Haven't tried with straps but if you have a weak grip it could bring your deadlift up by like 20 pounds.

Did 225x6 yesterday without straps. I never use straps though so I don't know how much they would add.
I recently switched to a mixed grip instead of double overhand, and I noticed I can use a little bit more weight because of it.

405 1RM Raw 455 1RM Straps. Straps are good force forcing yourself to get a good last few reps on your last set that is if your Grip is Giving out.

10x280 stiff-legged w/ straps... not sure what I could do w/o straps (gym doesn't allow chalk), but I train grip separately so I'm not too worried.

i really hate it when people lift it then drop the weight...=/
i never encounter this much but the other day this guy was DL'ing and he would pick it up then let it drop. Wtf? i'm pretty sure slowly lowering the weight is part of the exercise.

they dont make a significant difference unless your grip is weak. my strapped DL used to be 50lbs higher than my best mixed grip DL. now they are equal, because I worked on my grip. If I wore straps it would no longer make a difference

sorry let me elaborate
i dont want to try hook grip because it is incredibly painful when done correctly and i enjoy having feeling in both of my thumbs, it is also a weaker grip than mixed grip anyways..
in b4 what about bicep tears, keep your triceps flexed so your arms are straight when u pull

it was painful the first 2-3 times, but after it's just pretty much like the squat/trappain thing, you don't even notice it. i actually pulled more with a hook than a mixed, dunno lol. inb4laynenorton lol

not for everyone i'spose, although i admit ive never ever seen someone other than me using it.
at my gym if they are using:
double OH : either incredibly strong (4-5plates+ for reps) and doing it on purpose, or stupid and don't know how to deadlift
mixed: usually pull decent amounts, i assume they know how to deadlift
but never hook

5 plates for reps with DOH is crazy grip strength.. ive never seen such a feat IRL.
of course there are videos online of the strongman misha koklyaev pulling 415kgs or so with a hook =( =( =(
