Refs should say before the bell and go back to the corners, that if they want to touch gloves, they do it at the stare down and not after the bell.
thing is, ive done this in my klast fight...touch gloves when being given final instructions and return to the corner, you still touch gloves respectfully after the bell though, surely thats a well known ettiquette?

Completely disrespectful and unsportsmanlike. The guy is obviously a douchebag not only from the sucker punch but from the interview after. Hopefully something is done to punish him for being a piece of crap. The fans obviously didn't like that move and I think he pretty much solidified himself as the sucker puncher for the rest of his MMA career.
okay picture a flying armbar like that is pretty funny. A standing arm triangle would be ridiculous.
On a side note I don't recommend flying armbars. i nearly lost a grappling match trying one. landed right on my head and knocked myself silly. Recovered and won n points. Also watched my team mate Julie knock herself in the absolute finals with a flying armbar.
Yeah if you don't do them correctly it may turn in to a bad situation. Just because you failed at it I don't see why you would recommend against doing one in general though.

IMO you dont touch gloves at the beginning of the fight. you're not out there for male bonding, you're in a real fight where the other guy wants to take your head off. does anyone ever see a couple of bar brawlers shake hands before they start duking it out? save the touch gloves for when its over.

i didnt say they had to have animosity, and i agree - i was saying keep their hands up instead of touching at the bell. that guy in the video is a douche; he's a reason fighters might stop touching gloves altogether. everyone is going to be looking for it from now on

So how long after you touch gloves are you suppose to wait?
You don't even have to touch gloves. The instructions CLEARLY state "Protect yourself at all times and come out fighting"
"Sucker" punches in MMA can't happen after the bell..
This is just like someone who takes an eye gouge, sure, he can cover up his eye with both hands, and if the ref doesn't stop it, what do you do? You beat the living piss out of him until the ref does stop it....

lol you're clueless if you see nothing wrong with what that guy did. It's common practice among professional fighters to touch gloves and wait a few seconds until they're both set. He put his hand out, indicating to the other fighter that he was about to engage in this common courtesy, but then he violated it by throwing a quick punch.
Anyone condoning this fighter's behavior is probably as clueless and idiotic as the fighter himself.
It was classless but the other fighter should have been prepared. I cannot believe he is not in the red. Oh and I forgot to add he is also an idiot.
