Eat a lot.
Add 5 pounds a week on the barbell.
Give it priority (Example: Don't squat before or do pullups, etc.)
Don't cheat yourself.
Push with heals, drive them through the ground.
Stick azs back.
Good form.

start lower with 135. Do 5x5 of that till you can do that pretty decently, then start adding 10lbs each session, and once you reach a certain point you will start adding 20 lbs per session.

Clearly its not good, but everyone starts somewhere.
Work to a max set of 5 once a week. Start around 185 or so. Where you are now you can probably add 10 pounds every week until you are well over 300 lbs.
Linear progress rocks man, make the best of it!

5x5 is a TON of deadlifting if he is pushing himself. Stick to 1 max set of 5, make sure to warm up to it though.

whats a good deadlift? I'm not that strong ( most i ever benched was 210), so whats a good number to shoot for? also, is a 300lb DL equivalent to like a bench of 225?

Took me around 6 months to get from repping 225 to repping 365. One of the easier lifts to add poundage too. Just keep that ****ing back straight, dont sacrifice form, and breath lol.

Aim for 405. 405 is a weight that you will be able to reach within a year or two of training, maybe much sooner, as long as you stay injury free.
I would say a 300 lb deadlift is like a 185 bench, but thats just being pulled out of my ass.

I can do it and I rule, so you are therefore on the path of ass kickery.

Once you get the technique down you will have more confidence and the weight will go up.
Make sure you are squatting too.

Ditto. Probably a bit less actually.
6 weeks later I tested my 1RM at 230. From 80-90 all the way to 230. 1RM goal is 450. Long ways to go, but its doable.

Man I started deadlifting with the bar I think. It's very important to get your form down first, then add weight. Go light and get the form. I would then advise working in a high rep range (like 10 reps) and slowly upping the weight. Too much weight too fast + not knowing what you are doing = serious risk of injury.
edit - and really what is the point of this 1 rep max bs? Who cares what you pull if you are still small? Focus on using the lift to gain size and strength... the obsession with the 1 rep max is unneeded IMO. I'd rather pull "for a clean set of 10".

225 is a good deadlift.... not because of how much weight it is... but because you are doing deads! ANY dead is a good dead, as long as you are doing them!
Keep working and you'll get stronger, and you'll build a thick physique.
Keep your ass down, your head up, and your back straight. Drive up through your hips and push with your legs, don't just pull with your back. Lock out at the top.
Just keep doing them!

give him a break, not all of us have good genetics for lifting. I get tired of people with good genetics thinking they know how to train better. same, no hate, just being honest.
