In that case, I'd recommend you read the book. Everyone will have a different idea on what assistance to do.

Why is anyone starting 5/3/1 without having bought and read the book first??
Way too many posts of questions about 5/3/1 in this section. If people would read the book and not trying to learn it from other guys training logs and someones writeup on it, they wouldn't have so many questions.
Its a very good book, quick, interesting read and only $19. Anyone can afford that. If you can't ,cut back on one of your supplements and buy it. The book will help you more than the supplement anyway.

x2, it seems everyone is trying to glean the information from threads/training logs online and refusing to pay for it.
It's one fo the drawbacks of something becoming this popular this fast.

I'm really liking 5/3/1. I'm doing it with strongman events as my accessory work.

THIS.
Or at least read the Q&A over at Elite before you make a thread. Jim has answered nearly every question possible over there.

Well thats all well and good. But some of us dont have the money. After all my bills I have $3.95 in my bank. So why dosnt someone just pony up and give us guys who dont have the money an idea of what else we can do. This shouldnt be like pulling teeth. Sheesh.

First off, I never believe someone doesn't have $19. If you don't cut out something somewhere else.
Second, to fully get everything the program offers, you need to read the book. You can't just take a review or what someone tells you and do it. And I don't know why anyone would want this.
People that don't want to buy the book is looking for the easy way. Get the book, read it, do the program, it'll work and you'll like it and you won't have to come on here asking questions about it.
If all else falls, post this question to Wendler over at Elite and see what he tells you.

I dig. Ill just have to wait till next payday to see if i can afford it after my bills come through. Hope. Hope. Im not trying to sound cheap or anything. I just took a $7 an hour pay cut and lost 8 hours from my schedule. So im having to re-arange my finances. IF things get much worse. The only weights ill be lifting will be my own body weight. Cuz I wont be able to afford my Gym membership.

If you're truly that strapped for cash, DO NOT BUT THAT BOOK
People act like Wendler split the ****ing atom, but the program is really not that complicated. There's plenty of information on this forum, and there are plenty of other programs where all of the info is free

it's easy for us to tell you to read the book.. it'd be akin to you showing up for History class without doing your required reading and then proceeding to ask questions that are all answered in the reading...
nothing against ya, it's just that answer to almost everyone's questions are in the book.. if you read the book, do the work, then still have questions, that's another thing..

Agreed. I bought the book, not only for the program, but it gives basic, good advice on the 4 main lifts of the program, plus an good overview of assistance exercises, a great section based on Wendler's ideals called North of Vag, and just general FAQ section that would clear up a lot fo questions not just for the program, but for lifting in general
for 20 bucks, ****, id gladly spend it again.

Quoted for truth!
Just the Moving North of Vag chapter alone is inspirational enough to justify the purchase IMO

Btw...noone here is a salesman, just tired of the guys trying to take the cheap route and constantly asking questions about a routine that if they are truly interested in would spend the money and the time to buy the book and sit and read it and get a full understanding of the program. Then problem solved. Stop being lazy.
And another reason why I say buy it, cause I think its ****ed up for people to post the program that someone took alot of time to research and put out the book for people. I've seen guys post links to download it too. How would you like it if you wrote a book and everyone was trying to get it for free. Lets face it, Wendler is not gonna make a fortune off the book and get mega rich, why its an e-book...its the principle.

exactly. I posted nearly the exact same thing in this thread:
http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showth...hp?t=118218091
If the lack of effort put forth in researching this program, spending the money and buying it, or just looking at the q&a for the answers is any indication of the person asking it, they won't get any benefit from a program like this. This program is designed for someone willing to take time and patience for it to payoff, and people who want the answer right now without doing any leg work (even if they don't want to buy it) from looking at the free q&a over at elite, are the ones who will do the program for one cycle and then bitch that it doesn't work.

The book is well worth it, I did a month or two of it in the Spring and am now doing a different version of it now as far ass assistance lifts go. I was doing 3-4 accessory lifts using 2-4 sets but I just got a new job and am still getting used to the hours so I shifted to the 3 exercise high volume workout accessory method that's listed in the book.
My basic week looks like this:
Sunday- bench - warm ups then the 5/3/1 rep scheme depending on the week
DB floor press- 5x15
DB row- 5x8-12
Monday- Squat- " "
Db lunge- 5x10-15
Romanian DL- 5x8-12
ab work 5 sets
Wed- Military press or Jerk- " "
Weighted dips- 5x10-15
Weighted pullups (varying grips)- 5x5-15
Thurs- Deadlift - " "
weighted extensions- 5x10-15
Single leg box squat (I use adjustable cardio steps and make it lower) 5x8-12
ab work 5 sets
The first time I saw this setup I didn't like it because I generally pick a few more movements rather then volume but this has been kicking my ass pretty well. It seems like a lot less but it ends up only being about 15-20 mins shorter then my westside based workouts would be (depending on use of gear or not)
