absolutely. i was in a frozen yogurt place a few weeks ago, and an obese mom and dad with 2 kids, probably about 3-5 years old came in. i felt sorry for the kids because they were a little chubby already, but i'm 100% positive they are going to be fat if not obese when they are older because of how their parents feed them.
i know that's why i use to be 235lbs. all i knew to eat was fast food, etc. i was never taught anything nutritional, to exercise, etc.

if you notice that your kids are getting fat, just stop allowing them to eat junk food. it is not like dieting yourself where you have to show restraint and discipline.

Well, yes and no - media doesnt help either - childhood obesity hasn't always been a big problem, yet kids have always had parents

They are liable but it's not their 'fault' exactly. The underlying problem is the lack of education and knowledge about nutrition, calories, portions and exercise.
When my parents were young the large size drink was the equivalent of a small today. They used to be outside all day playing not in front of the TV or computer. They didn't have to worry as much about obesity because they were active and had smaller portions so why would they need to know anything about nutrition? No problem with their nutrition so no need to correct it (with education) but since then they have started to move less (sedentary lifestyle) and eat more (bigger portions) gaining weight as a consequence.
This all just gets passed down to the next generation until someone corrects the problem. I love my family but none of them know anything when it comes to nutrition which is why I ended up at almost 300lbs before I decided to break the cycle.
Liable? Yes.
At fault? Not necessarily.

Parents are to blame during the early years, but once we have control of our lives, its ours! TAG! NO blame backs!

Parents are definitely to blame. All they talk about is "Look how skinny you are" or your grandma asking you what is your favorite dinner so she can make it.
Food has been made equal with a reward and parents always want to reward their children.

Yeah and I believe in schools their diets are crap too. I have seen what they feed students and children and its damn near as low as dog food. I really wish that people would realize its not ok to let kids eat whatever they want, because they dont deserve that. It not only leads to obesity, but in school kids get picked on and it lowers their self-esteem and therefore they dont care what they look like and so its an ongoing cycle.
There are seveal people i would rep in here, but my reps not high enough to count towards anything right now till i get over ten. A few positive reps would be nice But overall. I know we are here to help eachother and educate ourselves to leading a better lifestyle. I am very proud of the majority of people on here putting forth the effort to change. Great job everyone.

My parents only knew what their parents taught them, which wasn't much.
Talk to any lay person about nutrition and they know SFA, to some dieting just means not eating a second desert.
I knew one guy, who stabbed a vegetable with his fork, said "you know what all that health food bull**** is about, what the hell is *this* supposed to be?"
It was a piece of broccoli.
My parents owned a fast food cornerstore business, we ate fish and chips and pizza or burgers atleast five meals a week, there was a constant supply of coke in the fridge, and chocolate bars were readily available.
By the time I got out of town and on my own I had size 42 pants, and weighed 112 kilo's.
My parents didn't know any better though, nutrition wasn't exactly taught well in school.
As an adult, in my circles, I have obese and overweight people everywhere telling me that I'm dieting dangerously and I'll plateau and my goals are rediculus.
All I want to do is ignore them while jubbling their bellies around making homer simpson noises.
