Well I arrived at the affirmation conference. When I walked in I felt incredibly out of place. I registered and I could tell right off that this is not how I pictured a gay conference. In my gay conference fantasy all the guys are hot and in shape. This group could actually turn me straight. I didn't mean that as harsh as it sounds. (I also wasn't coming looking to hook up so it didn't matter).

I guess I hoped that I would come here and at least feel that I belonged. My initial impression was that I just don't fit here. But then again I don't feel like I fit anywhere.

On a positive note, they had a concert last night. There was an awesome duo Jason and deMarko they are a gay couple that perform. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ivt4aMTB1GI sorry I don't know how to embed yet.

My oldest son Jake came with me to the concert. I really appreciated that he would go with me. I was proud to have my handsome 24 year old sone with me. I kept feeling the need to say he is my son so they didn't think something else. But I didn't we just laughed to ourselves.

One thing I realized is that it takes work being gay, you guys have alot more style down. I needed the bb.com fashion gurus to dress me for this. One more funny part is my truck out in the parking lot among all the little gay cars is my Ford truck with a 5 inch lift and 35 tires. It looks rediculous here. Or rather it looks as awkward as I feel.

I kind of disagree. If other people have expectations because of your sexuality that you might not live up to... well, sucks to them. Dress how you like to dress. Being gay doesn't mean you're required to be stylish or required to have a petite expensive car. How you dress and what kind of car you drive (and other similar things) are superficial choices and nobody has the right to make you feel awkward or ashamed of them. If someone is going to judge you for them, it reflects a lot more negatively on them than on you (which it doesn't at all).

Well, it sounds like you've been spoiled by all the hotness of 'the gay thread (part 3)'

From what I've seen, most of the hot/inshape guys don't go to 'activist' type groups...there are a few, but that's not really where you go if you're looking for a group of hot guys.

You'll eventually find your niche. There are all sorts of different scenes/crowds that you can check out...you just might have to travel a little bit :-/ Also, I wouldn't worry about the 'style' thing. I stopped caring a long time ago, and I'm better for it. IMO, the fit is more important than the brand. 90% of the time, I'm wearing a tshirt that I got for under $10. Although, I think you would look pretty hot w/ a thick leather wrist band. They're like 10 bucks at hot topic.

UPDATE on my search:

Well, I found out that the guy I contacted knows the guy I'm looking for...the only problem is that he hasn't really indicated that he'll help me out. I sent an email asking if he could get me in contact w/ him, or let him know I'm trying to get in touch w/ him. However, I haven't got a response...the only thing I can optimisticly guess is that he is trying to get in touch w/ the guy I'm looking for and hasn't been able to just yet. I'll probably give it the weekend, but if I don't hear back I'll just give up and move on.

EDIT: I just got a reply...he only knows him socially but said he will tell him the next time he sees him. Oh well, can't say I didn't try.

I just had a gentleman caller this afternoon. His name is "Brad" and he drove three hours to see me. He's somewhat attractive and a damn fine kisser, but there's something about him that puts me off. He kept pushing for a relationship. I reminded him twice that only lesbians show to the first date with a U-Haul. He just laughed and then repeated his question.

Why would a guy be so desperate for a relationship?

I told him that we'd have to see where this goes and find out more about each other before we go there. I don't want to promise I'll be his boyfriend, then go home with someone else. At the same time, I am not able to fully commit to him because of the impending contest and going back to school (yay!). I honestly don't know what to tell him to make him back off a little. It's too soon to be suffocating and insisting on a relationship.

He even asked me "So what you do think of this relationship so far?" I responded, "Well, we don't hate each other YET, so that's a good sign." He thinks I'm hilarious and loves my odd sense of humour. Not a bad guy, but I don't know if I want a second date. He came on more than a little strong. What would be the right thing to tell him?

I'd run...every guy that brings up a relationship that soon is trying to 'fix' something. They think that a relationship will fix or fill whatever deficiency they have.

Thank you... it's an awkward pic, it was kind of hard to balance my iphone, pose, make sure i could see the shutter button, frame the shot in my small mirror, etc. all at the same time.

Ok so basically in these days of self reflection, I've discovered that I'm a relationship whore. Yeah, I want a relationship. The sex is important, but the affective connections is a must. But, I also learned that a relationship is something you build in time and with a lot of effort required from both parties. It is a mutual thing. Not something that one side can just decide one day or force upon the other. It is a slow process that bring two people together.

With that said, I think this guy is very insecure. Maybe he's a very affectionate person and needs that label in place to really come out of his shell and be the loving partner he wants to be. On the other hand, he could just be delusional and needs that "security blanket" to justify his actions.

My question is, if you forget about the relationship stuff, how much did you like him? If you did find him interesting, maybe you should give him another chance. If it is insecurity, it may vanish as he gets more comfortable with you.
But, as I said, it's up to you. If you just don't feel it, then end it. No reason to waste anyone's time. Oh and if that's your decision, do discuss it with him, there is nothing ruder than ending any type of interaction by just ignoring the other person.

Agreed. Some have given the advice "RUN!" and I agree with that too. Someone who wants a relationship IMMEDIATELY has issues that he thinks a relationship will fix--but it won't. And it will sabotage the relationship.

I am not a fan of the run yet. I think the guy is just being weird. I think there is something that doesn't make sense in yet. The is a missing piece of information that I am just not seeing.

What do you want from the guy that is the real question?

Just be firm with your boundaries and communicate your relationship needs to him. Be straight up with him, and say you need this, and this is where you life is going, this is what you are looking for, etc. If I were you I would tell him that you are dating him to evaluate him and your relationship dynamics for the potential of a relationship right now. I would be honest and tell him you don't know him well enough to be in a relationship with him yet. But that is just me. For me it is more important to be seen as an ******* that is honest about what he is looking for than an ******* that leds someone on.

I think you made the right decision to slow it down, but not to sound cliche, I believe that you instantly know if there is something there for both of you from the the first date. Even if it's something to just try a relationship otherwise just have fun together but be clear that it's a friendship with benefits..
