Advice for a technique in sparring
So last night at mma we were doin kickboxing, and wen it came to sparring my luck I got put with an amateur kickboxing champ, we wernt alound takedowns, I got some good kicks in and a few straight punches,
but my question is wen they're throwing punches fast and ur guarding with the biggest oz boxing gloves on wat would u do, so ur on the corner exchanging knee shots but I found it hard to fight back without takedowns wen he was bombarding my guard with punches, wat would u do
cheers

Don't fight in their arena. If he wants to rule the arena of punching, don't play his game. I'd wrap his legs up. Take his focus off his punches when he thinks he has the upper hand. You can take his balance for a moment, throw a low jab and you've created an opening for a submission.

Most people don't properly uppercut. They overextend and are far too slow. If your opponent is assailing you with jabs, chances are you won't be able to throw a proper uppercut.

Yea that's normally wat I would have done as Im bigger use a takedown but it was striking sparring, so hard to match his speed, I had 22lbs on him but had to use the kick straight to keep him at arms length

There should be no bombarding of punches...
...sparring is where you learn.
Always move sideways and not back...
...body shots, no one expects body shots.

It was insanely hard to land punches, I got a few jabs in and a few rib kicks, I had him in a headlock at one point and he was stamping on my feet to get out lol but toe to toe punching was impossible

Good advice man although kickboxers jus tend to stand still and pivot, thinking back I wish I'd have risked a few jabs to try land a hook on him

Tell me bout it especially after 8 mins I was literally dead, it was very hard to dodge the shots as we were close it wasn't like the odd jab his punches had no power really but cos we were so close trying to land on a fast puncher all I could do was clinch and the odd rib kick

work on your cardio, just keep moving ur feet, he cant hit u if your out of his reach, dont go in close till your ready to throw a few, keep your head back, work of your balance an flexibility so that you can move ur head in any direction without losing balance
