She didn't complain this morning, so I'll see when she gets home from school. After all, I can't wait to ask her...and then hand her the box of new Reebok's I bought for her a while ago . The pressure is on!

Try to learn to have fun with it when you're right before or after a Leg day. It's the only way.

LOL, I like the explanation you were given, but don't know how much it may be true. I do know this; after you run, you continue to burn cals at an accelerated rate throughout the day. This may be just enough to push you into "seeing" it. I have to wait no less than 1hr to take a shower after running, and very often, that's not enough cool-down time for me. Sweating is a healthy bodily function, so I guess I'm healthy as hell .

I have definitely showered after a run and two minutes after I have dried off, it is like I never showered.

Man, that happens all too often to me too. And what really sucks is that I can't ever say, "Oh, I'll get a quick run in before I have to...", because I need 90 mins minimum to get any run in and then be able to shower and dress.

All day, or only for a few hours after running ? I have read several times about fit people sweating quicker, but not sure.

From my own experience - I started sweating like crazy after starting to run, even more than I did as a fat guy (300 lbs-ish). After a while (maybe 6 months, IIRC) it tapered off. Nowadays, I sweat like a beast when working out, but the rest of the day (after an hour or so of cool-off) I am fine.

Oh, and chicks don't sweat - you glisten

Thursday

I just completed a run after a late start because of a dentist appt. The only thing I can think of may have made this run suck so bad was that I didn't take beta-alanine, as I usually do. Damn, lactic acid issue was more prevalent than any other run I can recall. After the 1st 1.35 lap I almost called it quits. My feet hurt and my legs just hurt in general hurt. I felt like I couldn't breathe for anything (while I spiked my HRM to about 157...no joke). I walked and jogged again and again. I did not climb The Bitch again after that first lap, and just stayed between a .30 point from my house back and forth. I legs started feeling slightly better toward the end, which is what kept me going for another .60 round trip. Total time look decent because it was mostly on relatively flat ground.

Distance - 3.75
Time - 33:17 (includes all walking)
Pace - 8:52 (really surprised me, but that's what a flat surface will do, I guess )
No HRM info, as turned it off (losing info) and back on again to force one more .60 lap)
72* & 99% humidity (threatening rain throughout the day)

As I mentioned yesterday, I bought my daughter a pair of running shoes, so I hope to coax her out tonight for a short run . I'm actually about to go buy my son, who turned 19 yesterday, a pair of running shoes too. He's the one who runs with me most of all 3, and he uses some worn out Puma shoes. He likes them, but geeez...they have no support or cushion.

Oh, and he called me yesterday from school to ask my permission (and as a B-Day present) to get a tattoo. I've kept him from doing it for the past few years, but I relented yesterday. I guess I have to feel fortunate that he's 19 and still asked me for permission. I told him there was one condition; he had to go to Little Five Points in Atlanta to be sure and get a quality tat. He called me about 10:30 last night.....he actually had already driven there and got it done . $150 poorer, he's a happy 19yr old now.

Maybe he'll surprise you with a picture of Dad tattoo.

No runs for me today, I am debating whether to take my son to the Eagles game (for the record I am transplanted to this are from North Jersey and am a Jets fan, who happens to have Eagles season tickets). Should be interesting game since Vick is supposed to play. The catch is my son is only 3, so it would be stay for an hour and get out.

sounds like he still respects (or fears) the old man's opinion and word. Good for you, hope to have the same connection with my boy at that age.

Nice work on the flat surface run. Always feels good to do something where you can go full out without any "obstacles". I'm jealous . Might have to treat myself to one of those soon, been running the Widowmaker a lot recently. Battling some kind of weird virus that has had me feeling up and down like $hit most of the week, so, I think instead of pushing it and feeling worse as a result, I'm just going to ride it out for a couple days and get back in the saddle this weekend.

Think I'm going to work expanding my schedule to 5x weekly by adding a couple short runs (2-3 miles) around my long and training runs. My schedule has been kind of screwy for the last 3 weeks, so I'm REALLY looking forward to putting it back together.

Nah, it's a tat of something to do with a camp he's been going to for over 10yrs (counselor the past 3). It's the same camp area where the guys in Band of Brothers did training. I won't get to see it til' Friday night . I already know of a large one he wants on his back some day, lol, so I guess he's starting out small.

Steve, you will if you make a point to spend time with him. Like most dads, I felt guilty for
not spending as much time with my kids as I know I could have. LOL, I think this is why grandparents are so great to their grandkids; they're making up for ignoring their own kids . The single most important common bond between my sons and I has been weight lifting, as well as running later on. That bonding translated into "enjoying hanging out with dad" for other things as well. Just something to keep in mind. And it's a natural inclination to want to outdo your dad in arm wrestling and /or other things that make you compete with strength, so these things are good for both father and son(s), and leads to many other things you can share.

You must have missed the part where I said my legs were killing me...and skipped straight to the decent time I posted . Seriously, it wasn't a good run despite the time!

As I mentioned yesterday, I bought my daughter a pair of running shoes, so I hope to coax her out tonight for a short run .
Run #2 for today....with my daughter!!!

Yes, I coaxed her to come and run with me again, but with running shoes this time, lol. I think she wanted to do it anyway, but the best part? It was raining the whole time! Just drizzle, really, but still....I'm still so elated she came out with me.

I pushed her a little harder. She likes the shoes and commented on how she "didn't feel her feet" like she did the other night. She whined toward the end, but I insisted me make it an even 2 miles and she went along .

Distance - 2 Miles
Time - 24 mins (I think it may have been slightly less, but I forgot to look as soon as we got back)
Pace - Approx 12 mins (which ain't bad considering all the walking that we did)

Yes, she had to stop again at .30, and we continued to walk/jog/run again....but I limited her rests (walking) to much less time this time. Hell, I think that a 12min pace for all the walking we did was great. Needless to say, the best part for me was merely having her want to go with me. I hope to develop it into a healthy habit for her...without pushing her too much to make it no fun .

Oh, and chicks don't sweat - you glisten
The sweating, um, glistening, occurs while I am working out. Not all day (thank goodness!). But it seems as though it does not take much to get me to break a sweat, whereas it used to be that I could go to the gym and do a workout and still be able to stop at the store on the way home.

When I run, I don't sweat so much during the run, but for roughly 30 minutes after I stop it's as though my body goes into release.

Wow! 12 minutes is a respectable time for her 2nd time out.

Just curious: how did you know what shoe to get her? I had to try on many pairs before I found one that worked for me (and even then I had help from a knowledgeable person at a running store).

This is pretty normal I'd think for anyone. Me? I break a sweat after approx 10mins of running and it continues to increase. However, when I stop running? It's like Niagra Falls kicked in high gear .

Again, lots of walking too, but yeah...not bad at all.

I simply asked her what size shoe she wore...I know she has a narrow foot...and I simply picked a pair of size 7 women's Reeboks . Hey, this is 1000x better than those flat, cushion-less shoes she wore the 1st night (yikes). I figure we can worry about a prefect fit running shoe for her stride down the road if she keeps it up. I bought my 19yr old a pair today too......and I've bought all 4 pairs of my Asics on-line! I know it's not optimal, but I haven't had any issues that have effected me....to my knowledge.

[QUOTE=dbx;377401931]Run #2 for today....with my daughter!!!

ok, that's it! My son is going out with me this weekend. He is long-legged like me and practically as tall so it should be good. The run/walk thing is great.

Personally, if I stop during my run, I stay in one place for 30 secs or less. That way I am not "walking" any of my distance. Sometimes knowing that if I stop, I am just losing time and not covering any ground, encourages me to keep going...but not always!!

I definitely get where you're coming from. My relationship with my dad was $hit, before and after my parents split up. I've always made a point of being close to him, never been the kind of guy who kills himself at work. Right now, we have sports, swimming, and music that we share a common interest in, and I don't see that changing.

you know what I call runs like that, right? That's a character builder.

FINALLY feeling like I've beaten this bug that's been tormenting me all week. Did something I almost never do... got up early and ran this morning. 2 miles at a 9-9:30 pace (didn't time but I know my paces pretty well by now). Goal is 4 miles tomorrow and 4 more on Sunday, want to get in 3 straight days of running as part of upping to 5x weekly

LOL. It won't be fun if you have to force him though. We're in for lousy weather this wknd, but I'm still holding out hope for a long run with my 19yr old since we missed it because of a local triathlon last Sat. But I also have Legs today, so a long run may not be in the cards. We'll see.

Funny the way we all look at things differently. I can understand your practice ^ here. But for me, anything goes toward total time it takes to complete the task, and I know that any walk time is slower than any running time . And yeah, in her case (my daughter) I felt it was essential to keep her moving! Seriously.

I also talked to her about running techniques, VO2 levels, strategies to improve VO2 levels, and reasons why one might run slow when only distance is the goal and not time....and running fast when time is the main goal for the short term.....and combining the two at times. She seemed genuinely receptive and interested in all of it. She didn't ask questions, but I could see the wheels turning while she was processing it .

I have no delusions of her becoming and avid runner, but I do have high hopes that she'll become interested in a healthy activity! Today's generations do almost nothing in the way of physical activity.

Glad to hear it! But you might consider not taxing your CNS so hard, so soon. Just try to make them relaxed runs if possible.

Today was a speed run and I came to conclusion. I really do not like running. I've been doing this for 8 weeks now and had figured that at some point I'd stop thinking "I hate running" in time to the pounding of my feet, but that hasn't happened. I think I am going to stick the activities I enjoy that are good for me -- lifting and speed rope! Who knows, maybe I will sweat less, too.

Thanks to all for your support and interest. I may pop in from time to time to cheer you on.

Hey, you tried it again, and that's what counts most in my mind. 8 whole weeks, eh? Reminds me of people here who try our diet advice for all of 2wks and then decide they've given it their best shot, despite it not "paying off" . As I've repeated many times here, I didn't really enjoy running until this year, my 4th season. But I suppose even during the 3 seasons I thought I despised it, I was probably subconsciously drawn toward it. Personality/OCD flaw, I guess .

All kidding aside, you know I love ya .

Running has been building its place in my mind. I won't necessarily say I like it just yet, but I don't mind it anymore. Actually, at the point where I do not like to miss runs or go to many days without getting one in.

anyone here doing a cyclic keto diet?

On the diet you carb up on the weekends to rebuild your glycogen levels.

Obviously running would defeat the purpose, so is it advisable to only run during the week?

I tend to carb up on the weekends. However, I think it has more to do with Harp than following a cyclic keto diet .

On a serious note, I have not tried. I stick to a standard diet at all times, manly focusing on getting the appropriate protein and making sure my total calories are in line. Low carb has always made me feel week.

Got a shorter run in than I would have like this morning. Time was not on my side, so I snuck in a half hour of work.

3 miles - 25:48.

I can't imagine trying to run consistent on Keto...is cyclic the key word there?
