A belt really isn't necessary if your core is strong enough, in my opinion. I've never used one.

its just im a pretty tall guy, and im not exactly mega thick,

i figured when i got to around a 300 squat i should get one
is that a good weight?

If you want to be safe rather than sorry, get one now.
In my opinion, as your deadlift and squat increase, so will the thickness of your lower back. Therefore, lessening the need for a belt. I think using the belt may cause less lower back growth, but I'm not sure on that one.

I use a belt to "push" against when i tighten my core, i find that it helps.
Belts arent a "cure-all," they dont "lock you into place" or "make your form better" by themselves, one has to use them correctly

I use a belt for squatting and DLing cause my lower back is very weak and I'm flat footed which makes it harder for squats.

Well that's what they are used for, you didn't just invent that function :P

Are your stats accurate,? just wondering. Your bench is almost identical to your squat and deadlift.
To OP. Use them whenever you want to.
I started using them when my back started to ache all day from consistently squatting and deadlifting heavy, not because I reached a certain weight. Helped my back aches greatly when deadlifting. Helped my squat go up by 20lbs.

Still not wearing a belt, and routinely doing sets of 4 at 405.
I've told myself when I max at 525 I'll consider purchasing a nice belt through APT.

Well played sir. But yeah, my intention was to say that there are plenty of people that kinda just... wear them, or make the belt super tight to achieve "core stability".

Ha I just don't really feel the need for one at the moment. I'm sure there are kids who need one at 225, and I'm sure there are guys who'd laugh at me for thinking of using one at 'only' 525.
I could probably add some extra poundage to my lift if I used one, but I'm not overly concerned with it. I'm more fixated on getting my damn bench up to 315 by 2010 than I am on what my squat and dead maxes are.

Theres me magic weight, IMO, its best to use one of your heaviest sets. Regardless of the weight, your form may start to suffer when you are fatigued and lifting at your heaviest, so a belt takes one thing out of your mind and lets you focus on the lift IMO.

Nah I don't care if you're using a belt or not, I was just miring your squat.
Yeah I neglect bench, because I want a high squat and deadlift.... I should probably start benching more often......after I'm done with smolov.

I move pretty **** weight but I love using a belt. Everything simply feels 10x better when it's on. If core strength become a problem, I'll add core work.

Lol I don't even know. I never thought I would be enjoying and using my belt so much.
So I just bought a generic looking belt at my local "big 5 sporting goods" store.
20bucks. Works well. I call her sheeba.
