Hello, new to the site, certainly not to bodybuilding; been training on/off for over 20 years, suffered too many injuries to list along the way as well. Recently got back to the gym after another surgical recouperation (one year layoff). In any case, I hope to learn a bit and offer info when I can.

I am brand new here. I have lurked around for a while, but hope joining in can help get some motivation going. I am 42 nearing 43 and 5'9" and about 180 lbs., not a couch potato but not in as good shape as I could be. I hope to learn more here about what I need to do to get into better shape.

Another newbie, back in the Gym after a LONNNNNNG layoff. Alittle older than most here but still trying to make some positive gains. I am in the process of setting my goals and initially just want to take off a few pounds and get myself back to where I am excercising regularly. I am tying to eat more sensibly and have been back in the gym for 2 months now. I am smiling a lot more!!My blood sugars (diabetes since 1989) have dropped dramatically (diet and excercise imagine that!!!)Energy level is way up. I have just ordered some supplements (through this web site) and am looking forward to this new adventure. I ahave just this a.m. taken some "before pictures" will be putting them up and then the real committment begins

Hi There:
Just registered on the site last week and been pouring through all the info here. Wow there is a lot too. Been lurking around for a few days now and decided to pop in and say hello. hehe so ahhmm Hello.
A little about me:
37 years old
6'2" I think
270lbs Approximation hard to weigh myself
bf% hmm no idea probably a lot
A little background for me.
Well I am almost positive that I am a very unusual case, see I am in a wheelchair, have been for the last ten years. That would explain the approximations on the weight and height.
I am in it for strength, and a nice peak on my biceps wouldn't hurt either

Add another new guy! I'm turning 35 in August, but I enjoy reading the 35+ forums. Finally signed up after lurking for a while.
I returned to lifting this past March - the last time I seriously lifted was in college. I'm making some good gains - using full body workouts with only dumbbells. I have no time to join a gym, but my 'bells and bench in my basement have been great. It's therapy and fulfilling. I'm a teacher, so hopefully this summer I can join a gym and get a trainer to guide me. As it is, I am definitely getting into shape even if my belly is stubborn.
One of my goals is to rival Arnold. Ok, just kidding. But I would like to bulk up to the point that it shows even with clothing on that I am muscular. My two boys occasionally come down to watch me work out (5 and 3 yrs old), and it's really for them that I want to get into great shape. I hope that it would eventually rub off on them and they too pursue lifting and a healthy lifestyle. Anyway, glad to be here!

Hey All,
I am 38 with all that entails. Health problems prohibited me from working out but after being sidelined for nearly 3 years I got approval to bust my chops. I started in October at 270 and through trail, errors, and more errors - I have finally hit the 210 mark. Initially, everything was cardio and RDA. Some reading and experimentation led me to a better diet and eventually weights.
Historically, I lifted when I was a 20 something firefighter. I also played around with various martial arts for a few years. I have yet to take a picture of the "new me."

Newbie Here
Hi all,
I'm new to the forum and to bodybuilding in general. I was an athelete in HS and worked out off and on for years after, but never got serious about my health and fitness until recently. I am now 49 years old and since Jan.1, 2007, I've quit smoking-quit drinking- changed my diet- started working out. I've lost 30 lbs and 3 waist sizes and feel better than I have in 20 years. I'm very excited about how far I've come and even more excited about where I'm going. I started going to the gym on March 5, 2007 and I'm hitting the weights pretty heavy now, eating healthy and often, and experimenting with the basic supplements. I've cut most of the fat from my body and now I'm in the build lean mass mode and I've learned tons of useful info from the good folks here and look forward to hanging around more often.
I wish I'd taken before pics. You wouldn't believe the change in just the last 7 weeks of weight training....I will take some in the next few days at this stage and get them posted, so I can gauge progress and get your feedback.
Thanks again to the mods fo making this a great place to learn and stay motivated.

Greetings all
I've been lifting on and off since I was about 15. I just turned 45 last month. I have not been doing much in the way of anything serius for about 7 years now. I was lifting heavily while I was in the Army from 90-99. I put on some pretty good muscle and was stronger than I had ever been.
Life and work got in the way of me staying motivated to train and I have gone back to the bottom of the hill. I finally got fed up with my back hurting and just not having any strength. I have been lifting again now for the last 7 weeks, and I feel so much better.
I am using an Olympic style lifting routine to put on mass and get my strength back. I am training at home in the garage and my equipment is very basic, but it forces me to work hard. I picked up a universal PKR bench. It has a chin bar, leg raise, dip station, and elevated pushup handles. I also have a straight bar and two dumbell handles. I have around 180lbs of weight. I am not doing any benching, just the elevated pushups and dips in the way of chest work. Still my chest gets plenty of work from what I am doing to it.
I am not looking to compete, just put back the muscle and get strong again.
My physique goal is to look like a classic greek based on Sandows calculator. I've always admired the Statue of David's physique. Although I would like to be a little tighter. Frank Zane is another physique I have always admired for it's symmetry. I am aiming for built, but symetrical and functional.
Looking forward to hanging out around here, and meeting a few people.

Hello! My husband(EagleDog) and I decided that we needed to really get serious about getting into shape. We are both HUGE procrastinators, but I have honestly tried to get us both motivated and moving. Since January this year, I have lost 15 pounds. I have personally tossed around the idea of doing this weight thing with changing the way I eat and with exercise, or having Gastric Bypass Surgery to help me out a little. Either way I go, I will have a major lifestyle change to overcome and get used to. As of right now, I want to do what I can to lose the weight and get toned without the surgery.
My husband is cutting back on portions and junk food. He has almost completely cut soda out of his diet, replacing it with diet Lipton green tea. *barf* I can't stand the taste of tea, homemade or store bought, so I just go with water. We are both making a bigger effort to hold the other accountable for what they eat during the day.
Anyhow, it's nice to be a part of BB.com!

New
Been a lurker for awhile.
About 6 months ago, started working out again after a lllooooonnnng lull after having two babies 11 months apart (3 1/2 and 2 1/2 years old now).
I gained a ton of weight during my pregnancies due to having gestational diabetes with both. I have lost a total of 65 pounds since having my second son and I'm done with the weight loss, now want to maintain and continue on a workout program to keep fit so I can keep up with two toddler boys.
In January, I had a tummy tuck and reconstruction of my abdominal muscles as they were torn to shreds from the preggos. I started with a personal trainer 8 weeks after surgery to gain strength back and to facilitate the healing process. Have been seeing great results all over just in a short period of time and cardio endurance is up and I'm really getting into the groove of working out again.
I'm currently weight training an hour a day, two days a week and doing cardio for 20 - 30 mins 4 days a week. I pretty much stick to a South Beach type modified diet to keep my blood sugars level.
I'm here to gain more knowledge and tips on workouts, diet and whatnot.
Thanks

NewB
Hello, I am new here, too ... found this site a few weeks ago and have been lurking practically every day. I have worked out off and on for the past 25 years but got into it seriously about a month ago (BFL).
With all the great articles, exercise database, forums, etc I have found a wealth of information here. I'm glad there's a space for 35+'s interested in fitness!
Blessings,
Penney

Hello
I've been visiting for awhile, and decided to join. Hope I can get some good advice, and one day return the favor.
I'm 49, and really in need of some lifestyle changes. I know about nutrition and I know a lot about training .... now I need to put them into action. I'm tired of being out of shape and not taking care of myself.
I am serious about this, and while I know it won't be easy, there really is no other choice for me. I'm excited and motivated, but even when I'm not, I WILL continue on.
Glad to be here!

Hi Everyone
New her as well
I started my journey on the 26th of February 2007.
I did lots of reading before I started just to get it all correct from dieting to excising and so on.
My main goal is to transform my current fat into muscles
so far it all comes into place....
Never thought I ever get into BB. But I really love it

Hey Y,all.... Can I post here (I am only 31...32 this Nov.)?
I am not into the kids trying to get freakishly huge. I need to workout for my job (current LEO), and I am testing for the POST academy in September.
Alittle about me: 31 yo, 6'1", 318, Built like a linebacker, I need to be able to jump 2 6' solid walls and run 3 miles @ 9 minute pace by September for the academy.... but this won't matter if I can't jump 1- 6' solid and 1- 6' chain link fence by July 14 (PAT test date).
thx.

intro
I'm new hear as well. I'm 40 and quit drinking about 18 mos ago lost 8 pounds and looked reasonably good for a few months...I gained it back pretty quickly as I kept eating everything in sight.
I joined a gym 3/1/2007 and hit the cardio for 6 weeks without any diet changes lost about 1 pound, and maybe 1% BF. I discovered John Stone's Fitness forums, and learned how miserable my diet was by posting a couple days at Fitday
http://www.fitday.com/WebFit/PublicJ...Owner=dabagboy
I have now lost about 11 pounds in 4 weeks and want to see my abs this summer.
My family (wife) thinks I'm kind of crazy, but it's working and by the time we go to the pool this summer I should be very close to my goal.
This site looks good I like a lot of the tools, as I find "exposure" and teams help keep me motivated....I have started blog here and my main blog is at www.littleboringblog.com

Thanks for this thread. I used to work out all of the time, but life got in the way. I am getting ready to turn 40, and I re-committed to getting back into shape. I joined this web site to help me with my efforts to turn it around.
