Best posing music genre?
I prefer Alternative rock or hip hop.

Anything that you can pose to. Getting up and trying to do the moon walk or pop lock and drop it all over the stage to Nelly when you can't dance is the most annoying thing ever!!!! If you can dance, then have fun. If not, don't make yourself look like an idiot.

Agree! Pic a song you can like, and most importantly can pose to.

LMAO, have people actually done this before?
Does your music have to have lyrics or be something necessarily "hard"? Or could it be something on the chill side?
(Just wondering. Debating on competing in a few years)

I agree with alt rock or hip hop... something that has some hard beats to hit poses to are the best, IMO.

This or things similar to this are done at every show. People need to let someone else see their routine and get an honest opinion before they step up on stage and create a really awkward scene. Kinda like those people who try out for American Idol or America's Got Talent that think they are the next best thing since sliced bread. The only problem is no one has ever heard them or seen their act.
As far as music goes you can pose to whatever you want just make sure it works and let someone else see it so that you aren't the only one that thinks your routine is the shiz. Layne Norton has a good write up about contest prep and mentions posing routines and music selection in the article. Its a sticky at the top of this page "comprehensive pre-contest article" I think is the title. Check it out.

This is my take, If your a "little" guy and more of a flowing physique then don't pose to Metallica of some crazy heavy metal. Leave that for the monsters....
In other words pose to music that "fits" your physique...I hate seeing 140 bantam weights posing to Heavy Metal...

Choosing appropriate music has always been a stressor for me. I can't
stand angry stuff or sad stuff which to me- most of the stuff you hear
today is sad, angry stuff. I had good luck using funky instrumental stuff.
But hey-I'm a girl, I'm a natty and I am not interested in doing a strip
tease routine to some hoochie coochie music. Hah! Just got finished
with two bodybuilding shows-used an old tune "Benny and the Jets"
by Elton John. My hubby didn't like it but it worked for me. Slower,
heavier beat and sorta happy stuff.
OTOH, my last show-a guy did a cool routine to a Micheal Jackson mix.
I know I know-but it was kinda cool. He did a good job-threw in a moon
walk or two. The crowd luvvvvved it.
Just my two cents worth.

dang sucks for you! lol but to each his own. i agree that people need to start choosing music based on their body types and not cuz they think its cool. Nothing worse than a skinny kid trying to pump out to hardcore metal stuff. it looks bad

I usually just try to pick something the crowd will enjoy, but it's gotta rock because I like to energy-it-up

I always recommend picking music that you like and find inspiring. Know your posing limits, and pick a track you can pose to comfortably.
Agreed, someone should evaluate the routine off stage before going on stage. And practice and practice some more. It is usually a no brainer to tell who has practiced and who hasn't.
With all the effort that goes into this, posing is also an important part of the equation. Have seen competitiors lose a place or two for not being to display what they worked for. Don't let that happen.
Good luck.

I've already got my song picked out for my first comp. Stupified-Disturbed. I like the pronounced beat hits. Gives something to hit each pose to..and IMO makes is seem like you're hitting each pose really hard when it coincides with a big hit like that.
