Not really. It's typical UPS and USPS pricing for anything/anywhere. Hell, I just went to the post office the other day to mail a few papers by Priority so it would get there by the weekend.... cost $4.85. I'm pretty sure the tea weights more than those papers.
They usually mail mine in a box with those foam/popcorn things..so it's packed pretty well too.
Just like with anything else you buy over the internet - stock up and get enough and make the shipping price be worth it. It comes out cheaper to buy 10lbs of Yerba at once that could last you a couple months rather than 5 pounds for a few weeks.(random numbers)

There is no top brand. Just depends on your taste preference. I found some to be really bitter and gross.. yet other people like them.

I really like Canarias Serena. In my humble opinion, its one of the best out there, but I am partial to yerbas that mix in other dried herbs and roots. This one tastes good and is strong.

"Canarias Serena is a processed Yerba Mate product based on an array of herbs selected so meticulously as to ensure that its flavor, quality, and superiority represent our finest product. Thanks in part to an exclusive mixture of ingredients such as Yerba Mate, Linden Flowers (Tilo), Passion Fruit (Mburucuya), mint, and Melissa officinalis (Toronjil), Canarias Serena is an ideal product for those who prefer to enjoy the smooth flavor of Yerba Mate without relinquishing the true flavor of real mate"

Just tried it and am amazed
I tried to find it at local sources first. To my luck there was a place with it. The Cruz de Malta was there and hearing it as a good break in I bought it. Was nice to not have the shipping costs related.
I have been feeling great since then, and the difference is physical. I had my blood pressure checked and It went down. I haven't began any exercise regimen and the BP drop was immediate. My current BP is normally at 178/105 High, after each of my 3 Servings of Yerba it was 150/97. It would rise steadily untill my next serving and it would drop a few again. Not dramatic and its still not good, but its difference enough I could feel it physically which prompted me to check it and monitor it.
I have also felt more focused. The feeling is much better then coffee. I also don't feel lethargic like usual. I have gained weight over 5 years of marriage and right now I feel pretty unhealthy vs my past days.
Back in 2001 I was 180 lbs 7% BF, Now I am 290 lbs and 26%. Way too much.
This feeling has helped me to get off my butt and on my feet to get doing stuff. Lots of times I do work because I have to but I actually felt like I wanted too.
Also was uplifting.
It has been weird but good. I am glad I stumbled upon this post. Hopefully this effect doesn't go away with tolerance.

Sweet. I'll order this. I bought the Guyuki crap from my local store and am glad to hear it's cheaper elsewhere.
How much is best for its fat burning benefits? A cup a day?

Fat burning?

The way I see it is that it isn't a direct fat burner. It is an effect of the tea. It doesn't give jitters gives energy. If that little boost is enough to get you up off your ass your doing more because of it.
If you are already in shape or have a program, this will help lift you and get to doing a bit more. It feels like a natural mood booster.
And when results aren't coming in you need that boost, this could be one way of getting it.
I have been working on a bag of Cruz De Malta for 3 weeks and am almost out, but I drink it instead of coffee and I have been up to doing more. My wife said I have been more Positive.
Too bad I didn't turn in to smiling BOB or started hearing Viva as well but, can't get everything out of one thing.

Yeah i have found the effects are mainly appetite suppression and focus rather than fat burning.. definitely a good aid though

I'm betting you'll love the Canarias Serena. The Guyuki stuff is terrible. I usually make two infusions a day -one in the morning and one in the afternoon after lunch. So it is probably about a cup of yerba a day, which I will put about two liters of water through -one thermos in the morning, one in the afternoon.

great..i just spent $35.
I bought the travler mug w/ free bodilla ,Canarias Serena and some other one that is flavored orange, and the groud.
The reason behind this is, I turned into an energy drink /coffee addict. If I can get off that and drink this tea, I would be happy. I am also coming back to working out after a long period of being lazy LOL.

Just got mine today..
I didn't drink any caffine today and I'm a caffine addict. I tried the mate and I can't believe I feel energized. Its not like a caffine boost that makes you very jittery. Its more of a high energy feeling that makes you want to lift heavy LOL.
I say..this beats caffine and a good alternative.

I'm about to finish up a bag of Cruz De Malta. While I did enjoy it, the bag came with a lot of dust, which of course went right through the strainer and into my drink. Is the Canarias any better in that regard?

If you can find a latino grocer that sells mate, this is your best bet. I used to order online and did find that the shipping costs seemed inflated, but I was lucky enough to find a store that sold mate at cheaper prices than the listed prices online ($2.89 for a kilo of Cruz de Malta! $5.50 a kilo for my favorite Rosamonte Especial). And of course there is no shipping. The variety of brands did not beat yerbamatecafe but they did have the most popular ones.... all varieties of Rosamonte and Taragui, Canarias, Cruz de Malta, etc.
I love how cheap it is. It's so hard to find anything healthy that's also reasonably priced.

Canarias is very dusty, more so than Cruz de Malta. There are some brands that yerbamatecafe describes as "low dust" like Romance, but I've never tried them. For drinking with a bombilla I've found mate with stems pulls cleaner and easier.

I found when making it the traditional way, that the first infusion of Romance is really bitter, more so than other mates. Otherwise it's fine, and yes, it's pretty low on dust.

What are some of the stronger brands. I usually fill about half the cup with mate to get desired taste. I drink union and taragui, the flavored ones. Any suggestions? Thanks

Chances are that you could find some sites to buy it from, or you could always try ebay for cheaper prices, but at least you will learn some more about it and not have to take my word for it.
I dont know why people say "I am sure its not," when they have never tried it. Caffeine is regarded by many as a good fat burner, as was ephedra. All of these products have affects because of the xanthine compounds they contain. Mate happens to have a very unique compound that differs significantly. You know it does something by the fact that every fat burner in the industry is rushing to add it to their snake oil product.... All I am telling you is that it is cheaper in bulk, and actually has an effect, as you arent just injesting a trace amount in some pill.
I am serious about this stuff people. Its not like I am in the business or anything so I have no alterior motives. I just started drinking this stuff 2 years ago and have become a big fan of the drink of the gods, as it really does the things that the article says it does. When people tell me they buy energy products or drink coffee, I laugh now... because they dont know the secret. In the gym I worked out at in Buenos Aires, people drank it during their work out.... People drink it for breakfast, people drink it at night.... all day long, etc etc. Do some research... its a cultural thing for them, and you just dont see fat people in Buenos Aires. I think mate may help contribute to that fact. PM me with questions. If you enjoyed learning somthing about it... hit me with some reps.
If you dont want to try it.... fine, your loss. Just trying to get the word out about something that I swear by, which could help lots of other people the way it helped/helps me.

Erva-Mate
I checked my local Brazilian store and none of the teas said yerba, they all said erva-mate. Is that the same thing?
I can't post the image cuz my posts are low but I basically joined cuz of this thread. Also, the package was 500g and only $0.99. It was called PAMPAS Erva-Mate.
Any good?
