Biggest Loser
This is a bit of a rant....the drama that they like to put on TV is not reality at all. They don't show the fact trainers put people's health first and foremost. We know when to stop and how hard to push people. They want the show to be dramatic, so they show the drama and I'm sure they have the people add to it for effect. If trainers around the country try to copy what they see on this show....it could lead to someones death. Furthermore, it makes trainers look pretty mean.

I'll admit the show is a guilty pleasure for me. I love seeing people drastically change their bodies through blood, sweat, and tears. The before and afters on some people are just amazing.
Some of those people have let themselves go so far they need a "mean" person to kick them in the @ss. On the other hand that approach wouldn't be the best approach for everyone and I can see how it would intimidate some people who have never used a trainer.

That's funny. My dream is to have Jillian train me for one session. She might be what I need to take the next step. I always think back to a couple of seasons ago when she yelled at a guy "take those hands off the treadmill or I'll tear off your arms and beat you in the head with them". Maybe I'm a little ill but that is funny!!

Thoose people on that show are pathetic....not one of thoose trainers pushed anyone to far last night. that girl who "passed" out on the beach was fine, she was just being a drama queen and telling herself she cant. Of course they are going to keep her in the hospital for observation just to simply protect their butts. Asking someone to walk a 20min. mile is by far, not pushing someone to hard.

A fun show to watch. I noticed they use a 24hr fitness facility. I thought they had the no grunting, cussing or judging alarm. I never heard it once last night. I guess J didn't throw the f -bomb enough to trigger the alarm.
BTW, I wholeheartily agree with Mavrick. The only one that impressed me the slightest was the out of shape coach.

The new season started? I missed last winters. I'll have to catch the episode online.
The season I watched alot, the guy (a cop) on 14 different meds was always being checked out by their staff and ended up on zero meds by the time he hit maintenance weight! It was amazing!

I have to admit, I have Jillian's frontside/backside work out dvds. They are awesome. I have her 30 day cut dvd as well. It supposed to be brutal. I'll have to take off the plastic and use it next week when I'm off work. She's tough, but seems 'nicer' in her videos. Very motivating, less drill sergant. I think her approach is good on the show because people lack structure and she's trying to turn them around.

I use to watch it a lot more, now I barely do. I enjoy watching the transformations and such... But, I'm not liking the spontaneous infomercials during the show.
"what are you eating?"
"I'm trying this new ____ from ____, it only has 2 calories, comes in 482 different flavours and really tastes great!"
LoL And I agree, they edit it to make it much more dramatic because, "that's what people want" Personally *shrugs* I'd watch it more if it wasn't Soooo dramatic and a bit contrived (did I say a bit) Still watch it when I come across it though

I agree^^^
If I was a trainer and someone came to me way overweight and said they wanted me to train them everyday for 8hrs/day I would do the same thing. Maybe even harder. Any less and your not doing them any favors.

Guilty Pleasure
I agree, the show is a guilty pleasure. It is one of the few shows I watch and I really find the show inspiring. While the show has an agenda at times, and is heavy on product placement--the transformations are real. It is great to see real people capable of getting real results through hard work.

The transformations on the show are great. The show is getting a little "long in the tooth" all teh crying and fake drama and oh pity me is getting old. Last season there was a blonde girl (forgot) her name already that did not win but shoud have. She was the only one with the right attitude (imho).

I'd rather watch a show about an average healthy individual becoming a sculpted natural bodybuilding contender.
There's too much hype in watching overweight people becoming thin; I should know, I unfortunately was one of those people.

The show has a great concept. Most of these people need to be pushed as hard as they do as they got in most cases very horid shape. Like any reality show they have to give it some drama to keep the everyday TV junkie happy. I watched the first few seasons but after a while it just seemed like a rerun.

They only touch on diest too when that is clearly going to be the key for these people.
I think they scare people away from the gym becuase people who never go now see that it is just going to be torture and crying.
I used to weigh 320 lbs and I never cried about it. I thought it was funny. Unhealthy but funny. I got that was from guzzling beer and eating burritos. I never once cried about it. I put on alot of weight after my wife left becuase i was partying every weekend. I mean every weekend.
My Mom was talking about my ex one day and she said, "whats it been, 3 years since she left?" Wow, I had been partying for 3 solid years, every weekend and some weekdays. Thats pretty impressive.
I made the change for me health.
I would like to see them follow around normal people who have jobs and kids and unsupportive spouses. That would be somethig if they lost in that environment like the rest of us do.

I have one of Jillian's book and she states how she hates how they always focus on her kicking them in the @ss and not show the other 95%. It's a show and America loves drama. It's more to fulfill the American appetitie.
I'm glad they take obese people and run them through this. It can only motivate others to do the same.
Jillian is the sh**

I have mixed feelings on the show, but in the end, I think it does a good thing. Frankly, as someone who's struggled with his weight and has been involved recovery groups, I think the group aspect of these folks' training (or recovery) is what is so engaging. To watch these folks pull together and work and feel for each other (particularly when compared with the other "cut throat" reality shows) is what gives Biggest Loser its mojo ..

they must exercise 10 hours a day while munching only carrots and celery in order to lose as much as they do.
I think it sets up unrealistic expectations for people watching the show. Average Joe goes on a plan to lose weight and gives up because he only loses 1lb a week vs the 8-10 they lose! I can't figure out how they lose that much...8lbs is a 28,000 calorie deficit.

I know one of the winners of that show personally.
You'd be amazed at the lengths they went to win, chemically speaking
