Haha, man, I still miss lifting! Doing just a few sets was just a tease. Squats felt pretty good, probably could have done another rep; just didn't feel completely safe on 'em without having the pinky to help hold onto the bar!

Thanks for all the info via text messages Luke. I will change my original plan and consume BCAAs only. (See my next cardio post for details).

Hey man, I still have to finish up the last week of Sheiko when I can. After that, I was thinking of doing #30, but having a competition that is 3 weeks away is kinda messing up my plans. I would like to try Smolov for once though-I think I can handle it!

9/24/09: Cardio & Abs
Cardio: (Fasted) Incline Treadmill Walking
Duration: 20 minutes
Incline: 8.0%
Speed: 3.5 mph
Floor Situps: 50
Comments: Tough cardio session! Felt pretty damn good. I changed my plan of consuming a light whey protein shake to consuming only BCAAs prior to this morning cardio. I took 2 scoops of Scivation Xtend--hopefully that is enough. Of course I eat my first meal right after.
I've been progressively increasing the speed each session and will probably continue doing so, but I will eventually increase the incline then decrease on the speed.
Situps were a pain in the arse, as per usual.
Pinky finger still messed up. I just have to wait it out, but I can still train around it. Flybgirl and I are leaving for the Mr. Olympia Friday morning, so I probably won't train till next Monday.
There is a USPF competition I want to do in mid-October, but my time for that is ticking very fast, and not training right now is holding me back.

Hey Chris,
Great seeing you guys this weekend! Hope you made it back safe.
Sorry we missed breakfast this morning. I was stoked on the buffet, but the GF wasn't having it. Next year, I'll be sure to free up the Olympia weekend.
Anyway, I get back to SD on Friday. I'll give you a ring then. If your pinky's feeling any better, maybe we can do some lower-body stuff.
Take care.
-C10
PS - How was the buffet, anyway? Worth checking out?

Hey man. Training has been stalled by a smashed and dislocated pinky finger. I haven't lifted, going on 2 weeks now. Really sucks. I couldn't compete at the Mr. Olympia Fit Expo, and even the competition in Mid-October is looking grim.
As far as the info on the corps, nothing has apparently been done. I've called, left messages and emails, but nothing. I signed the contract and sworn in on July 16th, and they still haven't added me into the system. Pretty sh*tty.

Yo Mike, great seeing you guys this weekend as well!
Yeah, we made it back safety.
Well man, she has a lot on her plate, which sucks, but she does have obligations and stuff. The Mr. Olympia was great! I pretty much agree with how everything went down, except how David Henry got royally screwed out of winning the 202 lb class.
Sweet man. Hopefully I will be healed a bit more than I am now--as of now, I really can't lift much--the finger is still screwed up.
Buffet was great! We always try to hit up a different major buffet during each visit. We went to the Rio--very good! Speaking of food, thanks a lot for treating us at that restaurant man.

Mon-9/28/09: Cardio
Cardio: (Fasted) Incline Treadmill Walking
Duration: 20 minutes
Incline: 8.5%
Speed: 3.3 mph
Comments: Good cardio session. I dropped the speed back down to 3.3 mph because I increased the incline from the last few sessions from 8.0% to 8.5%. I will increase the speed incrementally before dropping it back down when increasing the incline. I did this cardio session after consuming some BCAAs. Felt great! I might start doing this cardio a little more frequently.
The Mr. Olympia weekend went very well! We ate at great places, gambled, saw a couple awesome shows, and of course, enjoyed the Olympia Finals.
The pinky is still messed up. I still can't hardly even curl the finger. Damn this injury. I don't even want to resume any kind of serious training because I simply can't lift anything. The competition in October is looking more and more grim.

I like the BCAAs during cardio session... it's a must for me.
Glad to hear you had a great weekend at the O. I don't think it's a surprise at it looks like a crazy event and I wish I could have got there. Pics?

For sure. What kind of BCAAs do you use?
Yeah man, I've gone to the Olympia weekend every year for the past 4 or 5 years. This was the only year where I forgot my camera and just said F-it to taking pics. For the past Mr. Os that I went to, I've posted pics and summations of the events and stuff, just not this time.

I have used the following:
xtend
Universal EAA stack (watermelon flavor is outstanding)
about to try ICE by Xtreme Formulations (had to get that in before purts)
Generic crap back inna' day.

Tue-9/29/09: Cardio & Abs
Cardio: (Fasted) Incline Treadmill Walking
Duration: 20 minutes
Incline: 8.5%
Speed: 3.4 mph
Situps: 20, 20, 20
Planks/Bridges: 30 sec, 30 sec, 30 sec
Comments: Another good cardio session. I increased the speed to 3.4 mph, up from 3.3 mph. I will probably go up to 3.5 mph when I do this again, which will probably be tomorrow. I supersetted my situps with the planks/bridges (whatever they are called). I'm not sure if I'm diggin this exercise though. I will give it a few more tries for longer holds to see how they work.
Diet and nutrition has been sh*tty, mainly because since I'm not working out, my appetite has decreased, and I'm not motivated to eat healthy. I'm steadily losing weight also. Just doing this cardio thing in the morning to attempt to get a little leaner, that's all. I'm bored with it and anxious to start lifting weights. It has been exactly 2 weeks since I injured my finger, and it's not doing much better at all since. I probably won't be able to lift next week either, but I'll keep my fingers crossed. It's also doubtful that I will be able to just jump back into Week 4 of Sheiko after such this layoff. That being said, I might just ease my way into things when I can.

Straight BCAAs or cocktail with EAAs, it all depends of what I want to try new. I've used a few in the past (in order of use: Scivation Xtend, Purple Wraath, Universal Nutrition Intra-Aid, Xtreme Formulations ICE...) but I found they were more useful during a cut/cardio than sipping during a workout when on a bulk (no significant difference there to be honest).
OK, brb digging through your old posts to find pics.

Which flavor did you get? Anyway, keep me posted about this one (review thread or PM).

Good idea. Take this as an opportunity to get lean. Can't workout but it doesn't mean you can't do a session like you did today. Also, less appetite automatically means less cravings for food you shouldn't be eating. Just be careful and watch the carbs you eat and you should be fine...
EDIT:

They are not quite the same (slight difference), keep that in mind. In a nutshell, it could be:
Xtend: BCAAs and citrulline malate;
EAA Stack: EAAs complex;
ICE: BCAAs and Glutamine.
It will play a big role in results, mixability and taste.

Yo man what's up?
3.5 mph walk is actually moving along at a pretty good clip especially when the incline is up like that. I put the incline up to 10% and do like 3.5 mph but do a really slow jog instead of a walk. I don't know but the jog is so much harder. It puts me on my ass after like 12 minutes.

I'm kinda the same way but I jog more because walking at 3.5 feels awkward to me than for the extra exertion. This, of course, is when I actually decide to do cardio in the first place.

Cool dude. I'm not really up to speed on all the supplements out there, but I don't mind trying something new from time to time. Now that I'm doing cardio more often, the BCAAs would help.

EDIT:
They are not quite the same (slight difference), keep that in mind. In a nutshell, it could be:
Xtend: BCAAs and citrulline malate;
EAA Stack: EAAs complex;
ICE: BCAAs and Glutamine.
It will play a big role in results, mixability and taste.

Thanks for the info regarding the differences.
Yeah, well, I feel I gotta do something. I'm still horrible at running, so I will gradually work on this.

I'm a weak machine at that! Man I feel weaker and weaker every day that I'm not lifting. It's been over 2 weeks now.
Not sure how I like the planks/bridges yet. Might do them here and there.

That's pretty much it. My time with the weights will come again.
Fo shizzle my nizzle. Pretty damn good and eventful weekend. Too bad we missed the Bikini competition .

Hey big man, what's going on? Same old crap over here--still can't lift a thing.
Wow, 10%!! I might get to that point in a month or so. I really hope this kind of cardio will help me shed fat. I'm only doing this cardio when fasted.

Not much around here dude. Screwed up my pinky finger a few weeks back and haven't lifted. Just been doing sissy cardio work.
haha, that might have happened, but I'm not even technically a marine yet!

I'm kinda the same way but I jog more because walking at 3.5 feels awkward to me than for the extra exertion. This, of course, is when I actually decide to do cardio in the first place.
|
haha, man, I just gotta ride this injury out. I lost my finger split so I gotta go get another one today. Not really doing much better yet, either.

Universal, but that is largely based on taste. Despite the claims thrown around by broscientists everywhere, I have not noticed a great deal of difference between many of the products, and like purts, I get more out of them when cutting. However you will note that my training volume is shorter per session, and spread out over six or seven days along with possible two-a-day workouts to keep intensity high. If my training sessions were longer, I might notice more.

Sat-10/3/09: Cardio & Abs
Cardio: Fasted Incline Treadmill Walking
Duration: 30 minutes
Incline: 8.5%
Speed: 3.5 mph
Ab Work:Situps: 20, 20, 20, 20
Ab Wheel: 10, 10, 10, 10
Floor Planks: 60 sec
Comments: A great cardio session! Really worked up a lot of sweat. I usually only do 20 minutes of this kind of cardio, but I bumped it up to 30 minutes and did extra ab work to help offset the alcohol I drank last night, . Next time I do this cardio, I will increase the incline to 9.0% and drop the speed down to 3.2 mph and steadily increase from there, as per usual.
Ab work felt great! I decided to try the ab wheel again to see if i could grip it. To use this, I have to grab the end of the bar and let my pinky just flare out and not touch anything. My abs are feeling pretty sore. I supersetted the situps and the ab wheel. I did the planks last.
I might go in the gym starting Monday to just do a little bit of work here and there. I'm definitely not yet ready to start a program or lift any serious weights. Pinky finger is still screwed up and hurts constantly.
My competition at the Mr. Olympia obviously didn't happen due to this ridiculous injury. The meet I really wanted to do was the USPF meet on October 18th ("Night of the Living Deadlift"), but that's not gonna happen either. There is just one more meet I could do this year, and that is the USAPL RAW Southern California Regionals, which is on November 7th. I MIGHT be able to pull this one off, but that's yet to be determined. I'm itchin' to get back on the platform and tear it up!!!
Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

Hey Chris,
Was the surgery you got last year a distal clavicle resection? I think that's what it was, but can't remember for sure...
Thanks,
