Depends on you, really.
Some people get really sore at the site of injection.
Some people get what is essentially a mild form of the flu.
Some people have no reaction.
Do you feel like you're high risk? Why would you get one now when you haven't ever before?

I have a kid in kindergarten. I was thinking the family would get one. My husband says he would rather save his for the old people... I think he forgets what being sick is like. We have our own business and can't really afford 'down time'.

I've known a few people who got really sick and felt really really bad after getting the flu shot.
Screw that, I'll drink Emergen-C when there is a high risk and hope my immune system does it's job. FYI have not had the flu in years though.

Just got back from the pediatrician with my older son for his annual physical. My kids get them every year because of their environment. In talking with the pediatrician, I am now going to get one this year. He said that this year is going to be a bad year for it and there are some particularly nasty strains.

I use to get it each year as my work does them for free, and for the 3 years i had it i was sick pretty much most of winter. Since I stopped getting it, (excluding this year) I havent been sick..
It works differently on each person tho, so give it ago and if the results are good then continue next year...

I got the flu last year so I'm getting a shot this year. Last year I had the flu and strep at the same time, so if I can prevent one or the other, I'm going to. My coworkers have small children, and I'm around a lot of people who work at a hospital.

I haven't been sick in a long long time. I usually take some echinacea and garlic when I first feel bad and it goes away. Already the kid has had a runny nose for a week and it started right when she went back to school. Maybe I'll just look at her getting one.

I hve had the shot twice, both years I have gotten SICK. The years I haven't had the shot, I get your simple cold/sore throat which at least means I'm up and about. I'll never get the flu shot again and I work in a hospital setting, with kids, who bring in everything.

I've gotten it ever since I graduated college and entered the workforce. (I am a SAHM now though - but still get it). I did skip when I was pregnant with my first son and got the Flu and it sucked. I never got the flu when I had the shot.
Supposedly you can still get the flu when you get the shot - but it is supposed to be less severe.
And I do get the shot for my kids.
But I am not in a rush to get a Swine Flu shot that hasn't been thoroughly tested just so we can "get it out there". KWIM?

Yeah, but a lot of people I've known got it very severe after getting the shot, at least one claims they got it directly from the shot somehow. Chances are they could have gotten it from someone sick in the doctors office though.
I guess it all depends, if you are prone to getting the flu every year and the shot continuously works go for it. I rarely get the flu (it's probably been well over 5 years). For someone who doesn't get the flu frequently I would NOT suggest getting the shot just to experiment. All in all it's a gamble either way I suppose.
Last time I was vaccinated for anything it was a meningitis shot (required for college). My body somehow had an adverse reaction due to my blood sugar being low, as I was walking out the place I suddenly got dizzy/weak then passed out and hit the floor. Ever since then I am VERY reluctant to get vaccinated for anything unless I absolutely have to. Supposedly that's fairly common among males according to my doctor though.
My policy is avoid doctors/hospitals and medications/vaccinations at all costs. For one because very sick people tend to frequent those places. Another is I don't really trust medications/vaccinations that much, ya know after new studies or something they find certain things that they've been advocating all along are extremely harmful or something, and lastly, because sometimes doctors screw up.
Btw I should also add I tend to be very very sanitary I make sure I have adequate nutrition/vitamins. I don't eat or drink after anyone, I don't kiss people (No S/O), I rarely give hugs, I either wash my hands every hour or so, or use hand sanitizer, etc. Just the little things you may want to start doing if you don't already that may help.

I get the flu shot every year because I have a suppressed immune system. I haven't gotten the flu once since I started taking the shot, but I'm still sick basically all winter from colds and sinus stuff. sux.

be careful
I know some people will probably strongly disagree with this but the flu shot is a BAD idea..there is an article on Mercola.com about some of the side effects. (sorry can't post link because I do not have enough posts)
This is just my opininon but from personal experience I would think twice about getting the vaccine, also, this vaccine contains themerisol (mercury derivative).

Well...no shot for now. Kid has 'something' where she's had a 100-102 fever for 3 days. Great holiday weekend. Going to the doc today.

Never got one, and my son's pediatrician never suggested any flu shots for him.

I would not consider Mercola.com to be a trustworthy source regarding medical information. That said, even if there are side effects - aren't there possible side effects for everything? The side effects you can have from a flu shot are flu like symptoms, (after all, it is designed to mimic the flu to create immunity), soreness at the injection site, and there's always a possibility of an allergic reaction as with anything.
By the way, the flu vaccine is a dead vaccine. That means there is absolutely no way to get the actual flu from the shot, maybe a polio shot, but not a flu shot. The vaccine strain is the predicted influenza strain for the year, not the known, the predicted.

My son had one last year because the flu can be deadly for children 2 and under. I got one the first winter he was born, but not the last one because I was flat on my ass sick for 2 weeks after the shot. I say it was the flu and it was cause by the shot. lol
I think, as with any vaccination, it depends on the person. I don't know that I will ever get one again given my last experience, but my Mom and Grandma get one every year and it works for them.

Why not get the Flu Mist unless you have asthma? I already had it this year with no adverse reactions unlike past years where I ended up with runny nose and congestion for days. My coworkers said the same thing. We are in the medical field and got it 2 weeks ago.
We get the swine flu in the coming weeks, guinea pigs for the world... yippeeee. *sarcasm*
