My Linux machines are faster and free before you biotch I can't do this or that I run other virtual OS's with my Linux machine so STFU Learn2Nerd more biotches. Oh and apple is the only douche company that won't allow virtualization. They better change that thought soon or they are screwing themselves out of the most agressive market in IT.

You know what VMWare is or similar products? We the way Apple's licenses their product they don't allow you to run Apple's OS's as virtual OS's. Now you can use Apple as the host OS but not the guest OS. At least that was the case just a few months back.

I assume he means connecting remotely to your mac. Like remote desktop on PC.
All part of cloud computing, which is blowing up.

I'm running a MINT build right now. It's decent but I prefer Kubuntu.

Yes but virtualization which happens to be what I deal with daily in my real life is multi-faceted. Not only cloud computing as many know it as server hosted OS utilizing remote connection, but there is desktop virtualization (non-hosted), server virtualization, application virtualization and so on. On my home machines I run Sun VirtualBox with my host OS as Ubuntu with guest OS's of XP, Vista, SUSE and Solaris currently. I can't run Mac's OS because their license unless I actually owned and Apple and run virtualbox from that computer. The dumb thing is Apple is not allowing me a user to learn their OS even if I paid for it. They rely on their hardware sales which is just absurd imo. They are screwing themselves out of potential customers imo.

My son runs Mint. It's a great OS for the Windows convert. I flip back and forth on KDE/Gnome. Each has their strengths/weaknesses. I wish I had the knowledge and time to merge the good from each.

True. I think people would be amazed how simple Linux has become. MINT is a perfect example of that. It's super easy to install and supports ton's of hardware. Hell my son has an old POS nc6000 with a Microsoft wi-fi card and everything was found. My HP elite book with SUSE as the main OS found everything even the finger print scanner. Those reading this thinking about trying it they make LiveCD's that run the OS from your CD/DVD-ROM to verify hardware and play around. I highly recommend it.

MINT is also running a win like environment to so people wouldn't feel out of place.
I remember when I was younger I would hear talk about linux in PC forums and be overwhelmed by it. Come to think about it the name "jumblo or jamblo" or something comes to mind. It's not a distro though ... mhm weird what you remember that may or may not have any relevance to anything.
I remember spending well over 1 week worth of hours trying to map my multi function mouse. It wasn't an easy copy/pasta - I had to actually map each command. Reminded me of the old linux days.

I follow. Was trying to dumb it down lol.
And i don't quite get why they make their software only work on their hardware. cant quite follow the business decision unless they are simply attempting to control as much of the supply chain as possible.
Seems pointless thesedays though.

Really? If I was developing software I'd want as much control over it as possible, including distribution..

Eh.. the apple/pc thing will always be an endless debate.. I've used both. Hate pc's. The people that mostly hate on macs are the same people argue about price, power, and other things that are incredibly relative.. And most people that say they like apple.. just have ipods.. I agree though the ads can be lame.. Thing is however.. apple does implementation and integration better than anyone, and everything works very cohesively. They did it with computers, and now with phones..
protip: Although I read it a couple weeks ago or so.. apple has like a 90+ percent market share on computers 1k and up.

I've worked on macs and still occasionally do and I get BEYOND frustrated when working with it. When I'm on a windows PC, I know EXACTLY what I'm doing and know how to fix almost every problem.

Yeah but I figure there has to be some business motive behind it. Not worth losing huge amounts of money for pride...
I do have a macbook and would never go to PC for a laptop. The functionality of the trackpad alone is worth it IMO. For a desktop...PC all the way

If you're using computers extensively(you do bio chem stuff yah?) and you're predominately using a pc.. well then that makes sense.. and you may, more than likely be using pc only type applications relevant to your personal work.. this puts you in the minority of average computer users.. I'm the opposite.. whenever I use pc's I have no clue how to get certain things to run because most of the interface is not intuitive whatsoever.. how come vista was emulating.. or trying to, Mac OS software?

I suppose; I only roll with laptops and most chemistry software is well-developed for PC whereas mac is limited. Also, the software that is available for both OSs do not have the ability to share the documents between the two platforms; i.e. taking a document I generate and putting it on my advisor's POS mac.

No clue, I don't pay attention to the inner-workings of software development wars. Only thing I know is Windows 2000, NT, and XP Pro ftw! Vista fukking SUUUUCCKKSS!!
Used to have NT and lost the disc Just stuck with the 2000 and XP Pro discs

Everyone copies everyone. Againt popular belief, the mouse, keyboard, monitor and GUI was invented by Xerox and featured in Xerox Star. Apple took that an added drop down menus and made them dragable. All them all, the GUI made the largest impact which wasn't Apple created.
Apple are good at what they do, and that is take other peoples ideas and combine them. They very rarely have their own software/hardware designs from the iMac to the iPods wheel, none their own.

You say go piss in OSX, but get a linux distro that mimic's OSX. Oh well, not a fan of widgets. Being free to edit coding is great though.

I used to run SUSE but I went with gOS it because I use a lot of stuff from Google so its perfect for me and I had a copy of it around. Besides, its code is based off of Debian Ubuntu so its all good for me

Hey, I got it on the 28th. Its not bad, Quicktime X is pretty sexy.
It does load certain apps faster, and Safari definately handles better.
So far, it feels like a fresh install without the slow down, I'll see how it goes. Expose is a bit buggy unfortunately.
While Linux is pretty cool, I don't think it'll ever beat the elegance of Mac OS, nor does it provide the little quirks that make the experience that much better (ie. Multi-touch trackpad (swipe 4 fingers to launch Expose to switch windows), backlit keyboards that are nice to type, seamless integration with iphone and other stuff)

Those reading this thinking about trying it they make LiveCD's that run the OS from your CD/DVD-ROM to verify hardware and play around. I highly recommend it.

I run Linux myself. What is your opinion of building an Intel system and installing Snow Leopard (making a Hackintosh)?

Have you seen the hacks currently made? I haven't been in the loop as of late, but from what I remember 'hackintosh' systems are very buggy.
