Riiiiiiiiight, because the only importance an exercise has is its ability to make you feel more masculine than people who don't do it.

Deads are great for beginners as long as you keep your form in check.. your body will respond well

A must. Especially for anyone interested in "usable strength" (e.i. stength good for real life motions, not just gym lifting.

Deadlifts are the single best mass gaining lift. It hits such a wide variety of muscles that it to me is a necessity. Deadlifts are the real mans lift.

lifting+eating+time=mass its basically that simple. people have a hard time with the "time" part. dont expect overnight results. it takes months and even years.

As the posts make it abundantly clear "deads" are a great exercise for beginners. They will add thickness to your back and increase your strength. Of course the potential for injury is also high. Don't concentrate on heavy weights till you get the form down pat. start with the basic conventional deadlift, keep your back straight always, without fail, keep the bar close to your body and you will find deads truly deliver a lot of bang for your training buck. as you progress you can look into other deadlift variations.
Try to weave deadlifts into your workout by doing three sets of 6-8 repetitions. Also do hyperextensions to keep your lower back healthy. Lower back injuries can bring your bodybuilding progress to a screeching halt.
Since you are starting out and learning the movements go for whole body workouts and try to learn the following for starters
bench press
military press
squat/leg press
deadlift
barbell curl
triceps extensions/dips
Good luck.
