Finally my program update with my PT yesterday. He also did a weigh in and measurements. Put me on that nasty scale in my gym and get this....two weeks ago it said I was 20% BF and 135 lbs (I think) early in the morning. Yesterday it said I was 14% BF and 135 lbs in the middle of the day. Whaaa???? Well, you likely know how I feel about that machine. I don't put much faith in it. With those two measurements I'm putting my BF somewhere in the middle at around 17% which is what I got on my calipers. So There!
We rushed through revisions to two of my four routines so I did two days of routines in one session, but only two sets of everything. Tired or what, though! As I had done Chest the day before we worked on Legs and Back/Bi's/Core.
BACK/BI's/CORE:
- Lats pull-down 80 x 12, 90 x 12 (this will replace pull-ups - which I will miss, but maybe I'll get those muscles to do unassisted pullups like my BS.com hero "cwpullups" )
- Dead Lift (bent knees) - 50 x 12, 60 x 12
- Hammerstrength Machine - 90 x 12, 90 x 12 (this is a different machine from the one I used before, instead of pulling up I'm pulling down. Really feeling it hit the targeted muscles, I LOVE this one)
- Bicep Curls on Preacher Bench or Hammerstrength - 25 x 12, 25 x 12 (we used the hammerstrength this time instead - I like it better. This is to be supersetted with two sets of DB curls on bench for my weaker left bicep so that was 15 x 10, 15 x 9)
- Cable Curls with Straight Bar - 50 x 10, 50 x 10 (liking this one)
- Reverse Crunch 20 (one set only today)
- Back Extension 15 (one set only today)
- Hanging Leg Raise 20 (one set only, can do this as an alternate to captain's chair leg raises or a combo of both until I can hang on long enough to do 3 sets of 20 - the lifting wraps help alot on this one).
LEGS:
- Smith Squat 90 x 12, 90 x 12 (can start with 110 if I want, take it down for subsequent sets as needed)
- Leg Press ONE LEG only - 90 x 12 (only one set of this today, each leg)
- Stiff Leg Deadlift - 60 x 12, 60 x 12 (feeling this in ham a bit more than I'd like, might move up SLIGHTLY next time around)
- Lying Leg Curl 50 x 12 (ham was extra sore on this, so afraid it's going to go "snap!" - just did the one set today)
- Leg Extension - 70 x 12, 80 x 9 (feel the burn!!!!)
Standing and Seated Heal Raises for Calves - didn't get to this as we ran out of time but its the same old same old and up the weight as I can manage.
Staggered out, I think yesterday was hotter than Weds and Weds was supposed to be our record high day. UGH. No cardio.

Shoulders / Tri's Day
Everything seemed harder today. Not sure why. I forgot to stretch yesterday after working out so maybe that's why.
- Military Press on Smith - 30 x 12, 20 x 12, 20 x 8, 20 x 7 (o.k. I goofed up again and put too much weight on for the first set, but not being one to back down on a challenge tooo much, I only took it down 10 lbs and did my remaining sets at 20 instead of the previous week's 15. It must have been time to move up on this anyway, I did pretty good, despite barely being able to rack it again on the last rep with 30 lbs)
-Lateral Raises - 4 sets of 10 x 12 (might take the weight up to 12 next time, I think 15's would be too much).
- Front Raises - 3 sets of 10 x 12 (second set was raises all the way over the head, whereas sets 1 and 3 were to shoulder height only, still pain in shoulder to raise all the way. Might try 12's on this next time as well, but I only managed 3 sets of this instead of 4).
- Close Grip DB Press - 15 x 12, 20 x 8, 20 x 6, 15 x 12 (well we were up from 12.5 lb last week and felt strong enough to try the 20's for a few sets, although not many reps, before having to back down to 15's for the last set, give self pat on back anyway for trying)
-Tricep Dips to failure 30 (disappointing, last week I was at 35, and I try to improve on that every week, not today though, give self kick in pants for being wimpy)
- One Arm Pulldown on cable/rope - 4 sets of 10 x 12. Not sure what happened here. I used a different machine. Do you ever find that some machines feel different, maybe ones in Kg and not Lbs? Anyway last week was doing these at 20 lbs, this week at 10????? Maybe I did all the tri's work before and had nothing left for it, not sure what happened. RRRR)
- Oblique Crunch with Leg Raise - 15 x 3 sets (thanks to my PT Martin for coming along and helping me with the form on this, I was struggling only to find I was doing something wrong. The shoulder closest to the floor should have the arm extended out to the side. Drrrrr!). He must be wondering how many other exercises I am doing wrong without him there beside me every time...now I'm wondering.
Felt tired but did my 20 min HIIT on the stationery bike anyway. Yay! I got through it, the mind's will over the body's...I just have to tell that to myself some days to get through.
I am really proud of Martin he has been working hard on a new book and now has it available online and just to give him a bit of kudo's cuz I think he is so fantastic, I hope you won't mind if I include the link to his website regarding the book which is also available in e-book form.
http://www.expressfatloss.com/
All the best Martin and thanks for everything you do!
Well, this sticky chick needs to hit the shower. Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Back / Bi's Day in the new routine!
I think doing the same routine over and over again for 5 weeks not only gets your body into a rut and you don't progress as well, but I was starting to get bored. Having a few new things to try makes it fun again. Me likes!
- Reverse Crunch (sloooowly) 3 x 20
- Leg Raise Hanging /Captain's Chair 3 x 20 (I tried to do hanging, but my shoulder was hurting from shoulder day, had to switch to captain's chair)
- Back Extension 3 x 15
- Deadlift 4 sets of 60 x 12 (think I can go up on this next time)
- Bent Over Row 60 x 10, 60 x 10, 60 x 7, 50 x 10 (up from 50# for the first three sets from last week)
- Lat Pull Down 90 x 10, 90 x 8, 80 x 12, 80 x 12 (this is one of my faves, started heavier on this, really feel the back working!)
- Cable Curl - 50 x 10, 50 x 10, 50 x 9, 50 x 8 (like this one)
- Hammerstrength Curl - 35 x 12, 35 x 10, 35 x 7, 25 x 12 (last time started at 25, the switch to 35 seemed easy at first, a good challenge) finished with DB curls for left arm 15 x 8 and 15 x 6 (with assist for 4 more reps).
- Hammerstrength Pull - 90 x 12, 90 x 12, 110 x 8, 110 x 8 (this is my new favorite toy, pulling high to low, feels good on the back, really working it. Next time I'll start with the 110 see where I can take it).
And......life gets in the way, no time for cardio today, some stretching and off to do family stuff.
For all you Canadians out there, enjoy your holiday today.

Thanks for the encouragement. Yes, definately liking some of the new routines. I have legs day today, not looking forward to it today so much, my legs seem to be sore and achy today, maybe some pre-workout stretching will help.
Does anyone have any suggestions for sore joints? I am finding that my elbows ache for a couple of days after I've been doing heavier work like deadlifts and bent over rows.

Shock of all shocks, I got my husband to go on a walk with me yesterday. There's a conservation forest near us with a lake that people go fishing in and so we walked into the forest to the lake and around it. He said he enjoyed it and would do that more often. There's hope!
Finally cooled off here a bit and I have more energy, not to mention I lost some weight. I think the heat makes me hold water. I certainly drank a ton of it!

Yesterday was "Legs Day". Does anyone love legs day, none that I've met so far.
When I went to the Bodybuilding show there were lots of supp companies giving out samples of their products, so I scooped up a few to try. The first one I tried was SuperPump, they gave me two packets and it said I was supposed to take the two packets with 8 oz of water. I just tried one with 4 oz of water, not so pumped so maybe I didn't get the full effects of this. I really didn't like the taste, super strong berry-something which seemed to be masking a melted plastic aftertaste. Just the fact that there was something buried in there that wasn't so great for you put me off of it. Then I tried one yesterday that was a lemonade flavoured one, Extreme Crazy Juice or some goofy name. Tasted o.k., kind of like the kool-aid version of lemonade. Not sure I got a great pump out of it, but I did kick thing up hard at the gym for legs day. Was it the supp or was it me? Not sure.
Anyway, the comp I'm entering is all drug free. I don't think these supps would be considered drugs or even have anything on the list of banned substances, but I think I'll just stick with my vitamins and omega-3's.
Legs Day:
- One-legged Leg Press - 4 sets of 90 x 12 (could possibly do more weight on this)
- Smith Squat - 110 x 10, 110 x 10, 90 x 12, 90 x 12 (YES!)
- Leg Extensions - 80 x 12, 80 x 10, 80 x 10, 80 x 8 (started with 80 and stuck with it!)
- Lying Leg Curls - 50 x 12, 60 x 8, 60 x 7, 50 x 10 (well I'm making some progress on the weight here)
- Stiff Leg Deadlift - 60 x 12, 70 x 12, 70 x 12, 70 x 12 (going up to 70 was hard, but I did full sets so I think maybe I can add a bit next time - Man, my a$$ is sore!)
- Standing Heel Raise - 165 x 20, 15, 12, 10 (wow, got through this with no problems, up the weight again next time, me thinks)
- Seated Heel Raise - 100 x 20, 15, 12, 10 (hard for that first 20 reps, cramping, but the rest was good, maybe up the weight next time)
My butt feels like a couple of granite rocks right now, and sore. Anyway I can ignore that today, its chest day.
Had to skip the cardio, ran out of time. Life seems to be getting in the way of the cardio lately. Have to make an extra effort to get that in this week.
Later gang!

She stood out on the stage quite well too because of her height. I knew it was her. Hope I can get to that level of physique one day. Don't think I'll be there for my first comp in March, but even close I'd be thrilled out of my mind! Is your wife in Fitness or Figure? You definitely have a right to be proud of her and brag, ya know!
I think I was following along with Jayme's competition prep forum here for awhile, I'll have to check.
Are the Canadian Nationals are being held in New Westminster as well? I think I read that they were. Will you and your wife be attending them? I'd love to meet up with you. Nice to meet other people who genuinely understand this and the overall dedication and mindset. Yes, soooo many really good physiques that I saw at this show, men and women. It really must be difficult to judge.

We had some friends who went up to Osoyoos, and said it was in the 40's. Woah! I'm sure
Shuswap would have been pretty much the same. I'd just spend the whole day sitting in the lake or floating down the stream in an inner tube. I really love the hot weather though, bring it on! Just hard to sleep at night sometimes (not many people have air-conditioning here for the 2 weeks of high heat we get each year).
Yes wandering around the lake with hubby was a nice outing. We used to take all the kids with us when they were smaller, now they want to hang with their friends, not mom and dad. Saw a few women running the paths there too, maybe I should try to do that instead of being such a gym rat all the time.

Oh well, good, now I've found someone who actually loves legs day! I don't really mind it that much. In fact its fun because this is when you can really move some heavy weights, I love challenging myself on that. However, it is a hard session and getting myself into the gym to do it takes some personal shoving. Once I'm there, its time to do some serious work and its all good.
On SuperPump, I don't think its a terrible product, tons of people on this site use it and really have great things to say about it. I don't think I got the full effects of it because I took a half dose and the taste put me off a bit, at least the one flavour I got to sample. Might see if I can get another sample to try and give it a fair test. Just not sure if that kind of thing is for me, same with the Extreme Whatchamacallit I tried, was the extra weight load I took on for legs day because of the product or was it just a good day for me, I wonder.
What flavour do you have, maybe the one I had was not the best?
Flavour has alot to do with whether I like something or not. If it turns me off, I will be practically gagging when I have to take it next time around. Same with protein shakes. I've had to do trial and error on those quite a bit. One cheaper brand gave me horrible stomach aches, another one was so sickly sweet I couldn't drink the whole shake. I have found though recently with that one that if I mix it with apple juice instead of water its better, good, cuz I couldn't return the product, now I'm back into it cuz I ran out of my favorite brand.

Chest Day
Haven't had a chance to meet up with my PT to have this program and shoulders program revised, so same old routine here. Seemed to be sore all over today, esp my left shoulder
- Incline Chest Press / Hammersmith - 60# x 12, x 12, x 12 x 10 (down from 65 last week but I got 3 full sets in and one a little shy of 12)
- Flat DB Chest Press - 30# x 12, 30 x 12, 35 x 8, 35# x 10 (Who are those little angels in the gym that swoop in and help you with the weight that's too heavy to start? That 35 pounder had me struggling to get it up to start position. Thanks anonymous spotter - who probably heard me cursing louder than I should have because I was plugged into an iPod on high volume headbanger music for extra motivation! Darn left shoulder!!!!)
- Frank Press - 4 sets of 20# x 12 and 1 set of 25# x 12 (I know the muscle is working, but I just don't feel alot on this one, thought I'd see if 25 lb did it for me....not so much).
- Crunches - PT has me off the decline on this. 2 sets of 25 laying on floor with feet on ball, 1 set of 17 on decline bench cuz I just gotta keep trying to win this one. Darn it!
- Weighted V-Ups - 3 sets of 20# x 25 (like this one alot, but with the 20# DB I find my arms get tired before my abs do, maybe take the weight down to 15 again and do more v-ups, I'm not sure).
20 min HIIT on the Elliptical for a change of equip, was fun, will do that again, getting bored of the bike. Ellipticals hit those darn hams though and it can be hard on my stupid injury. Not feeling too bad today though, it hurt worse before I started my workout yesterday. ALL'S WELL THAT ENDS WELL!
Tomorrow is Friday kids! Yay!

I'm all about taste too...I wont take something if I dont enjoy it. As far as SP250 goes I like Tropical punch, fruit punch, raspberry lemonade and blue raspberry. My faves are the tropical punch and raspberry lemonade

Yes wandering around the lake with hubby was a nice outing. We used to take all the kids with us when they were smaller, now they want to hang with their friends, not mom and dad. Saw a few women running the paths there too, maybe I should try to do that instead of being such a gym rat all the time.

Oh trust me as often as I can get into the lake I am there... same as the rivers, lol well it would be better than Cardio in the gym thats for sure

Cardio is tough in hot weather, bit I still do it, begrudgingly. I always like to think of Fall, Winter as the time of year to work hard on your fitness and then emerge like a butterfly out of its cocoon in the Spring, TA DAA!
I just noticed your signature quotes. The one that says "Be the change you want to see in the world" is from Mahatma Ghandi.

More new routines. Last week I had Legs and Back routines revised. Today I did PT session and we did some Chest and Shoulders/Tri's routines.
We started with Chest today but heading into Shoulders/Tri's was hard because you use alot of shoulder/tri work in your chest exercise. Some I am sure I am stronger on but by the time we got to them I was pretty tired out. Still I tried really hard to push everything to the edge of my ability.
Chest/Shoulders/Tris - we varied what we worked on depending on the area of the gym we were in - two sets of everything to fit into time frame , one set of all core work:
- Military Press on Smith - 20# x 12, 25# x 10 (to use DB next time to work weaker left shoulder)
- Military DB Press (just to practice DB's for shoulders) - 25# x 7, 20# x 10
- Flat Barbell Chest Press (O.k., its a Bench Press) - 20# x 12, 40# x 8 (not including the 45# weight of the barbell, my PT said that weight was pretty impressive. If he's happy, so am I!)
- Chest Pull Over - lay upper back on bench, keep bum low, raise DB over head and back - 15# x 12, 20# x 12
- Decline Crunch - 1 set of 25 only today (yes, we're back to that darn decline, except I am only supposed to curl up to the point where my upper back is off the bench, no back pain, YAY!)
-Toe Touches with DB - Legs straight up, crunch up with 20 lb weight in hands, slight variation from the V-ups. 2 sets of 20# x 20
- Incline Chest Press with DB - 35# x 9, 35# x 11
- Lateral DB Raise - 12# x 12, 10# x 12 (starting to run out of steam on shoulders here I think I usually can do 15's on this)
- Front DB Raise - 10# x 12 (no more torturing the shoulders, only one set here, I can do more weight on this one normally)
- Rear Deltoid Raise (laying on bench with DB today, but can use Matrix Machine) 5# x 15 (can probably use more weight on this next time, probably 8's)
- DB Shrug - 25# x 15 (to use 22's or 30's next time)
- Chest Fly Machine - 70# x 12, 70# x 12
- Tricep pushdown with V-Bar - 60# x 12, 70# x 12 (like this one)
- Tricep dips, on assist machine, (can do full body weight on bars next time) 50# x 15, 40# x 15 (when I last did this exercise unassisted on the bars I did 15, but tri's were pretty tired by this point today so we used the assist. This one has been changed from dips on bench with feet on floor. The bar dips are one of my favorites - ooooh "bar dips" sounds like chocolate dipped ice cream bars....dreaming now....).
- Tricep one-arm Rope Pushdowns - 15# x 12, 15# x 12
20 minute HIIT on elipti-thing, stretch and stagger out of gym with protein shake in hand. I hurt everywhere!
I love Martin, my PT, he is always so encouraging and positive. He tells me little things like he can see alot of def in my shoulders now when I am lifting and that they are going to look terrific when I'm cut. Not to worry about the ab flab, I'll be amazed at how it comes off and be able see all the hard work I've been doing when it shows itself as I cut. Talks to me about posing and practicing and we'll get into that in about 4 months to give lots of time for practice and then really hit the posing hard in the last couple of months. He and I are going to work out together in about 2 weeks. That will be so much fun! He commented that he notices I am really pushing it and challenging the muscles and squeezing out those extra reps. So I am encouraged that I am doing things right and will eventually have some muscle to show come comp time. Also suggested an amp drink for pre-workout. You know, the ones I mentioned previously that give you extra pump before your workouts. O.k., if he's on board with it, then I'll give it a try. Says he's got some samples of one he uses that I can try. If I end up buying some from the supp store (no, he doesn't rep the stuff) and I don't like it he'll buy it off me.
Happy work out today, feeling positive, encouraged, did the whole thang including cardio, stretching, sore now, probably worse tomorrow, but its all soooo great. Loving the journey!
Once again its the weekend, hope everyone has a happy one! Eat right, train hard, come out a star!

We have A/C too, in SOME areas, not by that humid pool with the glass dome roof though. Some areas are better than others for the A/C that's for sure.

Mmmmmm....O.k. must stop thinking about those tasty things!
I did try a protein bar at the BB show that was kind of like a cross between a Mars bar and a granola bar. Chocolate and gooey and crunchy all at the same time. It was delish, alot of cals though and slightly higher protein than carbs, but the carbs were way more than I'd normally like to take in for a snack or even a meal unless I consider it a cheat. Dang! all that tastiness and its not gonna be on my menu, typical! If I'm gonna cheat its going to be something I really want, like my current fantasy....chocolate dipped ice cream bars......(flashback music and wavey mental picture coming in....). Mmmmmmm.
Oh I think I forgot to post in my w/o post above that I also did oblique exercises. Whatever! (Wow, snap back to reality from ice cream fantasy or what?!)

That's fantastic! You're getting down to crunch time now, have you started your cutting phase yet? Do you have a forum here where I can follow along?
Best of luck to you, and keep focused on your goal, you'll be awesome!

My PT told me that the 2009 CBBF Nationals is being held here on August 22nd at the Centennial Theatre in North Vancouver, BC. Is anyone going to the show or competing in it?

Thanks Not "officially" cutting quite yet, but coming up soon! I don't have a forum journal but think I'll probably start using the BodySpace blog, if for no other reason than I'll need someplace to vent and I think my friends are probably starting to get sick of me talking about fitness/lifting/contest prep all the time, haha

Yeah, my husband patronizes me alot when I tell him all about my weight training, etc. I can tell he's zoning out. Def start a blog here, I'll support you. I've never done a comp myself, but I can definately understand where you're coming from. Are you doing posing practices now, are you doing a routine in the show as well?
