Your post workout shake will start rebuilding the muscles immediately. The carbs from the shake will replenish muscle glycogen stores and the protein will start the rebuilding process. The meal that you have afterwards doesn't have to be a large meal. Usually you will go to sleep a few hours after anyway so you don't need a large meal. Lee Haney said it best.
