how will creatine affect sports that weight is a vital part of?
Creatine is supposed to improve performance, but 10 lbs of water weight will wreck me in wrestling.

DO NOT TAKE CREATINE WHILE TRYING TO CUT WEIGHT IN WRESTLING UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE! Especially if you are water depleting. If you are still drinking 1 gallong of water per day then go for it, but other wise do not do it!
Peace

layne, I was really confused about the whole creatine thing before I read your article. Theres so many out there that are biased to creatine being really bad for you or so good it's impossible to have any side effects, but your article totally blows them away. If I ever hear someone asking questions about creatine at my gym, I'm pointing them to your article.

does creatine cause subcutaneous water retention? ive gained some weight while on it (havn't even been bulking really) and my arms/chest is more vascular/ripped but my abs aren't showing as much...was thinking maybe it was cause of water retention.

wow 7 year bump.
When i first started taking creatine i was expecting big results, but creatine didn't do much for me other than make me feel fatter because of my constant bloated stomach and added just a little to my workouts. However 5+ pounds makes you feel alot better when you are skinny even if you know its just water.

wow i can't believe u just gave away the cell-tech secret hardcore creatine formula
" 50g whey protein and 50g dextrose has been shown to elicit the same insulin spike as a serving of Cell-Tech, and it is much cheaper I might add."

Yo Layne,
I hear your pretty good at this Bodybuilding thing. Want to throw some tips to a vegetarian bodybuilder(by religion)? My main question is how do i get rid of this skinny fat look? Is it because of a lack of muscle? My diet looks like this:
Meal 1:
Special K
Milkl
Peanuts
Creatine
Meal2:
PB Sandwich
Milk
Meal3:
Muscle Milk
Low Fat cheddar cheese
Meal4:
Veggie Burger
Milk
Meal5:
Sapagetti with sauce and parmeasean cheese
Meal6:
Oats + Whey + milk + banana + PB
Meal7:
Wheat tortilla
refried beans
I would appreciate it very much.
Thanks.

hey Layne, great article man, thank you. I read that you said not to take creatine while cutting water for wrestling...I'm a heavyweight (285), but trying to bulk pre-season then cut during conditioning. I don't really believe in water depletion, water cutting whatever. I don't like the idea; I think it just makes you sick and/or weaker, losing that much water. Anyway, what I wanted to ask if it was ok to use creatine durring a cutting phase. Yes, maintaining water intake, nutrition, ect. Just trying to shed fat to come in under the limit. Thanks bro

hey that last part about 50g of dextrose and 50 g of whey kind of confused me
are you suggesting I put 50g of straight dextrose into a creatine mix and have a protein shake at the same time?
just a couple problems with that..
1. dont have straight dextrose.. but i have powdered gatorade which i heard is a good substitute .... ?
2. my protein powder is 26gs per serving.. should i drink 2 consecutively?
And just a couple extra questions..
I read in an article on BB.com that creatine is much more effective taken hot, is this true?
Should I take the same mix for my creatine every time I take it, or should there be a different mix for pre/post workout and breakfast/dinner ( cuz im loading) ?

Good article, I already knew the majority of the information but i do have one particular question regarding creatina pre or post work out. I am currently cycling Green Mag which has dicreatine malate and magenisium creatine chelate.
Controlled Labs claims it is more beneficial with this particular creatine to be administred pre because this matrix is absorbed faster via the magnesium bond and would provide instant max power...how valid is this claim?

I'd really like to be able to take it. In fact, I even ordered a tub of creatine mono during that BB.com special. I tried explaining that it's safe etc. etc. to my parents, but my doctor told them one (I repeat, ONE) story of a few years back when some kid who happened to be taking creatine had his kidneys shut down.
Now they're terrified and I have to return my purchase.
I can't wait to turn 18 so I can make decisions like that for myself.

Layne this article was fantastic, actually cleared up a few things I had questions about in the first place. I'm a biochem major so it was interesting to read about the biochemistry of creatine (haven't learned that yet).
Just wondering if you know (or have heard any) info about Jack3d itself or its other ingredients. Good or bad.

Do you have a formula as to how much water someone should drink, and should it be more on a loading phase?
