I'm just starting a workout routine, what do you think of it?
I am 18 (6 foot and about 135 lbs.) and I haven't worked out so much in the past, but now I want to start up a routine. Do you think this routine sounds good?
Sunday: cardio
Monday: arms and abs
Tuesday: free
Wednesday: chest and abs
Thursday: free
Friday: back and abs
Saturday:legs
I also have a question about protein shakes. When is the best time to drink one: right before my workout, right after my workout, or the day after my workout when my muscles that I worked out start feeling sore? Assume that I can only drink one during this time, so only pick the one best time of those 3.
Thanks.

No, no, and no.
Look up Starting Strength it was made for a guy like you. If you don' want to do that anything from the workout sticky wold help but a close second would be All pro's beginners routine.
Protein shakes are a food suppliment, th best time to drink one is when you need more protein in your alread good solid diet.

personaly i think your workout should go from your arms to your chest to your abs then to your lower half followed by cardio. At least that is how i was taught to train and its been working out pretty good for me but you have an awsome workout plan good luck

Right after your workout drink the protein shake within 30-60 mins. On your free days you could do cardio as well, nothing serious maybe a brisk job but getting out there helps. One thing though, you don't necessarily need to be taking in protein shakes your first few weeks in a routine, a glass or two of low-fat milk would suffice just enough.

As the 2nd poster said, you should check the first sticky. I remember when I first started lifting, I thought my workout routine was flawless. I worked with it for a few months and saw "ok" gains. Once I found a proven-to-work beginners schedule, I saw almost double the gains.
In response to your protein shakes, if you can only drink one protein shake a day, I would recommend drinking it right after your workout.

Your workout plan is awful. Go with something that is proven to work in the stickies. That way in 3 months when you come back and make another post reading "Im not growing" we don't have to tell you again that your designed program is awful.

because i dont know you and what works best for you to build muscle, i wont presume to write a program that will garuntee you results. But i can give universal advice which will work no matter the person-
three basic elements of building muscle- nutrition (this is the bricks of the building which is your body) rest (this is when your body repairs itself and adapts) and training (overloading the muscles to create microtears)
Less is more- Just because you can work out every day doesnt mean you should. This is dependant on the person, but a common misconception is the more often you work out, the bigger you get. This is where it gets personal, because everyones body recovers at different speed-and it also depends on how hard you worked yourself- google supercompensation theory and have a look at that. I went from working out 5 days a week and getting little results to working out 3 days a week and making my plan an extremely intense workout and i got massive results- for you, work out what is adequate rest for your body and plan around that. Muscles dont know the days of the week. be consistent to your program and listen to your body.
in relation to your program id change it to a 3 day a week or a 4 day a week program, depending on how long you need to rest. remember to get your diet tight- i cant stress this enough. Then do a workout which you consider to be challenging and find out how long it takes for your body to recover from that- then make a plan.
Drink your protein shake after your workout- remember that you cant absorb much more than 10g/hr if it is whey protein, so if its about 30 g's of protein then your better off using half a scoop then and have some food with it and then about 1hr 1/2 later having the rest of the scoop.
The best supplement is excellent nutrition, adequate rest and consistency. If you need any advice PM me
