Looking for a personal trainer for GF
I know they are pretty expensive and most people can not afford to have one everytime they workout. So the question is, is it still okay to have a personal trainer 1 time a week? She works out five times a week but just get a trainer for 1 session a week. We both have good jobs but there is no way i would let her spend $75 or so a pop each day on one. I am thinking of getting her like 10 sessions from x sport fitness and she can spread them out anyway she likes. Good idea or not?? thanks

Of course it's ok to see a trainer 1 time a week. Will once a week with a trainer benefit her? Who knows? Who knows how good or bad the trainer is? Did the trainer just get certified, or does the trainer have years of experience under his/her belt? What does her 5x a week workout consist of?
Sure you can buy her 10 sessions. As far as spreading them out, i don't know how the gym works that. She may have to use those 10 sessions within a certain period of time, so the trainer can be consistent, and try to sell her more sessions at a faster rate. Or, maybe she can spread them out over 10 weeks, 20 weeks etc..
Most trainers will train her just once a week.... that's fine with them. As long as they're getting paid for it.

Ask the trainer to write up her work-outs for the other days she's in the gym. Some people might have a problem w/ the extra work, but I don't mind doin it for my clients... And an experienced trainer shouldn't have a problem writing up a work-out for her in just about 10-15 mins anyways.

once a week
once a week is fine
just as long the trainer know what he/she is doing
just ask the trainer to give homework...
meaning write out a program of what to do when she is not training with them

It all depends.
If someone's got bad movement patterns,
ie can barely bodyweight squat w/o falling fwd or backward,
can't keep their back flat when bending over
dips their hips and sticks their neck out when doing push ups
I'd rather work WITH them the whole time so I can cue their form and progress them as I see fit.
Usually, if I teach them some movements and then put them through a workout on the first session and then schedule to see them a week later, they will either:
come on their own until then and do some machines and/or cardio
not workout or come to the gym until our next session
However, if the person is diligent, serious, meticulous, and most importantly already have form down, then it would be fine to see them at the beginning of the week and give them something in writing for them to do on their own.

Not a bad idea, but make sure the trainer works with her on each day of a different body part. The trainer should witness every different part of her routine. Research your potential trainer. There are some worthless trainers. Being "certified" doesn't mean they're good. Find someone whose been around and been successful.

a different body part per day? Wouldn't that depend on her goals? If she's trying to to drop body fat, wouldn't it be better to do full body workouts w/lots of compound movements?

I have a trainer once every three weeks... but I'm doing something quite specific. Paying $50 every three weeks for my trainer motivates me to actually get on and do the things I want to do because that's alot of money to me!

I would much rather work with them throughout their whole routine so you can get a better feel for what they're doing and help improve their form and everything so they can get the most out of their workouts. However if that isn't an option.. online training sounds like it might be the way to go. I've figured out this is a good alternative to those who can't afford someone by their side every workout, but you can still help them out for a small fee. You can buy a month package or so and get all the workouts as you go through.. and can go back and forth online for one set price to re-evaluate where she's at as well as monitoring the progress and answer any questions or concerns... may be something for her to check into =)

Once a week is fine. The trainer can set them up a routine for the times they are not with her. Some people tend to slack off a bit while they are by themselves but as long as she keeps her intensity up she will be fine.

This. Really isn't this our goal anyway? Giving them the tools to do it on their own?
