i agree.
i also like plate pinches and also I do double overhand (no hook grip) for my lighter warm up sets until I can no longer grip the weight and this has helped my grip as well

Ahhh. I normally for right for the hook grip. No wonder my hands are chowder by the end of a session.
Good stuff. Thanks for the info.

Hey Layne, how's everything going. I have a quick training related question for you. I was wonderig about your thoughts on smolov compared to sheiko. I'm just over halfway done with sheiko 29 and was considering smolov in the near future. I understand you don't want this to be a q&a thread so if you don't wan to answer that I understand. Hope all is going well on all fronts.

iirc, even before your injury, you were training your upper body (or at least chest and arms) at more of a maintenance level in an effort to bring your legs up....do you feel this is the most effective and efficient way for a natural bodybuilder to balance out a lagging bodypart?...by dropping intensity and volume on strong parts while increasing intensity, volume and/or frequency for the lagging part...

Hey Layne,
I know you never intended this thread to be a Q & A but since it turned into one...
I've been dieting for 6 months now using a carb cycling diet. mix of high med and low days each week. Back and Leg days were high for obvious reasons, shoulders and arms med and 2 low days with carbs being around 60g.
I want to compete for the first time in May 2010 but i want to put on some more LBM before i diet down.
This is the leanest I've ever been and before i jump into my bulk (i'll be using your bulk cut routine), should i slowly bring calories/carbs back to maintenance for a few weeks in order to let my system reset and get used to this BF %? Or should i jump into a positive energy balance and take advantage of the possible metabolic swing?
Thanks for any help. Can't wait to see you onstage in 2010!
ps: some stats
6'2
started diet at 222lbs
currently holding around 198
Calories range from High days of 2700
Medium days 2400
Low Days 2000-2100
Carbs
High days 200grams
Med days 140 grams
Low days 67grams
Maintenance seems to be 3000 and i would continue carb cycling with higher macros.

We knew the world would not be the same. A few people laughed, a few people cried. Most people were silent. I remembered the line from the Hindu scripture, the Bhagavad-Gita; Vishnu is trying to persuade the Prince that he should do his duty, and to impress him, takes on his multi-armed form and says, 'Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.' I suppose we all thought that, one way or another

Im a Goodin fan, but is it just me or was he not that shredded?? Maybe I'm being stupid but he doesn't seem that shredded to me, although his symmetry is perfect as usual.. No striated glutes...
I'm very happy for him, and especially what he is doing for natural bodybuilding, just wondering..

It isn't a requirement to have shredded glutes in the NPC to win a show. In top level natty shows being shredded is more important

Yea I mean I'm not trying to give him crap or say that striated glutes are the end all, just saying he doesn't seem as shredded as in the past..
Spirit: good point on the warm up show..
