

Thanks for the motivation! Yesterday I practiced my box jumps, abs and bench presses. I need to steadily increase my bench press weight to 165 x 50. from 150. i am struggling with weight right now. i was down to 114 but last week I added creatine and glutmine and incresaed my protein and now my weight is up 3 lbs. I also cheated a little bit so i haven't been able to pin point the reason for my weight gain...i am taking gnc brand for glut...and creatine. My protein is EAS, but I have been using that since i started working out so i know it is not that. I take 13 vitmins a day as i always have too. It's a puzzle.

thanks for following! any suggestions from anyone who has had this problem would be welcome.

I'm going to nearly guarantee that the creatine is responsible for the weight gain. It's not a bad thing though. It is simply keeping more water in your muscles making them fuller. Some people report a "puffy" or bloated feeling when using creatine. Just make sure you are drinking lots of water. Don't get hung up on that scale. Water weight can fluctuate big time and has nothing to do with whether or not you are losing bodyfat. Plus, if you are adding lean mass (which will help in increasing metabolism and buring fat) your weight is likely to go up some. I'd suggest a monthly weigh in. But measure your success by taking measurements or pictures. It's a much better gauge.

I agree with MM - the creatine is probably the culprit!!

I've decided to step away from the scale and rely on measurements...I recommend the same to you! A few treats shouldn't cause a 3 lb increase and even if it did it would be mostly water weight as well...

I hope you've had a great weekend!

Thanks!

Thank you all for the suggestions and advice. Unfortunately my routine with my trainer is to weigh myself before and after my workouts... but I will not put any stock in this number. I think she does this to make sure I am not way out of whack.

I had a hard full body workout yesterday along with my dance practice. I am prety sore today and tight. I went running 3 miles with a friend and stretched.

I have another trainer workout tomorrow...I am not sure if I ever listed my diet..

breakfast I have oatmeal with a scoop of protein and 4 egg whites
lunch and dinner I have baked/grilled chicken with 1/2 potato, and green vegtable. For my snacks I eat either an orange or an apple between meals.

I drink a scoop of protein in water with creatine/glutamine scoop before and after my workout
Then before bed I have 4 more egg whites.

I also take 13 vitamins a day...vita c, dhea, vita e, vita a, l cartine, b complex, cq10, zinc, calcium, b12, I forget the other ones..

trainer diet

I am following the diet my trainer gave me. I used it initially for weight loss and now I am trying to maintain to build a little more muscle. I then plan to go down 5 more lbs to 109/110.

don't want to question your trainers judgement, but having you on such low cals as for a cutting type comp diet and on such a crazy heavy duty training schedule, especially with the intensity and frequency, seems totally counter-intuitive to me

Isn't the point of the Tri-Fitness comp strength and speed as opposed to physique judging???

not sure

My trainer has taken girls to this before so I am going to trust her for now. I see what you are saying though. I do not know much about weight training that is why I have a trainer...the tri fitness is mainly strength and agility, there is also a stage competition and dance routine.

Thanks!

home sweet home

Tylenol sinus was my friend last night! I am home from work today...I have a head cold..normally it is no big deal and I would just keep on going, but I never have been training for a contest nor have I been so dedicated to a goal so I decided to pamper myself and take the day to recoup so one day doesn't turn into 2-5...and my legs have been really sore lately so I thought one day might be good for recovery. As I said earlier I am new to all of this so my lingo isn't quite right. I have been trying to read other womens journals to understand what people mean by "bloat" and other terms. I am still highly confused. I do understand I am 2 lbs heavier due to the creatine...has anyone found a creatine that didn;t cause weight gain or is this a good thing. My trainer measured me the other night and I have lost inches everywhere again. I will get my stats tomorrow night and update them on my profile> She did tell me she wants me to stay at my current weight to get thicker in my arms and shoulders. She thinks I am getting too small there. My abs and lower back area is still carying my body fat. I can't seem to shake that at all. She plans on keeping me on my same diet. SHe added a steak last week for 1 meal only and really pushed the 8 egg whites a day... Since I am so clueless I just shake myhead and say ok uhhuh ok...She has tons of experience with this and was a power lifter for a long time.. I have been craving salt so bad this week..

Until next time!!!!

saturday

What a beautiful day here in northeast ohio. Too bad I am still stuffed up!!! I can't smell anything ugh! I did workout yesterday . I threw a steak into my diet last night just for the night and took out a half a potoato in place of a salad. I had a hard workout last night. My legs are sore today. Today I am just going to do bench's (my goal is to do 50 reps with 50 lbs.) and box jumps (i just want to get through these and do as many as i can do) and go running.

I updated my stats on my bodyspace. NO new pics yet. I plan on taking some next week. I am in the process of bulking a little to get stronger since with my weight loss I am losing muscle size. SO maybe my next measuring I will increase size in muscle areas and be at a good weight.
Have a great day!

Todays workout!

Today was another beautiful day in Northeast Ohio! What is up with that! It is never this nice in Ohio only in July but even then it is 90 degrees and too hot to enjoy it! Anywho... We ran to the park with 8lb weights and lunged up and down the stairs and hills. We then did tri dips and then leg dips ... practiced our monkey bars then did pull ups and puch ups... then we ran back to the studio with our weights jogging doing bicep curls, shoulder presses and just running with the weights. then we did a ton of abs... One more training session this week to go. This week seems to be going so slow!

Have a great night!

diet

I need to work on eating more...
today I had oatmeal with protein for breakfast and a shot of Goji juice
snacked on almonds and air popped popcorn
ate spinach for munch with balsamic vinegar and cucumbers and mushrooms
protein power bar
sweet potatoes for a snack

I obviously do more snacking during the day than anything because I teach high school and can't leave class to eat my meals. I get a short lunch can can prepare easy stuff. I am drinking enough water and taking vitamins (beverly nutritional)

looking for more suggestions!

Hey there! Just wanted to give you some suggestions re: food from one high school teacher to another..

Honestly, I just eat in class. I munch on packets of tuna (my kids complain about the smell but get over it pretty quick), veggies, fruit, spoonfuls of pb, protein shakes, deli meat, turkey jerky, chicken rolled in ww tortillas, etc. It kind of gets to be a joke between me and the kids over how much I eat.

If you can't eat in class, maybe you can wolf something easy down between classes?
