Power Play (1978) Peter O'Toole and several other moderately heavyweight dramatic actors, about a coup d'etat in a generic Western European nation that starts out idealistically opposing a moderately oppressive government and ends up being worse that what it replaces.
Of course, there are scads more, but that one hasn't been mentioned, so there ya go!

Great call, pity the rest went downhill from there
The last one was pretty awesome if you ask me..And he is making another one as well. My favorite movie isnt a movie..Its a movies..Picking a favorite movie is like picking a favorite videogame. After playing games religously since 1980 there is no way I can pick a favorite.
My favorite movies are
Indiana Jones movies
Star Wars movies
Rocky movies
Rambo movies
Jurassic Park movies
Friday the 13th movies
Halloween movies "any hardcore gory scary movie"
Jean Claude Van Damme movies
Jackie Chan movies
I like the old Police Academy movies,Ace Ventura, Spaceballs,Top Secret,Naked Gun,Hot Shots,Napoleon Dynamite,Nacho Lebra,Ghost Busters,Back to the Future,Goonies,....Im sure you get it by now..

Seems everyone here is so quick to jump on anyone that doesnt follow suite.
I love so many that have already been listed here....
But my obsession is Kill Bill Vol 1 and 2, and Pulp Fiction. Quentin Tarantino is a psychotic genius. His films are passionate and violent, with purpose, and there's always this fantastic and thought-provoking dialogue. I love the character of Beatrix Kiddo. You know she's this f**ked up killer yet you're cheering her on til the very end. You gotta admire that kind of determination. Fabulous.
If I define "most favourite" of all time as the one I would watch every day on an endless loop, it would be Top Gun for the competitive spirits, military action and potentially hot sex scenes. Frankly, I just wished it had been the USAF instead of the Navy, but got to give credit where credit it due. Tons of other great movies that I like a lot.
Gladiator
/thread
it had everything and it did it perfectly

The instructor/future girlfriend really pwns the cocky fighter pilot in the classroom scene.
I am watching 'The Dirty Dozen' right now.....GREAT movie!

Gladiator--say what you like about Russell Crowe, he MADE this movie--no one else could've done that part so well.
Ben-Hur--"Ramming Speed!"
The Ten Commandments
Comedies
Big Deal on Madonna Street and its later American "remake" Who's Minding the Mint--both classics, although the Italian original is better, IMHO. Also, the original "The Nutty Professor." Eddie Murphy's was very good; Jerry Lewis's was more heartfelt.
Westerns
Shane/Will Penny/The Big Country/Red River/The Gunfighter/True Grit ("Fill your hands, you sonofabitch!")
Sci-Fi & Fantasy
Superman/Superman Returns
The Day the Earth Stood Still (the original and not the execrable remake)
Star Trek IV (for the laughs)
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Almost anything by Alfred Hitchcock and Edgar Ulmer
"This is Not a Test" (a very rarely seen movie, very low-budget, about the possibility of an atomic bomb attack and the people it affects)--"Shame" (a.k.a "The Intruder"--a William Shatner flick--yes, THE Bill Shatner--about a racist who makes his way to a Southern town to bugger everything up. Very simple--and also very frightening. Well acted by all--worth a look and both movies mentioned are on YouTube.

I hope that I do not get negged for this, however I love The Notebook. I tear up everytime that I watch it. I also really like What Dreams May Come with Robin Williams. This is also tear jerker. When I first watched it, I had not had my son so I saw it more through the eyes of the couple, however after we had our boy, I saw the horror of losing your children and then fiinding them again later and I could not imagine the joy that would bring.
Interesting cross-section!!
When I was in high-school I was telling someone about Soylent Green, I realized later that I had kept saying "Selsin Blue" by mistake...
24 hours in the life of a New York newspaper.
Great case- Glenn Close, Robert Duvall, Michael Keaton, Randy Quaid. Even has George Costanza.
Almost no one has seen it. Its my favorite 'movie without explosions'.
