What can I do to to motivate myself everyday?
There are times when I'm very motivated, I feel like working as hard as I can (for school, sports,...) and there are other times, that are much more frequent, where I'm very lazy and don't do anything. I start thinking "I don't feel well enough to work", "what's the point",...
I really want to become successful in life, particularly in sports (hockey) and school (not sure in what field yet, mix between sports, law, economics) but I really have trouble motivating myself day in and day out.
Is there anything I can do to become motivated the moment I wake up and leave for school all the way till the evening for hockey practise? I feel like I'm not living 100%. It takes me about till 5-6 pm in the afternoon to be fully awaken and motivated to get stuff done. What can I do?
I also don't do simple things like call my driving instructor. I haven't been driving with him for a year now (due to a serious injury to my knee) and I keep saying "I'll call him next week" but I never do. As if I was scared of something... Now, all my friends have their driver's licence and I don't....
I rarely live my day at 100%. I'm always drowsy and feel sleepy. Dunno why. Sure I don't sleep a lot some nights but I'm a healthy 19 yo.. I play a lot of hockey during the week, 4-5 times and I'm having tor
Not that I'm not successful, I play competitive hockey, I go to university, I go to the gym, I'm healthy,....but I feel like I'm missing something to become really who I can become.
Do you guys know what I can do? Do you have like a quote or something I can read first thing in the morning to motivated myself? Or is it more of a state of mind?
thanks a lot guys

Hey
Dude you sound like your busier than hell......you need to sit down and write down your priorities....the things thats are the most important to you 1,2,3,4....rate them. The activities that are less important rating wise....study those....do you need to continue to them....do they serve you?....are they still worth your time or energy?...If not drop them from your daily routine....Being tired...your an active young guy...some of this is natural...but if you think it's a major issue look at your diet......are you getting enough protein,veggies,fruits....you may be dehydrated which may be causing fatigue.....drink lots of water......If it continues you may want to see your doctor...you could have low blood sugar.....You said something about not following though with commitments....sometimes those behaviors were learned....do you have a parent that doesnt follow though with things?...something to think about....Awareness is the key sit back and examine your present life man....all the best....Self

Go to bed earlier & get better sleep!.
When I get a good nights sleep this has more effect on my motivation than any other single factor.

I dunno, you think I do too much? It's true that between university, homework and hockey, I don't have a lot of time to do much else (and don't have the energy).
Really, hockey and school is what I want to succeed in the most, those are my top priorities.
I don't think it's a parent issue. My parents don't do it.
Like for example today, I got 7 hours of sleep last night but I had great difficulty keeping an eye open in class today. Weird.
I may check the low blood sugar with my doc.
Anything else?

I get like this sometimes aswell, actually quite a bit. I try to imagine where I want to be, and how I want to look. I picture it all, I want to be a successful Realitor(my mom does it and shes good) even if it takes me 5 years. Get my own house, a hot tub, have a clean garage(my dads garage is full of junk) with my snowmobiles, fourwheelers, motorcycle, and can work on all that **** right in my own garage. Have a warm heater, a cold fridge, good size TV, and every tool organized. Like to have a campshack that i pull out to kakwa(mountains in North-West Alberta) every winter spend all weekend snowmobiling and sharing stories. Own a little cabin at Powder King(amazing snowboarding/ski-ing hill) that I can bring friends over too go snowboarding all day, relax in the evening. Spring/Summer go fourwheeling all over Alberta/BC, and go to rodeos. Learn how to play the guitar and get a little better at singing. Also looking forward to snowboarding, and snowmobiling when im in better condition. People are always trying to make there snowmobiles go faster and get lighter, but if they just dropped 50-100 lbs, that would make them go faster than money can buy. Same thing with snowboarding, lots of work on the legs, won't be as much strain on them this year, allowing me to enjoy it. I know being in shape will make all these goals that much more achievable, I don't drink, never done drugs. My only drug has been food indulging and playing too much video games. I cut games(world of warcraft) out of my life. Being in shape will do soo much for my confidence.
I try and picture this to give me a leg up. I almost gaurantee nobody on this forum pictures the same thing I do, but too me thats the good life.
Perhaps you are go go hockey, school, homework, workout, and than when you have this freetime you dont know what to do. Only so much **** you can browse on the web and research. Maybe take up another hobby, learn to play an instrument.

Your pretty active but your gonna have to decide if your over active....I said what I said so you could ponder it for yourself....Me personally I'm working on my masters in Special Ed.,workout, and run about 15 miles a week, work fulltime.....I live in Kansas city and since the Chiefs are 0-4 me,my brothers and their buddies have been playin football Sundays...I'm keepin up barely....The only other advice I could give ya is the look closely at your diet...since you are active you need to insure your body in gettin the nutrition it needs to keep up with your active lifestyle...again Much Luck Dude....Self

I know its hard man. Going to school doing the things that you supposed to do, setting goals and plan then one moment you realize that it ain't happening?
This kind of experience should always be taken on a positive angel else it will be a source of mental-depression. It will eat your emotion long before you can proceed to your next goal.
I can't stress how books made me think in a different way. This is not a muscle mag book but it's a book created by Robert Kiyosaki and Donald Trumph "Rich Dad Poor Dad"
gosh, it teach me ways I've never ever knew way back I was studying accounting and finance. it's very motivational
Also, its good if you find a buddy or a pal who is going on the same track with you. There's no better friend than a real one.
Remember in School, all that matters is "your grade and if you will graduate"
but after graduating you will realize that there's something more to learn that your teachers didn't teach you.
They call it the "street-school" and you can only learn that from people who have taken that step inch by inch

Jeez, I'm gonna have 6+ hockey sessions per week now, I dunno how I'm gonna manage it. I haven't studied at all for university yet...it's getting ridiculous.

OP why are you getting down on yourself so hard man. You sound real busy with school and hockey, it seems you have really high expectations for yourself. Most people are content with themselves, though they do nothing all day.
What I do to motivate myself is picture all the positive outcomes you obtain with hard work; women, good hockey player, good grades. Think about your goals and where you want to be in 2-3 years, picture the goals everyday and just realize to obtain that dream you need to bust ass! As for procrastinating with the driving instructor.. you just have to write stuff like that down set a date AND DO IT!

Well the thing is, I have to have high expectations if I want to achieve greatness and have success in everything I do! That's what I want in my life. Make the most out of it, work hard and have fun.
I don't like doing nothing all day. I find it non productive. There's so many other things you can do: read, learn something, do sports,...
The only thing is that I can't seem to find the right balance between all this. I'm constantly tired, feel drowsy, no energy at all.
I also don't have time to go out anymore. I haven't been out with friends in like 3 weeks now...

There are times I feel very motivated.... There are times I feel very crappy and not motivated and say the same exact things your saying. You can't be "high" or "up" all the time. Everything is a cycle. Find things that motivate you... Music, looking at photos of bodybuilders or athletes, anything. anything at all that motivates you. Also, if it is about training and your physique - I know a number of people below posted this... Rome was not built over night. This shiiit takes time and hard asss work, ups and downs, sweat, tears, etc. etc. etc.
You seem like a very smart and analytical person - I also want to be successful in life. Currently right now I'm selling advertising for a major media company in New York City during one of the worst recessions ever. It's a great job, but I am not fulfilled. I thought its what I wanted, but maybe not. You will find it, and you will pursue it. Look forward. Look into the future. What do you want? What do you want in the short term? What do you want in the long term? What things will hold you back from your short term goals? WHat things will hold you back from your long term goals? And DONT DO THEM.
In regards to training... when I look in the mirror I say, someone else is still training, or training hard, or didn't cheat in their diet last week. You have to get in your own head and strengthen yourself. Going to the BodySpace community will HELP you find your motivation, but they will not TELL YOU, what is supposed to motivate YOU. It's YOUR life.
Think about what you want... and break it all down... How do I get there?
You will succeed in everything my friend.
Mike

yo dude, I gotta love that statement you throw there. It's true that if you keep making "plans" only and not doing it. your dreams will be just dreams forever.
a lot of people (whom I knew personally) keep saying. "just wait, I will be like that one day", after years and we graduated I saw some of them and they still "look" the same.
The same old flabbers with thick bellies and sort of stuff.
so much for the word "One day"
Maybe, if they will stop saying that word, a new paradigm will for in the hemisphere of their brains.

Every now and then most people go through a low point when they feel they arent getting the results they should from all the hard work. Im the same every now and then I'll hit a low point but other than that I love training and its the high point of my day. I stay motivated all the time by setting small goals for myself, such as adding a little extra weight on a movement. Doing just that small amount extra makes me feel Im taking baby steps in the direction I want to go, they might be small steps but Id hate to turn around and go back to how I used to be.

I used to play hockey in the WHL/Major Juniors. A major piece of advice I would give you is to live your life with a sense of urgency, I didn't or I would still be playing hockey proffesionally. You are young and have the whole world ahead of you, but if you don't do it now you will live with regret for the rest of your life. As for motivation, try to live your life in the moment, don't think too much about the future or the past. Someone touched on this earlier, if you are not putting in the work you can be sure that your competition is (that goes for academics and sports). There is no real cure for lazziness, if you have a real problem with procrastination the best thing to do is act on every task immediately. You sound a lot like me when I was your age, I would put things off for years!!! Now I do everything that needs to be done right away because I know if I wait it will never happen, most of the time thinking about what you have to do is actually much worse than just doing it. As far as energy, playing hockey 4-5 times a week will turn anybody into a zombie, so just be mentally strong, try not to waste your time with alcohol or drugs and just give all the energy you have to every task you take on and prioritize!!! You are not giving yourself enough credit, your plate is obviously full and you are doing the best you can. That is more than most 19 year olds can say. Good luck with everything. Your not always going to feel energetic and motivated, it's what you do in these situations that seperates the winners from the loosers.
