i currently work at at bodybuilding gym, but powerlifters are definitely taking over. we have a rubber platform with a ton of bumper plates, deadlift bars, mono lift squat stand, competition power bench. only thing that sucks is you can't use the chains or bands unless you're in the powerlifting team, but i'm sure once you got to their strength level they would let you work in with them.

I guess if they paid for it... but why don't you ask? I'm not that strong but I powerlift, those would benefit me greatly. Make friends with them.

Maybe do another sport instead. I dunno.

Well I'm friends with a few of the guys, but to be honest, my strength level is no where near enough where I feel i can benefit from using them. But yeah, the powerlifting guys bought most of the stuff, they keep it in a locked chest. so if i was to use it, i'd have to work in with them, and it would take forever stripping the weights down to a level i could use. i was thinking of getting some chains for myself though.

From your description earlier, it sounds like you have the body for the deadlift (long arms, legs). Yeah for a while I was too focused on lifting and not on actually training for my sport. I've since tried to get my head on right. But this kind of training has its uses in any sport i think.

I get the dirtiest looks at 24hr fitness when I'm doing cleans. I'm not even dropping the weight hard either. I guide it down as slowly as needed.
I won't even try doing snatch there. No way you can guide the bar down without tearing something in your shoulder.

I think powerlifting is much more fun than random pulling of cables and DB's, more rewarding at the same time ie Crossfit etc.
I do Oly training alot but as I can lift more, it's getting so much more difficult

Went to Coffee's again since I need a lot of help on my snatch form. He wanted to see my snatch form, but then eventually told me to do a split snatch, then just a power snatch to simply get the mechanics of snapping this up. He had me do triples with this. After that I did a few sets of front squats at about 6 reps each set for 5-6 sets. Two days ago he had me doing deep back squats so I was surprised that I had it in me to do this. After that was some chins/dips and glute ham raises to complete my workout. My snatch form even after this session has drastically improved.
This gym is pretty sick. I had a long conversation with this former wrestler / powerlifter about increasing your grip strength and he showed me several exercises and techniques on how to improve it, not just crushing strength but improving your flexors, pinching strength, and holding strength.
For some reason after leaving there I felt like stopping by at LA Fitness because I wanted to check one out near my work and somehow I ended up doing some deads and bench. For deads:
225x6
315x5
405x4
425x2
445x2
465x2
495x2
I attempted 515 but could barely get it off the ground. This was just a gauge to see where I was at and I haven't attempted 495 since last october. I noticed that I could fire and trigger my glutes a bit better than I used to.
As for bench:
135x6
185x6
225x6
245x3
265x3
I hardly do flat barbell bench but I just wanted to see where I was at.

Sounds like you had a really cool workout. I've only ever trained at they gym that's like a 5 minute walk from my house and its less than hardcore shall we say.
When I move I might look for a more lifting orientated gym. Sounds like you got some good help and advice too, it must be easier to get serious about your training in that kind of environment.

Farmer Walks is what I use and some other crap. He showed me a lot of stuff you can do with cables to work your forearms. You can also tear stuff too of course. Several articles on this online.
