Bloating?
OK, SO I just want to know why bloating happens, why it goes away, how to get it to go away... etc... maybe if someone could help me with a break down of it... and I would love to hear how you ladies deal with it! Thanks!

Whenever I get bloated from eating I drink Eater's Digest Tea. Seems to help my stomach-when it gets upset from time to time.

Yea, today- since it's soooo hot, I can just feel the bloating and it's miserable and I would love something to help with it!

Bloating is a pretty broad category see: too much fiber, water, salt
Not enough fiber, water, salt
Salt imbalances in the body
hormonal imbalances in the body (ahem being a woman )
etc.

Everytime you eat something mainly carbs (so bread....but try to lay of too much bread anyway, fruits, crackers etc.) trying eating a protein along with it. So, if you want a bit of bread, spread some peanut butter on it or have a bit of tuna - could be absolutely anything. Even if it's just a small apple, try and fit in some protein like a spoonful of cottage cheese. Since I've been doing this I barely ever bloat. Even at "that time of the month" it still seems to work.

I?ve noticed that since I?ve cleaned up my diet I bloat really easily. It usually happens when I drink water after meals, and also when I have grainy carbs. It was suggested to me that I try eating slowing ? really chewing each mouthful before I swallow. Now when I remember to do this, it does help. Anyway I hope my bloating episodes will pass once my digestive system adjusts to the new regime.

Chicken, one of the easiest low proteins, makes me gassy and bloated. I switch to fish on days that I'm going to be around people who aren't just my family members. (and on bikini days!)

All you ladies that experience bloating should try taking digestive enzymes with meals and also taking probiotics! It really does help.

Oh man I feel like i'm an expert in this area. For as long as I can remember I've had problems with bloating. I had tried EVERYTHING to make it better... enzymes (did help a little but didn't completely cure me), probiatics (again helped a little), drinking extra water, cutting salt, tummy teas... everything. Finally a few months ago I cut wheat out of my diet and VIOLA!!! All better! Cutting wheat is kind of a drastic step, however after trying everything else and having no success the decision to take out the wheat (gluten) was a no-brainer. I feel better then I've ever felt now and don't miss the wheat at all. Now I just need to cut out the gum and I'll be 100%.

I agree w/the probiotics!!! Definitely made a difference. I started using Align (my mom gave me a 28 day pack) but those are pretty pricey. Just bought some Natrol BioBeads from this website and they are working great!

I like them and can DEF tell a difference! I use them three times a day. I take one with my breakfast, lunch (usually third meal) and last meal. They have helped a ton and were rec'd to me by these boards.

I had some probiotics one night after I was feeling rather bloated after eating, and bam... it helped fast! I don't know if it was psychological or it actually helped, but it worked!
I got some yummy strawberry chewable ones too... so they aren't crappy to eat!

This is exactly me (except the gum!). I cut out all wheat and heavy grains and the bloating went away almost 100%. If for some reason (that time of the month, grains sneaking in my food) I bloat, I take Activated Charcoal...it ends the bloat, gas and tummy rumbles almost immediately.

For those of you who cut out wheat and heavy grains, what do you eat in place of it?

My body is insanely sensitive to grains and dairy both.. I retain water from both of them (even though I drink it like a mad woman) and they each make me look pregnant lol. I cut them out all together and I stopped having problems.. in place of them I eat tons of green veggies and fruits in moderation. The only grainy thing I can eat is oatmeal and thats my breakfast every morning. For lunch I'll have chicken and I'll cut up some cucumber and tomatoes and drizzle them with ACV, I have an apple as a snack every day plus a full grapefruit with breakfast.. I also eat broccoli, spinach, and asparagus. I feel perfectly fine without the grains, in fact, I feel my energy levels have gone up since I cut them out.. weird but true. Hope this helps!
Question: No matter how much water I drink I never feel satisfied. I know I have a few pounds of retention still on me.. will it go away once the water weight comes off? I never add salt to anything and I don't eat anything processed so I know it's not that.. any ideas?

I eat oatmeal for breakfast... which i hear can cause issues in some people but it doesn't bother me. I also do sweet potatoes, quinoa, rice, and millet. Many stores will have a wheat free section where you can purchase things that are wheat free. I also do tons of veggies and fruits (fruits in moderation right now as i'm cutting for comp). Before I was cutting I was buying these wheat free crackers... I believe they were made by Blue Diamond (the co. that does almonds and other nuts). They are freaking delicious! I had to stop buying them because I have no self control! I also make my own bars for those times when i'm on the run and can't sit down for a bowl of oatmeal. To make the bars mix 3 cups oatmeal, 1 peeled smashed sweet potato, 2-3 teaspoons baking powder, 5 eggwhites, cinnamon (or spice of choice.. can also use nutmeg and/or ginger), stevia (optional), protein powder (optional), salt (optional), nuts (optional). Bake around 325 until done. Pretty tasty!

Thanks! The bars sound really good. I find myself being bloated a lot. I have oatmeal for breakfast and the rest of the day it's protein and veggies. I do chew quite a bit of sugar-free gum which could be the cause. I started taking Super Thisilyn and that helps a little bit.

I would try cutting the gum. I would almost guarentee that that could be the cause of bloating. I know it makes me bloat.. However gum is pretty much the only sweet thing that i have in my diet right now so its staying. I'll cut it when i'm closer to the comp. You could also try cutting oatmeal and see what happens then... try cutting gum first though.

You're probably right about the gum causing the bloat, I just don't want to believe it lol because like you, it's the only sweet thing in my diet right now and I need something sweet during the day. I'll try cutting down on the amount I eat, maybe that will help =)

If I need to eat bread....I eat the evil white bread. Rice products; rice crackers, puffed rice, rice Chex, etc. Cream of Wheat in the morning is fine on my stomach, it's very easy to digest. Flour tortillas too. By cutting wheat products I've also ended up cutting carbs quite a bit too....it just goes with the territory and it's worth it to not have the bloat.

I've never had Cream of Wheat. What's it like? Is it like oatmeal at all? I'm on a very low carb diet but I do have oats in the morning.

LOL! I'm with you on the gum! I plan on keeping it in my diet until I'm about 2 weeks from comp. Then I will cut it completely. I'm dreading that day. Until then, I've decided to just deal with the little bit of bloat that it adds.

It's like baby food. Very mushy. Or creamy...depends how you look at it! I make mine with the recommended amount of water and when it's cooked (in the microwave) I add a splash of fat free half and half and 1 tablespoon of peanut butter. I love it, it's great before the gym...really keeps you full.

Maybe after the two weeks of cutting it out completely you won't want it anymore. I did pretty good today and only had a few pieces. I usually eat about a pack! It's ridiculous lol

LOL! I told myself I was going to NOT HAVE ANY today... and I've had 4 pieces already. Its totally a mental thing. I am sooo strict with my diet and workout program but for some reason feel like i need gum right now. I have 3 packs in my desk. I'm going to take them into my coworkers office and tell her to hide them. That should work.
