Depends on your definition of once in a while, but no it isn't that bad. Also depends on how much you are eating there.

Looking at their menu, some of the fresco style items are not bad at all.

I tried that for a "cheat" meal. It's very overrated... in fact, I didn't think it was that good at all. Their Fresco stuff is good though.

Pasta, taco bell, twinkies, chocolate, butter and even pure fat aren't that bad once in a while. If you can preserve your muscle mass, create a caloric deficit and eat what you want it doesn't really matter unless you're concerned with other issues.

Taco Bell Fresco Menu for President!
Every fastfood joint has plenty of BAD selection and GOOD ones. Taco Bell's Fresco menu is you best way to go...High in Protein...lowest calorie food they have.
All they do is replace the cheese and cream cheese with Pico de gallo (uncooked chopped tomato & Onions) sauce. Its about 100 calories less.

Yeah, their Fresco menu may not be too bad, but look at the sodium content: sometimes 2 items from that menu would make you hit your daily sodium intake limit.

Yep, as I said, half of their Fresco items (which also happen to be items that I would normally pick because others are too small to sate me) have over 1,200mg of sodium.
For eg, if I was not aware of sodium content I'd get:
Fresco Burrito Supreme - Chicken and maybe Fresco Ranchero Chicken Soft Taco
About 500 calories, but over 2,000mg of sodium..
Probably, better than regular Taco Hell items, but still would not eat away from Fresco menu thinking it is super healthy.

I am just very aware of the sodium issue because of what happened to me. I am 28 years old and used to eat "average" amount of junk food. (On healthy days I would eat tuna sandwich from subway (lol) and Taco Bell was one of my favorites on regular days).
I am in good health I would say but my doctor told my blood pressure was a little high, so I started measuring it regularly and noticed most of the time it was between 130-145 and 140+ is when you start 'treating' it. So it was elevated.
What did my doctor do? Oh, without saying a word about sodium or proper dieting he gave me freebie pills that "I should try" and if it works I'd have to be on those pills for the rest of my life. Yay.
About 6 weeks ago when I started dieting to cut some fat and eating healthy I inadvertently started eating less sodium.
Now, my blood pressure is always between 110 and 125. In mere few weeks of proper eating I dropped it to healthy limits without any pills.
So watch your sodium! Your cardiovascular system will thank you when you're older.

When I first started cutting i would go there once a week or so. Just look on their website and see has the lower calories and buy that.
i wasnt that satisfying for the clories so i stopped going.
As long as you factor ir into your calories then it ok.

I love their food but it is not filling to me for some reason. Also, their healthy-ish menu items don't compare to the unhealthy ones in taste, and if I'm already eating at Taco Bell I'm going to be eating the bad stuff haha...

^^^ ditto
I eat there maybe once a month, its ok, not my fav cheat meal. Had a meximelt, 1/2 burrito and one other thing last week. I used to order like 5 things before I started working out and changing my life. Now I can barely finish 2 things without feeling stuffed.
I tried the fresco stuff once but screw it, if I am eating that I might as well do it right.

I like the fresco stuff, its a decent alternative when I find my self in a situation where I have to eat out.
I also loved the chili cheese burritos, I would eat 3-4 every time.
