Can I make my waist smaller?
I think I know the answer to this and I'll probably get flamed but it's worth the risk.
Years of squats and deadlifts (or not) seem to have made my waist big.
I used to have a 32 inch waist at a similar bodyfat.
Now I'm much bigger but my waist is at least 36 inches.

I've searched and cant find any way of making it smaller.
I'm guessing I cant but if anyone has any ideas etc I'd appreciate it.
If I'm stuck with it. Will it continue to get bigger if I carry on squatting? Should I carry on squatting or should I drop it? If it's gonna stay the same I can live with it but if it's gonna carry on getting bigger I'll stop deads and squats.
Cheers

Seb, no disrespect but is it muscle there or hard fat? I can't tell from the photos.
Some ideas:
1. Change the way you squat: close stance, heels raised
2. Change the way you deadlift: stiff legged instead of bent legged
3. Do leg presses, hacks, leg ext, curl etc instead of SQs and DLs.

I thought raising your heels during squats kills your knees.

Cheers for the responses guys,
There's definately some fat there but not enough for me to worry about at the moment, it's less than most people in the gym etc, you can see my abs and my main goal for 2009 is building muscle (everywhere apart from my waist).
After christmas if I reach my size goals I'll cut and I'll probably lose a couple of inches off my waist. It'll still be big though.
I've been playing around with the idea off vacums but I'm not very good at them. I'll do some searches.
Squats and deadlifts are so good at building everywhere else I dont want to drop them unless I know its going to continue to cause my waist problems.

I do them. I find they help slim my waist a little during a cut and help keep it under control when bulking. My waist is fairly small in the first place though (33" at 6'2" height)

Bottom line is abs grow just like the rest of your body....
Stomach vacuums DO work but not for the obliques
Best thing is to (obviously you already trying this) is get bigger lats and shoulder width
Anyways dont worry you look ****in good (no homo) Chicks dig the "melvins" anyways (i dont know if this is a universal term but its when your obliques are wide and make a V down towards.... whatever you get the point)
