train as often as recovery allows, if i could train chest every day and recover from it fine, id be doing my self a diservice by not doing it.

You were probably doing low volume though?
If he's doing the volume of a typical "chest day" I'm pretty sure every day would be horrible.
2 days a week is good

than you might as well do the same thing for every body part in which case your routine is going to turn into a full body strength based routine which uses low volume and high frequency which is the whole point my post above is trying to make.
there is an inverse relationship between frequency and volume

training often, with volume, will condition your body to be able to handle a greater work load, and will condition your body to recover faster. this is why a new lifter trains legs once and hurts for a week, and a more advanced lifter can squat 4 days a week on smolov and not even have sore legs. your body adapts, only to a point of course.
so then you have to ask, if someone can train heavier, with with more volume than you, and they can recover faster than you can, so there for train more often, will their gains be faster, all else created equal?
YES.
when you think about it steroids allow you to use more weight/reps/volume and recover faster, this is basically what you would be achieving (to a point) by conditioning your body like i wrote about.
of course it doesnt work for everyone, but thats what some olympic lifters used to do, and still do as far as i know. and louie simmons (powerlifting guru) is always talking about doing extra workouts to increase GPP to speed up recovery and condition your self for faster recovery/allow you to do more overall work.
