The 416 was great on my last deployment, didn't have a single problem with it. But the ones we have at work are slowly breaking down one by one. A lot of piston issues. Was bound to happen with a rifle that just applied a band-aid fix to the gas impingement problem, rather than being engineered from the ground up.
I know we bought a few XCR's to test, but I have no idea whats going on with that. Yay bureaucracy.

No doubt man! Damn you Magpul/Bushmaster!!! They are taking way too long with releasing this rifle. I doubt they will be awarded a military contract with our current administration, however, many civilian LE agencies will be interested. The ACR should cost around $1,200 but with all the tinkering the Magpul designers have been doing that number could be closer to $1,500. Whatever the case may be sign me up.

Yea I'm aware of that.
But in absolutely no way does that make you an 18E, just doing PART of the job of one.
Hell, if I had known it was that easy, I would not have gone to selection, 18E school, and the rest of that crap. I would have just gone commo, and then gotten attached to a support team and said that I was doing an 18E's job.
Yes, it's that big of a deal.

You're pretty much restating the same thing. You were attached AS AN 18E. That's you saying it right there.
No, you were attached to a ODB in a commo role. That's what it was.
I don't give a sht if we're arguing semantics now. I went through the school, I did the job through 4 deployments, I can make a stink about it.

His duty MOS would have been 18E on his ERB because that was the slot he was filling. Primary MOS wouldn't have changed, and I doubt he would have claimed to be SF or even filling the shoes of one. At least I would hope not.

hmmm, I don't know anything about army MOS'es but I just googled 18E to see what you guys are talking about and it sounds pretty interesting. I didn't know there was such a title as spec. forces communications. I wanna work for the government/CIA doing communications intelligence (not so much radio as computers though). That's of course just my ideal job. Sounds fun!

That's actually very relevant to what I'm interested in and probably will eventually. Right now I don't have time because I take too many classes but once I'm done with school then I definitely will. Are you into networking or security at all? Hacking is what I like.

Nope, never claimed to be. You are absolutely correct, just doing my job. Never wore the beret; but, my service credentials, rank and clearance allowed me to fill the position. I still had the respect of my unit and my service through four tours was the catalyst for their feelings towards me. You may have never served with a NSSG; but, we still bleed De Opresso Liber.

that's awesome! I'm just a beginner actually.... I know like basics but nothing really really advanced where I could navigate any system (although that's a long term goal). Right now I'm doing research with a network security professor at my university trying to implement encryption methods within the sliding window protocol so that de-encryption is done before data reaches the application layer. I also worked over the summer on developing my own ARP cache poisoning application but I stopped once I found out there were already well developed and distributed programs that already provided that functionality (Like I said, I'm just a beginner so I didn't know there were programs that already did this!)
but ya, I'm really into that stuff! To me, it's almost like living a double life because it's rare that you find network/security guys that are into BB'ing or that like to go out and party at the bars. There's no overlap at all between the bars/clubs, computer hacking and bodybuilding. They are 3 totally different social scenes.

This is very true. I cant even believe some of the people they are letting in these days. There are def the great days and def the bad days but all in all ive been lucky so far. Its all going to depend on how the rest of these next few years go for me. If I cant find an agency/ GS type job that is guaranteed from the time I step out of here and that will not just flush me because of a budget crissis then I have no problem doing this for the rest of my career.

Just got back from my last field training before I go. Indiana weather is gay, it rained the whole week of course, never got above 60, but then again that **** makes it fun. One more week of MOS training, then a small pass, and then its just waiting on the plane ride.

Yea, I'm kind of an enigma. I like computers, lifting/bb'ing, MMA, partying, cars, sports in general.. LOL... Most of my buddies are combat arms guys... I haven't really found anyone in my MOS that I can really chill with, because most of them are gamers and I don't play video games... LOL...
I've got a little experience doing things I shouldn't.. LOL... I prefer to know what hackers look for so I know how to stop them.. The Army just created a new unit in MD called CyberCom. After I drop my warrant packet, I'm going to see if I can get there for the last few years of my career I think... The statement they made when the unit went active was "The Military is now seeing that cyberspace is a domain in which it can perform both defensive and offensive missions, similar to land, sea and air."

If I cant find an agency/ GS type job that is guaranteed from the time I step out of here and that will not just flush me because of a budget crissis then I have no problem doing this for the rest of my career.

Yea, I'm tired of the "what have you done for me" generation. It seems like every Soldier I come across feels some sense of entitlement. Discipline is going out the window and I'm just tired of the babysitting and ass whipping. Ya know.
