Why did you start training?
Just wondered what peoples reasons were to start training. Like with me I was around 20st and got out of breath simply by getting dressed in the morning. I also suffer from some mental health problems and have always been happiest whilst training. So whats your reason?

being constantly bullied, wanting to see the people who used to pay me out be in awe of how big i am, show them i am better than them, prove myself i am better than them.
females is a small part of it, but does not bother me anymore.
bill pearl motivated and still motivates me with his amazing physique

There are a few reasons i started training really. First I was just plain out of shape and wanted to be able to keep up with my more athletic siblings. Second I wanted to look good. Third, my family had a huge family history of heart disease and type 2 diabetes and I wanted to prevent that as best as possible.

I started because I had finally reached the point of being fed up with how overweight and out of shape I had become. Then I started to see results, and liked it. Then I just started liking to work out. Now, it's just part of what I do.

I was very active and fit in college and when I graduated in 2005 and got a job, got married, and bought a house working out went on the back burner. I gained 45lbs and was really fat until I started weight watchers in Aug 2007. I wanted my life back! I was sick and tired of being fat and tired all the time.
I am currently 210lbs back in sports and lifting 3x a week. I have set a goal of 190 lbs by Feb.

got fat working in a high stress job, not making much money, and i hated how my clothes fit.
decided instead of just "getting back in shape" I'd get totally cut.

I started for the ladies like most. The opposite sex can only motivate you for so long. I do it strictly for myself now. i could care is girls dont like big muscles because i like them and thats all that matters.

I started lifting as a kid because it was just the thing to do. I evetually started taking it more seriously becasue I didn't want to slack off in Basic. Then I started again when I took a weight training class at a community college. I liked that because I couldn't miss a session if I wanted to keep up my GPA.
I finally started TRAINING in June of this year because I wanted a change in my life. Like you OP, I find that I'm happiest when I'm in the gym.

I mostly wanted to get stronger, cuz my step father bullied me around. and he was pretty big, more fat than muscle, but for a kid the guy looked huge. and there was an incident with my mother, from then on, I decided I was going to become bigger and stronger so that I could take care of my family if needed.

I started to get in shape for hockey. I was pretty much the only person on my team not to work out, and I was getting winded extremely quick compared to other people on my team, and I decided to try and change that.

I saw a picture of myself at the beach without my shirt, and my thought was somewhere along the lines of "Hell no!" So I went to the bookstore, bought a fitness book, changed my diet, started hitting the gym and running my ass around, and lost the fat. Now that I've realized I can look however I want if I put in the effort, I've started lifting to gain muscle.

Through highschool I always wanted to be bigger. It didn't really affect my confidence much being 140-145 at 6"0 but I always felt on the inside that I should be bigger, so in may 08 I finally started working out and researching nutrition/fitness a ton. I'm now 176 and planning to keep going untill atleast 190 with low maintainable bf %

Bodybuilding and lifting weights has always been something I've been interested in. My older brother had a bench with weights so I used to curl the dumbells, I was only around the age of 10-11 but I just did it. I liked doing it, stopped for a few years til I was 16 and started going to the gym. It was when I was around 18-19 when I picked up on things like nutrition and supplements. Im 23 now and I'm doing well.

I know what you mean with the last bit. There was a big guy in a movie me and my girlfriend were watching and she said I'd never be as big as that...EVER. I told her I will. I intend to be bigger than him.

I wanted to go from the fat kid to the kid that ****ed your mother.
....what?
Not really but after I lost my job I was becoming more and more stationary and consequenty put on some weight from getting no exercise. I just got home from the gym, and i can safely say this is one of the happiest moments ive had in months... I just feel effin good..

Honestly, I was at dinner with my family one night over a year ago imitating someone shaking something. I felt the chin fat flap back and forth and said that night I am gonna change that. Never looked back and got my ass on track.

I was always in shape and healthly growing up, played competitive hockey from about 5-15, playing year round, next to no body fat.
Fastforward to 15+ I stopped playing hockey and went snowboarding etc. My fitness level pretty well near dropped, I started to workout when I was 22 because I was sick of being chubby I guess, I had been wanting to get my body fat down to 10-15%.
I've been discouraged a lot lately though, i've been working out since April religously, atleast 5 days a week and my bf% definately has not dropped. My muscles have grown but at this point i'd rather see a drop in bf%.
I guess i've got to force myself to really step up the cardio, i've biked over 1500kms on the stationary bike since april + whatever i've run on the treadmill.

When I was really young, I would eat loads of food and as a result I ballooned to 228lbs of fat! During freshman year in high school I asked this girl out and I was flat out rejected and she called me a fatty. From that point on I decided that I would never let my physique be a hindrance to me in any aspect of life. I picked up some magazines and started hitting the gym. I've been in love with bodybuilding ever since.
