Oooh that squash looks divine. And super-simple is a concept I like to be associated with recipes- especially as I'm starting uni and sharing a kitchen next week....
And yes, I like spicy- chili powder finds its way into most of my savoury dishes (though I think I should look into a calorie-friendly chocolate chili dessert...)
Yes I'm a fan of KISS - Keep it simple stupid
Keep us posted on the chocolate chili dessert

arrghhh You're making me wish I was able to lift so badly! as is everyone else on this site! those workouts look satisfying to the soul!
what's the new diet entail?
Aww..You're just on an extended deload The weights will be there waiting for you once you recover.
As for the diet, just compiling 4 weeks worth of recipes. That way I can streamline my grocery shopping, get in a variety of meals and not have to track cals. Looking at about 1500 a day , about 120g protein, same for carbs (allowing up to 165g), and the rest fats. I'm actually excited about this OCD project

My legs were very sore from Monday's workout, especially my calves which are never sore (cuz I never work them outside of wearing heels). I think the explosive step-ups are what got me. Also, my upper traps were very sore too (like i had done shrugs) and I'm not sure why, but it must've been the UH close grip lat pull down.
Initially I wanted to do another Cosgrove metabolic workout afterwards yesterday's workout but when I got to the gym I was still pretty sore so I figured I'd just stepmill or treadmill it. But after I got through my workout the tightness had subsided so I was able to do the last Metabollic circuit from the link to her first article.
I also didn't add any extra glute work since the circuit had a minute of jumping lunges!
V Training Intermediate Phase One Workout - 40 reps/exercise
Rest: 45 seconds between each set
Load: Medium (8-9 RM)
A) BB Step-Up <--First time doing with a BB. Really focused on using the foot on the bench to raise myself w/o assistance from the foot on the floor. It's really easy to just go thru the motions on this one
50# 8 8 8 8 8
B) Bent Over Underhand Grip BB Row <--I've been using Brahette's numbers as a basis and then adjusting (usually down lol)....I didn't realize she used DBs, so this ended up being a little light! Next time will try the 50-60# BB
30# 8
35# 9 9 9 5
C) BB Push Press <--Like Brahette I really liked this move. Knee forward butt back chest up!!! I actually found myself wanting to jump on this move..so I need to focus on keeping my feet planted
45# 9 9 9 9 4
D) BB Curl
30# 8 8 7 8 9
E) Rvs Crunch <--Didn't do these since the Cosgrove circuit had plenty of ab work
Cosgrove Metabolic Circuit
1 minute for each exercise. (Except for last two, I just couldn't handle more than 30 secs)
D1) Skiers on Swiss ball - 30 secs each leg - 12-14 per leg <--Used a big ball so I had enough room to pivot which means I was in more of a downward dog than plank position. Trick is remaining balanced on the ball and I was surprised this worked more of my shoulders and arms than abs D2) Lateral step-out - 38
Rest: 1 minute
D3) Swiss ball alternating step-off - 32 <--Used a small ball. The more you put your shins on the ball, the easier it is. This is really hard on the abs!!! I could only handle 30 secs D4) Jump lunge - 34 <-- Could only last 30 secs. Next time I will just do alternating lunges for the remaining 30 secs.
Rest: 2 minutes
Repeated 3 times
I love all the Cosgrove circuits, but this is probably the most challenging since I could not handle a full min of the last 2 exercises.
Push Press
Skiers
Lateral Step Out

I'm interested to see how the V-diet training program does for you without the diet. I did the whole program back in July and had great success with it.

Well, I'm just dinkering around with the V program until I finalize my meal plan. Then I'm doing 1 month of the Total Body Assault w/a solid meal plan and then I'll do the V program next (meal plan should be refined by then.)
I was supposed to start TBA on Monday, but I didn't get to the grocery store on Sunday...and I'm weird like that. I can't start a program on a Tuesday; has to be Monday. I know it's silly but I can't help it. Probably best anyway since I need a week to recover from Sunday when I went for some comfort food - Lasagna & coffee ice cream ...it was yummy.
I'm curious what your carb intake was like on that diet? Seems like Brahette is at 1300 or 1400 cals...I would think yours would be a little more since you have quite a few more inches on us?

It was a good mock run. I do like the program. It has really short rest periods for me - 30 or 45 secs so I'm definitely feeling a difference.

I've discovered goat cheese at Trader Joes. I really like it so far - a little goes a long way and I LOVE the way it melts. I definitely prefer it over cream cheese for cooking at least.
I made this Easy Eggs Florentine with Baby Spinach and Goat Cheese off Martha Stewart's Website and it was yummy! It gets a 9. (I simplified it and just sprayed 1 slice of bread with EVOO spray and then plopped it in the toaster).
And I'm very intrigued by this Poached Egg with Baked Yogurt and Watercress
I'll drop the watercress (use scallions or cilantro since I usually have those on hand) and just pan fry the egg, but I'm very curious about BAKING greek yogurt. Definitely a weekend type of recipe.
I also made Scrambled Eggs w/Sauteed Baby Spinach Mushrooms and Scallions w/Goat Cheese but I don't remember where I got the recipe from any more...But this was very good too. 8.5!!
Other ways I've used goat cheese:
-the glue to wrap smoked salmon around chilled asparagus
-the glue b/n a wasa cracker & sardines

Great job with all the V workouts!! I love them because they're so short!! Vertigal was on the exact same cals that I'm on. It does it by weight and the cutoff as it is for the program is 125, so I was just 3lbs above what Shugart will do.
Hey there!
I know long time no hear from huh?
I have been in the land of laziness! I am ready to come out now. I don't know what happened to me but I couldn't get out of the bed.
You sound like you are doing really good with your workouts. You are adding a new routine to your reportoir. I can't keep up with you girl!
I am trying to get my mojo back. At some point I lost it.
Reading your journal helps out alot.
Oh yeah.... I got that IM you sent me. Awwwwwww! It's nice to know I am thought about sometime!!

Modern Family is the funniest show!!!! It reminds me of Arrested Development. It comes on ABC on Wednesday nights and Al Bundy is in it.
I bought these Chocolate Tortilla Chips by FoodShouldTasteGood (love the name) which I found at WFs. You can warm them up and dip in salsa or even put a bit of PB and bananas & honey on them. You really do taste the chocolate. Kind of like a blue corn tortilla chip that tastes like chocolate.. It's strange because I normally can't stop eating chips once I start, but I could with these (which is good cuz I didn't kill it)...maybe the chocolate and less salt made the diff?
I also found this great tasting Rosemary Apricot Chicken Salad from Trader Joe's. It's not heavy on the mayo and great to have in the fridge when you need something in a jiffy.
I got a crook in my neck from sleeping on pillows wrong last Saturday and I haven't worked out since so I've got ants in my pants and I need to dance ....Basically, if I want to look at something I have to turn my body, I can't move my head, and getting in and out of bed has been a BIATCH!! I've been nursing it with an ICY HOT and ibuprofen but recovery has been extremely slow.
I did do some night time rollerblading two days ago but that was it. I'm ready to get back in the gym.
I met a guy and last week we hung out 5 days and 4 of those days we ate out. (He eats out every single day and does no cooking whatsoever...even breakfast.) I also figured I had about 10 - 15 drinks last week as well so this is going to be a challenge for me. I've always viewed eating out as splurge time so I need to make better choices and perhaps find some places that have healthy options if this is going to become the norm instead of the exception. Eating out is a hard one to juggle!!!!

Yeah eating out is such a double-edged sword.. its fun to let loose but people like us just can't stop thinking about the calories! So you're just sitting there on edge, keeping a mental count of every chip that enters your mouth until you've had enough drinks to not care anymore.. not until the next day anyway.
OOOOh I want to see that show! but I think it conflicts with my america's next top model viewing! Which sucks because I love Ed O'Neal and I'm glad to see him back in action.
NEW MAN, EH? exciting!!!!!
OH and I would knock it off with the icy hot! I've learned this from being injured. If you put heat on the injury you're increasing the inflammation in the area. Just use straight up ice.. put it in a plastic bag and place it against the skin for 15 minutes (no more.) It will be uncomfortable as the ice burns but that means its working! I hope its nothing serious!

I make things when I'm not obsessing over my body.
It took me a long time to get over the splurge while eating out desire. Especially with some of the fabulous places I go on expense account. What has helped me is that if I'm eating out the whole day instead of having a mini splurge at every meal (which adds up quick) I'll save it and have one splurge for the day. I normally pick dessert. So I'd have a sensible breakfast lunch and dinner and then have dessert with dinner. Or if I know its going to be a big banquet dinner only do a very light lunch.
If your only doing one meal out, pick one area to splurge on. Instead of having bread, alchol and dessert, just pick one and have a healthy meal. Like if I order a piece of fish a potato and a veggie, I'll allow myself to have the dessert (and not feel like I have to finish it). But if I pick a creamy pasta dish that's my splurge.
When I had the neck injuries from the car accident I had lot of different doctors giving me different opinions on ice or heat. What I got out of it was that initially ice is best to get any swelling to go down, but once it does applying heat increases the blood flow to the area and promotes healing.

Exciting stuff about your new chap! Fitting the eating out around your diet sounds wise if it's going to be so regular- it's not so difficult once you get in the habit of it though. There's maybe a bit of a deprivation feeling, but the desire for a hot body usually overrides that
Fabulous to have someone taking you for meals all week though- sounds like you've found a good'un
