Competing in June 2010 and need to lose 40+ lbs... enough time? Advice please :)

Hello. I had a quick question for anyone who has trained someone for a figure competition or has competed in one themselves. I am looking to compete in my first competition in June 2010. I have about 45 pounds that I would like to lose prior to the competition and obviously get toned up (I do not currently look like my avi --- this was me a few months ago but due some emotional things going on in my life I slipped back to my old ways).

I am planning on starting my training the 1st of September, which will allow me 40 weeks to the competition. My question is, is this enough time to loose the weight and get in good enough shape to compete? I work from home and will have the time and ability to workout a lot and have a clean diet... I'm just worried if that is too much weight to loose in that amount of time.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks and wish me luck

I think 40lbs in about a year is realistic, as long as you're REALLY making an effort. If the goal of a competition is what keeps you motivated then I think it's a good goal, just make sure you focus on lifting and not just weight lose or you won't have much underneath it all to show off!

Good luck!

I am in a similar position as you. I actually wanted to compete this last year and couldn't buckle down enough. I would love it if you would keep me posted on your progress and what's working for you.

whats the hurry to compete? why not get yourself in shape first, then all you have to do is pick a show, and take 12 weeks to fine tune your physique.... trying to loose 40lbs, and fine tune your physique is a bad recipe for a first show

I lost 55 lbs in a year- slowly and safely without going to extremes in terms of time spent doing it... and that was without a fitness or nutrition plan... I am sure 40 lbs is a do-able goal... but I don't know how that will measure up on stage next to women who have been at a high level of training for a long time. It sure is a wonderful sort of target for your motivation and goals though!! It sounds fantastic!

Why wait till September? What's wrong with today?
