Sick workout babyslayer, fighting that last rep on 285 was beast. Bad form or not, 285 for reps overhead is strong. 385x5 is some nice benching, the times i have done CG bench after overheads it has been a lot weaker so i would say 405x5 paused, maybe more, is doable fresh.

i think this thread is less for people who have already achieved this and can do it easily, and more for people to try and get to that point, however those are nice lifts for someone your size.

So since this has become the "ask Babyslayer" thread... let me toss one your way.
Let's say I've plateaued on my squats (box squats, I don't like free squatting much) at 455 for a max single or double (depending on how I feel). I think its pretty obvious the reason I've plateaued is because I'm working so close to my max for working reps. ANYWAYS, how would you bust through this? I'm considering either dropping the weight to 405 and working with high reps... like trying to get sets of 10 before moving up in poundage. Either THAT, or changing up my stance on my box squats.... like going with either a wider powerlifitng stance or a **** close diamond type stance where my ankles are close together. That being said, if it were you, babyslayer, which would you do. Take some weight off and work with high reps? Or switch to a new stance and hope you get some carryover.
EDIT: I do do some assistance work, and I'm doing fine with that, just curious about what you'd do with your core exercise in that situation.

Oh yeah beastly pressing, sooner or later your shoulders will be too wide to fit inside the power rack.

id probably do breathing squats, and do
w
1 315x20
2 365x15
3 385x12
4 405x10
5 425x8
6 455x5
7 475x3
8 500x2-3
and if i wasnt wearing knee wraps id do
9 545x2-3 (knee wraps)
10 575-600x1 (knee wraps)
then you could run smolov without knee wraps for 3 weeks with your max set to 520, gain some weight in the process, once the program was over, do another peaking cycle for like 6 worouts,
455xmax reps
500xmax reps
545xmax reps
585x max rep (knee wraps)
635x1 (knee wraps)
650x1 (knee wraps)
thats probably what id do if i wanted to make the fastest progress possible, (just talking about squats, id do assistance stuff to of course, and eat allot)

thanks, everyone now a days has a anti religious stance. I personally dont really believe in god, i just still go to church and all that stuff, in fact today is atonement for me...
so i have to fast (no food or watter) for 24 hours.. but i made sure to eat a ton the day before, and tonight il eat 2 huge meals, and take a extra day off between workouts.
I actually found that band a few days ago from you posting the river dragon song.

Without a doubt my favorite is the river dragon followed by my acid words. I saw them maybe 4-5 years ago with Opeth and Into Eternity (you guys might like Into Eternity). I think their basist has Crohn's disease so they hardly tour anymore or make albums, as far as i know the last one was This Godless Endeavor (the one at the beginning of babyslayer's video).
Babyslayer, honestly do you even fit inside your power rack anymore?

second shoulder workout went fairly well today, although with shoulder press, we have one seated shoulder press and one adjustable bench thing that you can use, but i cant get anything other than like 65lbs off the rack behind me because of the angle my shoulders are at, so i might have to clean the weight off the floor and above my head onto my shoulders then sit down with it. anyways this is my workout for chest/shoulders today
bench press
181x7
shoulder press
77x11
CGBP/extension thing
90x12
tricep pushdown on machine
150x17
db side laterals
22x10
db front raises
27.5x9
im basically following babyslayer's advice of doing one heavy set and increasing the weight, and so far im liking it quite alot

Had a shoulder day on Saturday:
Military press:
5x115
5x135
7x150
Seated db press:
2x10x55s, 2x9x55s
Upright rows:
4x10x100
Lateral raises:
2x10x27.5s, 2x10x25s
I feel like my strength is finally returning even though I'm on this neverending (fail) cut. Hovering around ~210lbs.

so my last two workouts i only took 2 days off between, instead of 3, which is fine i think, but 1 of those 2 days i didnt eat for 24 hours due to religious fasting, so thats probably why todays workout sucked so much dick.
seated shoulder press to chin (you guys know the form)
135x10
225x5
275x3
315x1
355x3 missed 4, was totally off groove but to the power rack hooks being in my way at the top so i had to press the bar through a weird angle to lockout. If my form was right, id have had 4, if i didnt fast, id be hittin 5 or 6. such is life.
close grip bench with a bounce (i find it hits my triceps harder cuz i can lockout more weight)
135x5
225x5
335x9 pr (no belt, wrist wraps, elbow sleeves, etc)
JM presses (wrist wraps and elbow sleeves)
135x5
185x4
225x3
275x5 form wasnt so great on these, but a PR none the less.
overhead extensions (wrist wraps, elbow sleeves, belt)
95x5
135x5
185x4
245x3 PR, as in i have never done this, but im sure in the past i could do more. fresh im stronger than ever on these no doubt.
strict standing presses, all locked out, just a belt, (no wrist wraps, back support, sleeves)
135x5
155x5
175x5
195x5
225x8 triceps were fried, overall some good form work and I think they did me good because i pre exhausted my triceps first.
strict full rom barbell front raises (bar ends up locked out overhead)
65x10
85x10 these felt great, but bothered my shoulder a bit.
I drank 1/3rdgallon strawberry milk while lifting, took 13 bcaa's, drank a 70+ gram whey shake in watter post workout. Then took a ice bath. now im gonna pig out on straw berry yogurt for post workout carbs, maybe pop some more bcaa's, stretch out, and try and eat a ****load for the rest of today and sleep like 12 hours tonight.
next time i train im gonna go for 315 for reps on standing militarys and 405 for reps on pause bench. Should be a bad ass workout.
very soon, if not next time i lift, i will drop the weight on my extensions and seated presses and start peaking all over again. unless of course i suddenly add 10lbs and 1 rep (or something like that) to everything in which case il keep on rollen and see where it gets me.

the best assistance would be working on your arch, if you get a big arch your sticking point would be non existent.
foam rolling for your back, wide stance box squats to get bigger glutes for a bigger decline.
and this stretch
that stretch will help you arch like this
but other than that, id say floor presses lying on something like 1-2 inches high (to make a slightly larger ROM would be perfect. you want to do sticking point training starting right bellow the sticking point, so that you train the actual rom where the sticking point is.
chain bench, or band bench, or both, would also be good because it would teach you to explode off your chest and there for create enough momentum to get through the sticking point.
board presses right bellow your sticking point may also do the trick, perhaps even pause benching to make you stronger off your chest, so that you can get more momentum off your chest to get past your sticking point.
back work to help you off your chest, leg drive to help you off your chest.
there is also a TON to be said for technique, proper arch, proper leg drive, squeezing the bar as hard as you can, involving your lats in the lift, pressing and lowering the bar through the proper path, rotating your elbows back to lockout etc. with powerlifting form you might find your sticking points are completley different.
everything works, nothing works forever, when you really think about it, the best way to hit your sticking point on bench, is just to bench.
