Am I seriously not eating enough, though? Cause I'm only 5'3, so I get fat quite easily. I can't imagine eating any more although I know it speeds my metabolism to have something every few hours.
I agree that I don't think I will ever be able to cut all sugars out. I love fruit too much lol. It's kept me pretty sane these past few days when I've been trying to limit my processed sugar.
Thanks everyone!

I'm 5'3" as well ... I eat a TON of food. It's not how much you eat that will make you fat or thin, but WHAT it is (and when, to a point) and how you workout. I've added TWO 750cal mass gainer shakes to my existing diet and have since lost 2 1/2" on my waist over a month and a half. So don't be afraid of increasing your intake as long as it's healthy =)

What others have said is so true - I've always had a sweet tooth and thought that this would be the hardest for me to break, but if you stop eating it, you just don't crave it anymore. I was at a party where they had all these sweet treats and I was even convincing myself to take a small piece, but in the end I just was not even in the mood for it. It used to be bad right before my period, but I hardly crave sweets then also.
What I usually do is when I have a crave, I wait a half hour just to make sure I really want the treat. If after 30 minutes I still really want it, I don't deprive myself, have a small piece, and make sure it fits into my daily macros -- else it will just turn into a huge craving and I'll wind up eating more of the treat than I had originally planned.

I like this advice LOL. If I really want something I make it fit my cals/macros. It's not that hard.

Sorry but how is this true at all....calories are calories. If you eat more "clean", "healthy", "whatever" calories than you need to maintain then you will put on weight (whether it be muscle or fat). There is nothing magical about "clean" foods except that they make you feel fuller and have more micronutrients.

Well my husband keeps saying that if I eat smaller portions every two to three hours I can eat whatever I want...and that's how he stays skinny supposedly. But that is soooo hard. No restaurants serve small portions usually, and then I have leftovers that I sometimes don't want so I hate wasting the food. It's just a very daunting task. I have somewhat gotten in control of the sweet tooth with the pudding snacks. I've been subbing them in for my usual scoop of ice cream. And the protein pnut butter was delish as well.
Thanks!

Read what I said ... I said FOOD not calories. Think of volume as well. Go ahead and eat the same amount of calories in processed food and "clean" or whatever you want to call it foods ... you will be eating a LOT less FOOD in the processed category.
Again, it was FOOD not CALS that I specifically said. Don't go jumping down my throat w/o understanding. I'm no nutritionist but I know at least what I'm talking about.

aren't mass gainer shakes 'processed' and low in volume compared to whole foods?

yeah that's not a great example, but in my situation I was in a field exercise where it replaced breakfast and a snack, but helped in the long run. so I stayed on them with good results. Sometimes those whole foods aren't available and I found that was a good substitute.
prolly not the best example, but w/e

You sound a lot like me. I am learning that the morning meal sets the tone for the day. If I don't eat properly my day is screwed and I end up eating bad. I find that a high protein meal in the AM is best. I eat one egg + 3 egg whites and usually that is all..which probably isn't good but I am trying to cut out carbs for a bit. I need to add healthy fats to the mix and eventually want to add complex carbs as well. Anyhoo...your AM breakfast has too many carbs and not enough protein..protein is key to kicking appetite and cravings.
PS For a sweet treat that really helps I buy chocolate sugar free pudding and mix one serving of that with one scoop of chocolate protein powder, add a little bit of milk..like very little just enough so that this mixes up and throw in just a few chocolate chips..it's great..high protein but sweet enough to kick the sweet craving..it beats the heck out of cookies or ice cream! HTH

How many calories do you eat a day then? And how much do you work out? I'm 5'8", 138, and trying to keep calories to 1800 but I figure I'm blasting 300-600 with cardio and lifting... wondering if I'm actually too low?!

I did this when I was at a birthday party this past weekend. While everyone was pigging out on birthday cake and pies and cookies I had:
a bowl of greek yogurt with some blueberries, chopped walnuts and little bit of FF cool whip on top. It was so good I didn't even care that everyone else was eating cake and I wasn't.

Natural PB is also a go-to for me when I am having cravings. I swear it goes with anything. In the mornings I usually have a slice of whole wheat with some PB and a few raisins on top. I think you can find a healthy alternative for whatever you desire. Obviously I crave chocolate + PB!

This protein bar recipe sounds good -- can you give specifics on how much of each ingredient, etc.? Thanks!

I soo love peanut butter - I have PB with an apple, greek yoghurt with PP or I have a protein muffin if I am training after work (egg whites, oats, cottage cheese, protein powder, stevia)!
The body craves sugar because it knows that is will satisfy the insulin levels... if you eat reguarly your insulin levels won't drop... kerbing your cravings... ensuring your body has slower release foods (low to medium GI foods) your body should stop cravings! The rest will be habit... once you break it you will be a brand new person....
You can do it

My trainer gave me the same idea for a snack, though he put to use 1 tspn of PB, which hopefully was a typo. I was wondering if anyone else liked it..it sounded pretty good to me but I haven't tried it yet...
