CA BART Strike - This is Why Unions Suck

Yet another example of the dangers of grouping and not dealing with people as individuals.

A vital transportation artery is going to be shut down this Monday as the whiny ATU Local 1555 union seeks to hold the entire SF Bay Area hostage to get their way.

Instead of taking a deal and kuckling down like the rest of us, they are choosing to cost uncountable businesses, families and communities, peace of mind, stability and undoubtedly, millions of dollars through this awful strike. No, you're not getting raises this year. I personally didn't get my raise last year or this year, either. We're all hurting.

The other unions have already voted to accept new contracts, but instead of continuing to work like they should, they are going to 'honor' the picket line and NOT work, even though 1555's contract dispute has NOTHING TO DO WITH THEM. Total BS.

I urge everyone who lives in California to contact Governor Schwarzenegger, Senators Boxer and Feinstein, as well as your local representatives, and urge them to do everything in their power to STOP THIS STRIKE.

California, and tertiary states, CANNOT AFFORD this strike. We are still reeling from the recession and the double-whammy of California's own financial crisis. This strike will devastate California - no question about it. Trickle-down effects will be felt throughout the US as California businesses suffer under this strike. This strike is not only detrimental to California, but the entire US.

Contact your reps, sens, and gov TODAY, RIGHT NOW, and ask them to take action, then tell everyone you know to do the same.

STOP THE STRIKE. STOP THE STRIKE. STOP THE STRIKE.

**Update**

Send an e-mail to the ATU Local 1555 union and let your voice be heard.

so don't take the bart? you don't want to be supporting those damn socialist public transportation systems anyway, do you?

it is ****ty that they won't accept the fact that they aren't getting a raise in the middle of a recession, but there should be plenty of other people out there looking for jobs. tell the union to kick rocks and put out an a "now hiring" ad... it's not like california doesn't have unemployment problems right now, and tons of people looking for jobs.

Remember, they are not asking for a pay raise. They don't like that management awarded themselves a 6% pay rise at the start of the year and other bonuses and then 4 months later say things are so bad we need you the workers to take cuts in your benifits and conditions.

The union offered to have this put into the new contract, that you could not become vested in BART until you had worked 15 years for the company instead of the 5 years that they have now. Management turned this down, as that would stop them bringing their friends in to a comfy job and then leaving after 5 years with full medical benefits. That would have saved a **** load of money. Management also want to invest in a link between Oakland Coliseum and the Oakland airport at a cost of $550million which is a total waste of money and not needed, and it has been proved that it will never make money. BART employees also get no Social security from the company

The BART board of directors is full of democrats/socialists who waste money and hide it in certain accounts so as to make it appear they are not making money.

They should not strike though, I agree with that. it's all part of living in California
