From fat to fit to show to bulk
So after doing my first show (not placing well, at all) I realized that this is really something I want to focus on and continue doing!!!
I went from 297lbs to my competition weight of 173 in a little over a year and a half.
Before Pics:

Show Pic:
I dont feel like I came in anywhere near lean enough, and felt like I could have had more muscle mass but hey it was my first show and I learned a lot. I placed last and know I have a ton of work to do, and I am more then ready to put that work in.
My plan is to try and put on around 20lbs of muscle and compete in early 2011.
Can anyone help me out and point me in the right direction of some resources, about easing back off a precomp diet? I have read all about the post competition blues and trying to figure out how to do things? My cals were very very low to begin with and dont want to go crazy and start packing on crazy fat (I know I will but some back on, and I am ok with that)!
My other question is are there any really good resources to get into a bulking phase? When I search it I find so many different answers and I am getting really confused.

Impressive regardless of your placing - losing 100lbs is no small feat! Your best bet now would be to work on adding some muscle, as you said. Just add calories back in slowly, small bumps of 50-100 calories a week, and your fat gains should be minimized. Since metabolism chases intake, going slowly will let your metabolism keep up with the increased calories.

Try reading through bulking for endomorphs. It can be downloaded for free. There will be lots of good information in there to help you bulk in a healthy way. The link for downloading it can be found in the first post of this link h**p://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=3730841 (change the ** to tt sorry I dont have enough posts to post links)
Good job on cutting all that weight off. Stick with it!

Great transformation ... I'm impressed you stuck with it so long and competed. Most wouldn't have had the determination to take a cut that far from where you started. That says a lot about someone and what they're capable of. Put the focus you had during your cut into making some serious muscle and you'll come in ripped for your next show.

Judging by yr comp pix what you need is to harden up before you think about weight gain

I dont know man......I can see your point in that he is not really uber lean, but on the other hand, the man has been dieting for a LOOONG time. Might be time to give the metabolism a little rehab before you go leaner. I agree with Whomper.....add small increments of calories back in. Id give an initial 200 cal bump (assuming you were dieting considerably below maintenance) and then if you dont see any weight gain, keep bumping by 20g of carbs or so. Check in a week.....rinse and repeat.
Amazing transformation, BTW. You've got something to be real proud of.

Everyone thanks for the feedback
I had dieted down from 297 in Jan of 2008 to 225 in July 2008, from July 2008 to Jan 2009 I ate about 65% clean I just didnt have the will power or drive to start eating 100% clean again over the holidays my family is huge into desserts and it would have been really tough to spend any kind of real time w/ them w/o the urge to splurge! I started back to about 85% clean from Jan till April and then went 100% clean from April till now!
This whole week has been sucking as far as eating goes, I have been trying to get back to clean but having so many urges and people who want to hang out and eat! I have been trying to eat pretty clean gnerally getting 4 clean meals in but really screwing it up with sweets (its driving me crazy right now)!
I feel like its time to put on some muscle and then cut back down again in enough time for a show in March/April of 2011! As more seasoned competitors do you feel this would be enough time for some solid gains? Enough time to cut back down enough if I keep the bulk clean enough? Is there a good program to follow for bulking, workout wise??
I knew I wasnt lean enough but after putting in 6 months of hardcore balls to the walls dieting I couldnt back out plus I wanted the experience and to see if its something I wanted to get into and I will say that this has opened my eyes and made me want to work that much harder to do better in the next show!!!
Any advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated!!!!
On another note Oak I saw you back stage at the Olympus but you seemed pretty damn focus on the task at hand and was a little intimidated to talk to you, lol!

Bro you can do serious work from now until spring 2011. I started around where you are now about 1 year ago and look at my stage pics. It is possible and if you want it ... it's YOURS!
