Depending on what version firmware you're on you can tether.
I was tethering on my jailbroken 3G running 3.0.1 using pdanet
Now I'm tethering using the ipcc hack (no jailbreak needed) to tether
If you're running 3.1 then it's blocked

If you dont think you want it. then dont get it. But the little extra you pay is well worth it

Basic economics will tell you that Apple was first to the market of mp3 players with the original Ipod. This allowed them to develop a loyal fan base for their mp3 product line. Once the Iphone came out all the people using Ipods figured they might as well buy the Iphone(face it, it's just an Ipod that makes phone calls).
I'm not going to deny that they are good products, but, just like the Mac vs. PC argument, why would I pay $200 for an 8GB Itouch with a 3" screen and be stuck with gay Itunes when I can get a 30GB Creative Zen Vision W with a 4.3" screen(which I own) for the same price and NO Itunes and supports Avi files without converting. Oh and a user replaceable battery.

You guys pay a lot for your contracts over there. I am 22.50GBP per month, so about $36 for a contract that gives me over $285 worth of credit to spend how ever I want, plus BBemail and unlimited web access.
I was reading about the US cell coverage and how it needs a major upgrade, as a result about 30% of iPhone calls in NYC were being dropped. Not the iPhones fault, just commenting on the US coverage and the price you pay for it.

Now its price? LOL whats next?
The amount of productivity tools this device has is endless, and far more than any other mobile device out there.
Have you seen the email interface on a Blackberry? its terrible.....
I use my phone for work/personal/side business...
I send out more than 300 emails a day for work on the phone while im on the road. I check personal email, and use the phone/text for personal use, and the side business apps are amazing.
Have you ever considered what a wireless handheld credit card scanner costs? They run in excess of $3500, plus monthly fees. You can get an app on the App store that does the same thing, for $30....SECURELY!
What about GPS in the car? What does a decent stand alone unit go for these days? $250ish?
This is one of MANY examples.
Love it or hate it. It is the best handheld ont he market, and the sales prove it.
now STFU
|
the haters will hate...what can you do brah
iPhone > BB anyday. I cant belive the crap I hear when people tell me Blackberry is king of emails. God damn it was terrible sending emails, and attachments? You cant even open half the attachments on a damn blackberry...

I am sure the article I read was for AT&T. It also mentioned how some people were being dropped all the time, others only on the rare occassion, you must be one of the lucky ones

Working in an office 12hrs a day sucks so this is what I used it for:
-Personal e-mails that are blocked at work
-Directions with google maps
-Yelp app for restaurant reviews in the area
-Misc while taking a dump
-Facebook to keep up with friends back home
-Music for when im on the subway
-Notes - When on the go
-Check on weather, check on traffic, check pr0n
-Mint.com app to keep track of my finances
-When traveling internationallly the Truphone app helps with using Wifi to call anywhere in the world without ever roaming etc...
-Internet virtually anywhere I want (book flights, hotels, etc..)
etc...
I was an Iphone hater, and now I love it. Its only $30 a month more than what I used to pay before.

I visit Japan often for work. What you can do with the iPhone, the Japanese have been doing for the last 5 yrs.
You guys should check out what Softbank has to offer over there.
And before anyone says "iPhone is outselling all others in Japan" That is because Softbank gives them away for free. They have a contractual obligation to buy a set amount each quarter, coundlt sell them..so now they are free. I think the 32GB model did cost $100 USD however.

The only thing that sucks, i'll admit, is when you drop the phone it seems to shatter the screen which cost $200 from Apple or $100 from random shops or $20 for a DYI...Mine freaking shattered and I barely dropped it 3ft

try one of the "hard gel" cases.... its like there is barely a case on the phone and it works great.

I wish I can get an Iphone. I'm stuck on a 2yr tmobile contract for the next 18 months. I just heard you don't get all the features when you unlock it onto tmobile which pretty much makes it a g1, the phone that I currently have.

I love my iphone and my macbook and my ipods and my apple tv, you mad? but seriously its great, the only downside to it before was no MMS but with the recent update problem solved

No..not really. I have to hand it to the US cell companies, they do a great job of releasing bits of technology to the US market, getting consumers to constantly update their phones.
Smartphones have been around far long in Japan than the US. The iPhone is about 3yrs behind current offerings in Japan.
The iPhone might be a killer phone in the US market..but not elsewhere.

the only thing that BB has going for it anymore is the keyboard, the security aspect, and the fact that they are so deeply entrenched in corporate america. but android, webos, and iphone OS are all chipping away
