He's known for pretty much training year-round. That's what works best for him, I guess. He tried taking some time off after his first win but then went back to year-round training after 07.

He's got like 4x the detail in that video than he did at the 07 Olympia. Look at his arm separation!

his form oviously works for him and always has. on BB rows, he uses pretty much the same form as Coleman and Yates used, almost upright. if it aint broke, dont fix it.

That's not what folks are talking about. They're not criticizing his BB rows and T-bar rows for being more upright than some. They're criticizing his form on those lifts cus he rounds his back.

If you're training with Mr.O on a regular basis you can bet your ass you'd be following his technique. I would too.

3 weeks after the Olympia
Jay looks amazing and he's already back up to 280 when he was only in the low 260's just 3 weeks ago. I wish I could gain weight that fast. I do realize that after dieting that your body act like a sponge and you can gain at a faster rate, but his looks pretty clean still and not all water like some guys gain back after a show. As far as his workout partner, he's the luckiest sob too be able to workout with one bodybuilding best. Jay can call me up anytime if he needs a workout partner.

x2, even if something doesn't seem like you'd use it on a regular basis, you could always use it as a learning experience. As long as you keep safe and stuff, that's what matters.

just thinking out loud here.... your average person will keep a curve in there lower back(lumbar spine) to avoid injuring that region during various types of rows.
But perhapse Jay can feel more or get more out of the exercise with his back rounded how it is and his lower back is so strong it can prevent any injury from happening
Ive noticed this form in many of jays back videos for years and could be totally off but just a thought

That a valid idea and it does have some merit... after all I'm sure Jay of all people is aware that he's rounding his back. Considering how strict he is with his form in general he may be doing it on purpose.

i know, even when he's not in any particular position just looks like he's about to explode any second. shrink-wrapped, rippled marble.

There actually is a large variation in the population in just how much rounding is still ok. There's a lot of different spines out there.

Jay himself has termed it 'sloppy form' in one of his training vids, A cut above I think from 99. He says he likes using momentum cos he can feel the pull on the muscles harder. But yeah, Branch is that + going to failure + forced reps as well.
