Morning sickness...trying to help my daughter...
Ok, it's been years since I've had children and back then there was nothing out there for morning sickness remedies. I remember way back when it was pretty much saltine crackers and sipping on gingerale.
My oldest daughter is pregnant and she is very sick. It's pretty much 24/7 and non stop vomiting. I'm lost, I don't know what else to suggest...hopefully it will pass.
When I was pregnant with her I was sick the entire 9 months...I hope she doesn't go through the same thing it was awful.
Thoughts or advice what worked for you?
Much appreciated!

This worked for my wife. Get a glass of ice cold water and sqeeze the juice of 1 lime in it and drink. Sorry to hear about the morning sickness. Congrats on the baby!

My mother wasn't sure at first, now loves it. She said it's her reward for not killing me as a teenager. lol!

Maybe I'll just tell people it's my kid...I can probably get away with it...for a few more years anyways.

Its easier now than it used to be. If she has it bad, all day her Doc can prescribe a med that greatly reduces it. It's better for her to take the med than to get dehydrated or lose nutritionally. Tell her to call and ask right away, no sense suffering if you don't have to.

Protien helped me... I would keep something handy, like cooked roast beef, in the fridge- and eat a little slice when I felt the nausea coming on. Any time I got hungry- was when it was the worst... like if I went out doing errands with my husband- and put off eating a little longer because we were driving somewhere- when we got there- I'd be getting out of the car and hurling behind a guardrail... I learned to eat a lot more often. Unfortunatly for me- it solved the nausea but also made me fat as all get out.

There are prego pops that apparently cure morning sickness - basically just hard candy. They never really worked for me, but others have sworn by them. You can find them in drug stores and most maternity/baby stores carry them.
I didn't have horrible morning sickness, but I found that constantly eating helped my nausea. I just made sure I was nibbling on something (crackers, fruit, veggies, snacky type stuff) all day. The emptier my stomach was, the more nauseous I felt.
Just be careful not to stuff your face 24/7 for nine months. lol
Health food stores carry 'natural remedies' your daughter could try. If all else fails or it's REALLY bad, she should see her doctor. Like Stackums said, there is medication if it's severe.
Good luck and congrats!!

Like Erin, I was blessed and did not get sick.
But congratulations Kim!!! That's so exciting!
And definitely have her contact her doctor. There are some meds that help with the sickness.

You can look at slippery elm bark or things with ginger. I couldn't choke down crackers...I would nibble on Hawaiian bread muffins a little through the day.

I had morning sickness throughout... the usual things like crackers etc didn't help...
Training early morning before the worst of it kicked in did help ( I was an all day sickie)...
Also whipped icecream helped... but not the block stuff... that just made me gag...
Who knows...
Lying down in a cool room when possible was also a good thing...
Congrats and I hope she doesn't have this for too long...

My mom is in the "I'm not old enough to be a grandma!" club too, Kimm (well, she's 10 years older than you)
I eat a lot of crackers, and eating very frequent carb-based meals (wraps, bread, crackers, etc).
I'm still fairly sick in the early morning, just like my mom was. Sadly, I don't think much will change for your daughter because it seems every woman has the same sickness their mother had.
As much as I feel awful (and your daughter does too), it's a bit comforting to me knowing that the nausea/bloating/boob pain means that things are moving along normally. A lot of first timers (myself!) are paranoid that things aren't going normal.

hehe - another thing my mom enjoys is being mistaken for my kids' mother, then the resulting "You don't look old enough to be a grandmother" comment that follows once she corrects the misunderstanding.

Emetrol is the only nausea medication approved for use in pregnancy. You can make your own mix of an old time morning sickness (Bendectin) by combining Doxylamine (active ingredient in Unisom and other OTC sleeping pills) with B6.

I keep Emetrol in the medicine cabinet all the time. It's great stuff for stopping that "I'm going to throw up" feeling. Never had to use it when pregnant though. Definitely see what the doc suggests.
Hopefully your daughter won't be sick the whole time. That really sucks.

Preggie pops, definitely. I had all day sickness with my daughter and that was about the only thing that helped. That and flat diet ginger ale. Yeah, it's kind of gross, but desparate times...
Hope this part of it passes quickly, and congrats!

I had morning sickness with my first daughter but it wasnt too too bad. I just had to make sure I never let myself get too hungry. I would have to eat something little first thing in the morning right out of bed and then continue to nibble on things all day. Pretzels worked better than trying to eat saltines all day. I did try ginger ale but it didnt do much. I hope that helps.

If she goes to the doctor and gets a prescription for something, make sure she does some research on it before taking it because I've been learning about teratogens in child psychology/development and you will be surprised about what can be harmful/cause birth defects.

Eating crackers, etc sometimes does not help especially if someone is so sick that even the thought of food sends shivers through the spine.
What helped me was sparkling water with freshly squeezed lemon and ginger tea made from freshly grated ginger and some lemon with Manuka honey, which is full of vitamins.

I am currently pregnant with twins... and was VERY sick the whole first 2 1/2 months. My OB perscribed Zofran for me. It is perfectly safe, and made a huge difference. I had lost 5 lbs in the first few weeks and this helped me reverse that and actually be able to continue working.

I have never been pregnant, but my mother SWORE by this bizarre concoction when I was growing up. Every time I saw her eating it, I knew there was another sibling on the way. Ha ha ha!
She would eat a huge bowl of steaming brown rice with salt or dried seaweed crumbled into it for salty flavor. So weird!
