I remember seeing "Full Metal Jacket" when I was younger. As a result, I've never considered enlisting.
"Lean forward and choke yourself!" << that scene was brutal.

Just got back from PLC 1st Increment, they ridiculously over-shipped the Jrs. Several Sgt Instructors said that the reason we had the biggest battalion like ever in the history of OCS was because of this expansion. 210k was the number that was thrown around. And it did seem as though they kept mommas boys who should've been kicked out the first day.

In the future, you may not want to use a public discussion board to highlight your inability to understand very simple training concepts. . .
Maybe the Marine Corps needs to change their whole firearm training program, too. After all, the bad guys in Iraq don't run around wearing paper targets or steel silhouettes.

Hey to the OP
If your in college, stick it out, then join the marines. You'll be an officer and instantly get paid more and have a better life. If you want to shoot at people right now, sure join, but you'll be throwing away a large opportunity for something better.
But about basic, its a joke.
You get there, and your life sucks for the entire time. You'll realize about 3 weeks into it that it is a massive joke but you have to keep it up for the duration. Its going to be the hardest thing you'll do besides some of the higher echelon trainings like SF but everyone does it.
And anyone with a decent IQ will get a instant promotion after basic. Dont listen to recruiters. Hell I remeber a army recruiter telling me I could fly f-15s if I enlisted.
Anyways, if you're dying to be in the military, sign up for ROTC or something. Its legit and great money

Well I haven't been to Marine boot camp, it is very similar to Army boot camp. At least when I went through. Once you figure out the mental game you can smile (inside your head) as you're getting smoked for three hours or get woken up in the middle of the night for something stupid.

its pretty damn easy now tbh compared to years ago.
Really depends on the company and platoon your in on how hard/easy ur life will be. MCRD SD 2nd BT do alot more drill where as 1st and 3rd do alot of physical work. Thats from my experience anyway
I was in Fox company and got IT'ed maybe 3 times during the whole time.
My buddy was in india and got IT'ed for 30 minutes as a christmas present

Hahah my worst downfall in navy boot camp was smirking or laughing at my RDC. I worked out for hours cuz of it lol. I can count the numbers of times I went to bed drenched in sweat for it. But oh well just remember they can only screw with you for so long. You have a graduation day, look forward to that. Memories well worth it

Its easy. Just do what your told and keep your mouth shut. Like anything, looking from the outside it looks hard, but when your actually doing it, you adjust to it. It's actually kinda funny.

Yep...not to mention they have everything planned out...down to the minute..
I was a scribe and had light duty because of stress fractures and did alot of computer work for them and they had set out a certain amount of time per day just to **** with recruits.
So they dont do it because they hate you...its part of the plan, hating ur guts is just the bonus and feels good man part.

Till this day, I still LMAO when I see that scene... Yes, going through boot, games like that were intense, but looking back... I get a chuckle at some of the things we did.

When did you go through? I was in 2nd Blt. Golf Company at SD back in '97 and we island hopped through the chow hall AT LEAST 2-3 times a week! Aside from "Senior's time" and our 1 hour "free time" we ALWAYS had bodies on the QD!

How easy is it to get employed after your 4 years of service?
I'm going to join the USMC or the Army, how ever i keep hearing if you want a job outside, don't join the Marines, is there any truth behind that?
Also, how easy is it to get a job freshly coming out of those branches?
Thanks-

Went through in 07, MCRD SD right around the time of the SGT Glass recruit abuse incidents started to hit the fan.
Only people that got QD'ed were the ones that couldnt pass the PFT and if you just pissed them off at that time.
I laughed during countoff cause I had a retarded rack mate who said his number all goofy and got the mailbag thrown at me and IT'ed for a couple minutes haha

To be honest civi's look at Marines in a higher standard than everyone else. You shouldnt have a problem getting a job from any branch though.

They had to make sure we got 8 hours of sleep so they would come in the squad bay at random times. So even if the officer THOUGHT we had 8 hours, we actually didn't.
Another example.
Our captian asked every recruit one on one if we ever been hit or denied a head call anytime during the bootcamp. We all said no even though that was a lie. People got hit everyday, but the officers cant do anything about it if they had no proof.

Haha this reminds of my OCS experince...My Sargent Intructer once slapped me in my bold head b/c it took me too long to but on my go fasters prior to pt. Also lol at the rumor that says SI's arnt supposed to curse, i was callled a ***got (good reason, took me to long to put my towel on), crackerand every other name in the book, however this pales in comparison to what they did to this indian kid in my platoon. I remeber lying my ass off when being asked by the first Sargent if the SI's have ever hit or cursed at me.
LOL good times. Also during pick I had a hard time keeping my bearing due to the Jokes and names the SI's called us however by the next day I had learned my leason.
Did the SI's ever refer to you as "thing", "nasty", "retard', "idiot" and so on

Depends on your MOS, and that goes for ALL the branches!
The civilian world doesn't have much use tank drivers, bomb hangers or mortar men... BUT anything involving the air wing (as long as you get your FAA certs), IT or Construction and you should be good.
Basically, make the Military work FOR you, NOT you for the Military

Everybody graduates from boot camp. Lots of things in the Marine Corps are that way, they'll hold your hand and walk you around like a kid to get you to pass. Same way once you get to the fleet too.
