How do you like it?
Do you use any concepts from HS in the Dental work?
How many hours of sleep do you get?
Are you in it for the cash?

What made you choose dental? My uncle is pushing my to that (he's been a super successful ortho), but I can't see much satisfaction out of it...I've hated all of my dentists lol.

Agreed, if you really think you can get through med school and make the grades and be a successful doctor (like I did, b/c Ik I can, I have my moms brain lolz)...if you think that, then you'll prolly be successful at most things you do especially if you are passionate about it. Im going into Marketing...lots of places that degree and MBA can take you.

Ortho is a VERY competitive specialty. You've basically got to be in the top 10-15% of your class to get an ortho residency. Plus, a surgeon's hours are straight up horrendous. Yeah you may be making $600K a year, but you'll never have the time to enjoy it.
|
You could join a team with lots of surgeons then you get flexible hours.
My friends dad is an anesthesiologist and makes 600+ very good hours too, I've heard that's one of the more easier jobs in medicine.

Anyways, I gathered some good info, it's still a toss up for me. I think I am going to see which subject I grasp better Sciences or English/Law. The thing is in Medical work you can work anyways. It seems in Law you learn that countries laws and can work within that countries laws. Iunno. **** I NEED TO PICK SOMETHING QUICK.

Did you mean Medical you can work anywhere? Because you cant....you have to be 1) licensed in the country of which you work then 2) licensed in the state of which you work. You have to renew those also every so often.

I'm honestly THIS close to negging you for this ****.
You go into medicine because you love science and you care about patients. After you've paid your dues in college, medical school, residency, and fellowship, THEN you can go and buy some nice toys if you so choose. Medicine is waaay more than just a job.
It's good to have aspirations, but don't go out trying to find the easiest way to make money. It never works out. Most of my friends with that attitude either didn't end up getting into their field of choice, or, if they did, they hate their lives because they bust their ass all week long in law, i-banking, medicine, or whatever for money that the don't have the time to enjoy.
Aim high, but do what you love for the sake of the job, not for money.

Dental school is a lot of fun actually. Pretty much everything I learned in undergrad or in HS was pretty much useless besides the science classes I took. 1st year was not too bad. You take biochem, microbiology, immunology, dental anatomy, neuroscience, gross anatomy etc. along with dental related classes. On average, I get about 5-6 hours of sleep. The material in dental school is not that much harder than undergrad but it's just more volume. I pretty much have 2-3 tests per week for the whole year. As for the financial benefits, that definitely is a plus but shouldn't be your sole reason for pursuing dentistry. I'm not gonna lie...the fact that my dad is a dentist definitely had an influence on my decision to go to dental school. If you're really interested in it, just shadow a dentist for a while and see what its like.
This 2nd year is looking to be pretty rough, but it's also been a lot of fun so far. You do more operative dentistry (drillin' and fillin'), start to make crowns, dentures, etc and feel more like you're becoming a real dentist. I'm at school 8am-5pm pretty much everyday. So you get home and you're ****in' tired. Then, you have to study for 2-3 exams that week and make time for lab work that you have to do on the side. It's a pretty hectic schedule... so you have to be completely sure that this is something you want to pursue because its not easy.
