I love keto. It helps me not to eat carbs/sugar. I am a very sweet tooth person and, unless I am on keto I want to eat tons of chocolate. That's wat causes me to gain weight. I am so much better of keto than anything else honestly. Helped me lose 20 lbs so far too

Keto is the bomb!!! I lost 120lbs on the diet. I still use it in my off season when I'm not training for my marathons or triathlons. In the regular season, I still low carb, but i cycle. It helps me with my events. But, I still love Keto. By far of ALL the diets I had tried, Keto did it for me, and I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to lose a good amount of weight. Good thing about keto is its a diet you can tweak it to your likes/dislikes of food. I never calorie counted, and loved it! Questions, just ask. :-)

Don't you have to still eat at a caloric deficit on keto, while you are cutting?

Hey FB, when you say you didnt count calories is there anything you were counting on the diet? Was it just green veggies, meat and cheese, or were you worried about cholesterol, saturated/unsaturated fat?
Im asking because the diet seems to be eat as much no carb veggies, meat and cheese as you want. just dont eat fruit or carbs/take supplements for vitamins.

keto is by far the worst thing that's ever happened to me.
you have to SERIOUSLY count your calories, as it's a high calorie diet, in nature (65% fats... & 1 gram of fat = NINE calories...opposed to ONLY four calories for carbs...& protein.)
i don't even like most keto foods. =S
fruit foreverrrrrrrrrrr!
when i was on this high calorie diet, i gained fat. when i went off of this high calorie diet & onto a lower calorie eating plan, i lost fat.

I LOVE it. I only count calories because I find it much too easy to not get enough to eat. I'm not a big fan of the diet itself, but mostly because I like more variety, not that I don't like the foods per se. The lack of variety, to me, is the only major downside.
I have more energy, lift more, sleep better, feel better, and look better. But, everyone is different.

Yeah, and it's even more important to do so on keto because so many of the foods you're eating are high in fat and thus, (often) higher in calorie. High fat foods are often more satiating though, so you might find you get full faster than when your diet is carb heavy.

Keto works quick but if you do it wrong, you will only loose weight - not change your body comp. If you do it right, it's a pain in the ass and will put you on a blood sugar rollercoaster ride as you will by Cycling carbs during the week - something on the idea of CKD.
I think the carb cycling thing is good for brief, critical times, such as the last 4-6 weeks of a contest diet. That's not enough time to loose considerable muscle but it will help get the last 1%-2% body fat off.
For most people trying to loose that Holiday 20, a low "measured" carb approach works better, it just takes longer to get there. But, you maintain some muscle glycogen, muscle pumps in the gym are much better and your strength is maintained, which, if you're at a calorie deficit, it critical for maintaining muscle mass.
I know some Keto guru will probably post some scientific study to dispute what I just said and I really don't care. I can only tell you what my experience as well as MANY others who compete is with keto. Keto looks reallly nice on paper but if a positive change in body comp (and not just weight loss) is your goal, it seldom works as advertised.

I wouldn't necessarily say im a success story so far, but I lost 17 lbs on keto in my first month.. Its disputable to how much of it is actually water and how much of it is actually fat.
It's just more appealing to know that I am losing fat + water weight instead of muscle + water + fat weight like on most conventional deficit diets..

How did you calculate your protein and fat intake?
Do you base it off of your maintenance minus 500 cals?

Keto sucked for me. I wouldn't recommend it unless you have trouble losing weight with more balanced diets.

Been on it about 3 wks now, and prior to that I was doing my normal thing for a couple wks.
I used these forums and alot of outside sources to dig up all the info I could and create a keto setup that worked for myself. So far I have dropped about 15 lbs, and give about 5lbs of that to the keto setup. Keep in mind at the same time I restarted my gym workouts after a near 2 yrs lapse, and I don't mean a few isolations, I mean a pile of compound core lifts every-other-day. Toss in the creatine load and I might have actually "lost" another 10lbs already.
Like others have said keto works, but your results are like anything ...based on how much time and effort you wanna put into the calorie and macro counting. I actually have every calorie I take in setup in a spreadsheet and I can custom create/plot each days numbers and track what I am taking when, and compare days/wks as they go by.
If done correctly this "diet" should spare 99% of your lean muscle mass while cutting.
I was already eating at near keto levels and suspect I was actually in ketosis quite a bit of the time before I actually started to track it. I was eating a natural whole food diet with a very low amount of carbs taken on the back end of meals, basically I was keeping my insulin in the basement. After a gym workout I would and still do slam a shake w/ 30g or of dextrose to spike insulin for upload into the muscles, other than that its only complex carbs, usually green fiber vegs w/ meals. So, for me it wasnt really much of a change...I just cut out the occasional sweet potato or fruit I might have eaten at the end of my meals and instead take in a bit more fat.
There are alot of great threads already on the site for keto, even a couple stickies ...suggest u use the search feature and gluck

It's all right here, 1.5 x weight = protein intake
.5 x weight = fat intake,
less than 40 grams of carbs per day.
I took his template for the meal plan and adjusted it for my macros. Took a little planning the first day, but after that you just eat the same **** everyday, do some walking for cardio (no running) and you are straight.
The calories line themselves up with this simple equation. You end up roughly being around 500 below your maintenance that way automatically.
