My new toy (Glock 31 .357 sig, PICS)
After 5 years of carrying the same duty weapon, I finally decided to break down and get a Glock.. needless to say, I'm not disappointed.. I still love my Steyr M40 .40 cal tho..
Anybody else have a Glock? If so what do you think of it/them? My next Glock will be the Glock 20 10mm. Does anybody here have any personal experience, or feedback on a 10mm Glock?
Glock 31 .257 sig with 3 high-capacity 15 round magazines
My former carry duty weapon, now my night stand gun, a Steyr M40 .40 cal :

Yes.
It is pure awesome.
Recoil is a bit nasty though.

Yah all the reviews I've read have said it's an awesome firearm, never talked to anybody who's fired one before tho. I would have bought one, but i couldn't find a single store here that had any ammo in, and I'm too impatient to order it.. plus, the $75 per box of 20 hollowpoints is kind of extreme (ball ammo is illegal to carry on duty).

damn, he did get lucky! My unit only issued the Beretta M9 9mm as far as sidearms go, I wasn't too terribly impressed with it.
Kimbers are friggin' aweosme, just way too pricey for me lol.

10mm is a bit overkill for personal protection. I'd HIGHLY recommend it as a backpacking gun (gun you'd use for hiking/fishing against bears and mountain lions) or for novelty sake (it's just fun to shoot). But self-defense? You're best sticking to a more popular caliber.
Most important thing about a personal defense firearm is that you have put several hours in behind it and are very comfortable/familiar with it.
Given how obscure and expensive 10mm is, that is difficult.

Not a huge fan of the .357 sig round, but I am a glock fan.

May wanna consider reloading your own if ur gonna shoot a lot. The price of 357 sig ammo is gonna hurt if you can find it. 10mm and 40 cal. are ballistically similar.

I heard the FBI had gone to the 10mm for a little while after that real nasty gunfight that happened in L.A. with the guys that were all armored up with assault rifles, but then stopped carrying them due to too many complaints from the field agents.. don't know how true that is tho.. The salesman at the store had made a similar statement about using it for hunting as well.. yah, as far as the ammo goes, it sounded nearly impossible to get my hands on it, for even target ammo, which was a huge turn off from the weapon.

Simple to use, easy to strip/clean, accurate, lightweight, reliable. Whats not to love.

I have the G22 and plan to carry the same model when I become a LEO. Why the love for the less popular calibers? Not that there is anything wrong with that, I personally want to own a 357 sig and 45 GAP some time in the future, but for your main weapon I would think that a more popular caliber would be the best way to go especially when you are already familiar with the 40.

Glock 19, like it.
Like my SIGs more, though... like the lighter trigger. I don't really believe the .357SIG has any advantage over a 9mm, but it is ridiculously fun to shoot.

Lol it may be because of "lil man" syndrome
I know a lot of people own .357's but the main thing that intrigued me about the 10mm, is that it's rare, as well as everything I read about it ballistics wise sounded good. I realize the firepower behind it may be a little overkill, I was just looking for something reliable with decent stopping/dropping power, as well as something that everybody else didn't have.

I disagree 100%. Unless we're talking .50 Cal rifle rounds, or a hand grenade, there is NO such thing as over-kill. If you HAVE to shoot someone, the point is to KILL. And a .45 ACP or 10MM will do that BETTER than a 9mm.
Edit: That being said, I would still take a .40 or .45 over a 10mm

Ive carried a glock 23 ccw for about 5 years and love it. I have 8 handguns and carry the glock 80% of the time. you have to get used to the angle of the grip, but once you got that they are money. Also, I picked up a Smith and Wesson M&P this week. my new favorite 9mm. congrats on the Glock!

I just bought a Hi-Point 9mm. I like it but it is harder to control than the Glock.

I agree with you 100% that when it comes to saving one's own life, nothing is overkill (including fighting "dirty" ).. The main drawback I heard as far as possibly being "overkill" with the 10mm, is the fact that the round, even a hollowpoint 10mm round, could possibly pass through a body, or wall (if the shooter missed the threat while firing), and possibly hit an innocent person in the process. I realize that you face that risk with any firearm, but the probability of it happening with a 10mm was quite possible, more-so than with other calibers.

Agreed, I have heard the same thing about slight over-penetration. I just HATE the word "over-kill" when someone starts talking handguns

Correct. A firearm is a tool, merely an extension of one's own body which should be used with extreme maturity and responsibility.
As far as me being a redneck, you fail. On epic proportions.
LMAO @ trying to educate me, a trained and licensed L.E.O. that a firearm is not a toy.. rep'd for teh lulz

Really?
I take it you aren't familiar with over penetration?
You realize innocent people die each year because of improper round/caliber selection?

I agree, but I think of me guns as my toys. I guess its semantics. They are fun and a hobby so sure, I can call them toys. doesn't mean you can disregard safety and how dangerous they can be.

I agree with you on that, shooting is a great hobby, and an awesome way to blow off steam all while staying proficient on your shooting abilities at the same time
But since he used my use of the word "toy" like I would run around with it playing cowboys and Indians, I figured I'd set that description straight.
Besides, I'd rather play cops and robbers (pardon the pun lol)

But since he used my use of the word "toy" like I would run around with it playing cowboys and Indians, I figured I'd set that description straight.
Besides, I'd rather play cops and robbers (pardon the pun lol)

Most people that aren't familiar with firearms or against them all together done't understand those that enjoy them. the vast majority of gun owners, especially those that ccw, take it very serious and are the furthest thing from crazy red-necks.

"Over penetration" and "Over kill" are not interchangable words.
Overkill would be used in the sentance such as this: "Going rabit hunting with a 10mm is overkill."
Over penetration would be used in a sentace like this: "Shooting a human being with a .50 FMJ would certainly result in over penetration."
I appreciate the concern, however, I am quite versed in ammunition selection for personal protection.

You are arguing over semantics.
I regularly post at several gun forums (arfcom, the high road, etc)
Over penetration is very commonly grouped with overkill.
